Center depth isn't the issue. Stephan isn't a high end #1C. Hard to win a Cup without one. Not easily acquired aside from the draft.
Stepan/ Zibanejad / Hayes vs.
Crosby / Malkin / Bonino
McDavid/ Draisaitl/RNH
Eichel/Reinhart/O'Reilly
Unless they play like Krejci and Bergeron, those are good match ups for the Rangers in a few years.
Sabres fans are all too aware. We went from Drury, Briere, Roy, Connolly to just Roy and Connolly. Never able to win the match ups. Lack of a high end 1C and center depth is the reason the Sabres chose to tank.

Girardi will most definitely be bought out next summer, unless some crazy rebound happens and he starts playing like a Norris candidate again (won't happen). Some team run by idiots that appreciate character over skill will probably trade for Staal (again not likely but there's a decent chance, despite what anyone says)
And lastly I'm not sure what you're getting at with the Rangers not being a deep center team. They have some of the best center depth in the league.
Stepan, Zibanejad, Hayes, Miller, Lindberg, Jooris is a deep centered team.
The Rangers have issues, and I agree that youth isn't the end all be all, but I firm6ly believe the team will be back as a serious cup contender in two seasons or less
Long enough to win two cups
In other words we are screwed because we've been a playoff team since the lockout and haven't been able to draft in the top 5?
I guess it's great to suck.
Seems like the worst possible place for him to go.. a team going downhill, with putrid contracts.. NYI, Chicago, and Pittsburgh all would have made more sense

Can you disagree?
Would be great to hear someone even once really answer to those concerns.
Never wrote that - that's been you're counter argument to every Rangers' critique.
Rangers are a good team with good youth, a true #1D (an essential building block for Cup winners), and an elite goalie.
Rangers do not have a high end #1 center. Top line centers of post-lockout Cup winners: Staal, Getzlaf, Datsyuk, Crosby, Toews, Krejci, Kopitar, Toews, Kopitar, Toews, Crosby.
Not impossible. But Stepan and Zib need to play like Krejci and Bergeron in 2011. Even then, the Bruins Only cruised in one series. 3 seven game series.
Lol @ Islanders being a team going "uphill"
Yes he's the sole reason they won.
2 of those deep high end center combos may not even qualify to compete for the cup
You mean we need Lundqvist to play like Tim Thomas?
They can be. They've got 3-4 good forward prospects in the pipeline.
He is best buddies with Hayes, and NY is NY. He'll regret it in 2 years, but for now him and Hayes can cruise the Big Apple.
We've beaten Pittsburgh in the playoffs in 2 of the 3 past seasons.
His 2012 performance is better than anything lundqvist has ever done, so yes his peak where his .946 sv pct led to a cup is something lundqvist hasnt reached. Its not like lundqvist also had a .946 year and his team let him down, he has never been at that level in a cup run.
I'll believe it when I see it. They've had top 10 picks for years and have accomplished very little so far.
Lol people talking about this on here like it's the sun rising and setting.Cup Contender?
Not reality. The Rangers are a team in the down side of their cycle. They won't be relevant for 5 years minimum.
This isn't the same team anymore. There's not a 1 game changer on the roster and lacking true #1C is a huge issue.
I see the Rangers like the Bruins have been the last 2 years.
What does the Rangers have that the Pens, Tampa, Washington, Florida doesn't have?
Just make it easy for next year from the East.
You mean we need Lundqvist to play like Tim Thomas?
good luck getting to play the Pens coached by idiots like Bylsma and Johnston and without 2/3 of their D corp and Malkin again.
