good luck getting to play the Pens coached by idiots like Bylsma and Johnston and without 2/3 of their D corp and Malkin again.

You just won the cup. You should be enjoying it instead of wasting time taking potshots at other teams.

It is. So based on that lone playoff run Quick is a better goaltender than Lundqvist? Is that what you trying to say?

if you go back through the series of posts, the initial guy said quick's 'peak' was better, you said "lol how long was it" and i said long enough to win a cup. so yeah, his 2012 peak enabled him to do something lundqvist never has and probably never will, and likely could have if he dropped a better save percentage in one of those seasons the rangers were close.

He said Quick was better than Lundqvist because of the peak. Now if Quick had a 5-6 year period where he had a better peak than hands down he's a better goalie. 1 playoff run isn't going to cut it.

Malkin played in every series we've played against PITT.

But according to this logic:

HEY TAMPA FANS: GUESS WHAT!!! YOU BEATING US IN THE ECF? TOTALLY NULL AND VOID. SINCE WE WERE WITHOUT MCDONAGH AND ZUCCARELLO

BOSTON FANS: SINCE CROSBY AND MALKIN WERE INJURED IN 2011, THAT CUP YOU WON? NULL AND VOID.

(As if injuries aren't a part of the game and every team deals with them.)

my point is you just got spanked by the Pens on their way to a SC. why bother bragging about how you beat them two times while winning nothing?

You just won the cup. You should be enjoying it instead of wasting time taking potshots at other teams.

I am... I am also enjoying Rangers fans in this thread getting all excited and cocky by the most meaningless things, like signing a third round draft pick.

This isn't the same team anymore. There's not a 1 game changer on the roster and lacking true #1C is a huge issue.
I see the Rangers like the Bruins have been the last 2 years.

What does the Rangers have that the Pens, Tampa, Washington, Florida doesn't have?
Just make it easy for next year from the East.
And what do the Rangers have over those other teams? Did you just forget the Rangers are an O6 team playing in NYC? And then there's the fact the core of the team is still young that already has a winning culture.

You wouldn't be excited if your team just picked up a free asset?

Excited and cocky? 99% of this thread is people telling us we might as well skip this season (and the next 10) because we have no chance. I guess I gotta get me one of those time machines that the rest of this board has.

I think most people realize that the Rangers are currently not a cup contender. I wouldn't really say that they are on the decline, they have a good young forward core. However their main problem would be defense, and that would be tricky to adress until four or five years, unless they want to buy out Girardi or Staal or give up from their forward core. So for five years I'd say the Rangers will be an above average team. However in maybe five years, they can go all out since their forward core will be in their prime, and they have offloaded Girardi and Staal. They could be a huge threat. The only question then would probably be goaltending.

I'm just surprised that Vesey didn't join a contender immediately. I guess Hayes and the city itself were very large factors.

Edit: Oh, and you guys should seriously fire Vigneault.

Tbh, I was reading your forum during the playoffs. Your own fanbase was thinking they should skip the season. Now you just signed this guy and it seems you believe this will turn your season around...

They only need to find a taker for Staal. Alot would need to happen for Girardi to avoid a buyout next summer.

We should be excited. We added a young talent to our organization without sacrificing any assets. I haven't seen many Ranger fans being cocky. However, I have seen fans of other teams being salty because he didn't pick their team. If acquiring this third round pick is so meaningless, why do they care so much? Why were so many teams, including yours, interested in signing him?

Signing Vesey will potentially allow us to trade Nash/Zucc/someone else for a fix to our defense. That will have the biggest impact on improving over last season.

Quick has reached a level and a peak Henrik never has and probably never will at 34.
Yes. As evidenced by their oddly similar best seasons ever where Quick posted a 1.95 GAA with a .928 and Lundqvists best with a 1.97 and a .929.

Or their identical 2.27 GAA since 08-09 when Quick really broke into the league.

Whats this? Quicks sv% of .917 is a full 5 points lower than Lundqvists .922 (again starting in 08-09). Even if you go back to Ludqvists rookie year, he is still at a .921 (well .9207).

This evidence clearly shows that Quick is a superior at... nothing and they are pretty even with a slight edge to Lundqvist in sv%.

With Vesey signing and really solidifying our forward group, if we can find a way to move out Girardi we are in REALLY good shape.

Yeah and I read your forum after Game 2 and you guys wanted to trade Malkin.

And on the main boards you guys conceded the series when Zatkoff took the ice for Game 1. And when we scored that first goal in Game 5.

The Rangers had a great offseason and are a different team now. We are younger. And faster. Which were two big glaring problems that became even more glaring in the playoffs.

Plus I'm positive this long offseason will do good for all of our players. So much hockey played since 2012. It was much needed.

You don't want to have alot of retained salary or buyout cap hits if you want to be a serious contender though. You guys should just be praying that Girardi and Staal can turn it around. A new coach would help.

Think about the coaching staff, that alone is enough not to sign in Brooklyn.

For his second contract he would have to battle Snow. IIRC that was a big factor in his decision making.

It will take years for NYI to erase the bad reputation they have, but Snow is still there.

It probably had more to due with playing for the New York Rangers more than anything else. Just like some players sign with the Yankees because it's the Yankees.

Snow is pretty good giving out contracts to players he feels can contribute on this hockey team. He let Amac, Streit, PAP, Nabby, Okposo, and Nielsen go. Those are the main guys I remember.

Okposo was not given an awful contract, but he clearly wasn't a complete player who brings his A game every night so Snow let him go. Nielsen was given an insanely long contract for a player his age. He is a very good player, but he also wanted a change of scenery.

I guess Ladd, PAP, Boychuk, Leddy, Tavares didn't think much about the coaching staff eh? Pretty good players that signed here, and with the exception of PAP signed here long term.

I see your point but the ship may have sailed on Girardi. Lots of miles on those legs and the way he plays does not go hand in hand with longevity.

If Rangers can fix the blue line in a hurry (1-2 years) they have a potential to be really good. If they don't then they'll be stuck in no mans land for a while.

Or we talk him into retiring and give him a spot in the coaching staff or something.

It might be best for him to be honest.

He's got a family to think about. Doesn't he want to play catch with poor little Landon when he's 40? :sarcasm:

Well this turned into a pissing match....

By this logic, no one should ever brag about a team win unless they win the stanley cup.

Sounds extremely reasonable. I assume you make sure none of your own teams fans mention anything about winning a game ever unless its the SCF
