Marchessault said something interesting during the second intermission interview with Gene Principe..

He talked about the Oilers playing man to man defense in their own zone.......Didn't memorize his exact words but he sounded confident that they could get to the net for goals against that type of Defense.......

Wouldn't they be better off playing a zone defense that keeps everything to the outside and let the goalie take care of the perimeter shots ?

I'm no guru and certainly no coach but man to man defense seems outdated to me.......
Good pickup - i picked up same..

Edmonton D zone below.. Vegas was often using a forward to drift around and pull players out of position which may be why there was so much chaos trying to defend.. pull players away from the net and then use speed to beat them back to the net.

Many Oilers fans thought LA was going to be their hardest matchup and thought Vegas was an automatic to the Semis....
Are you serious? I thought LA was considered one of those legit "barely good enough for playoffs" teams, while Vegas was one of West's top contenders?

One of the great things about nhl playoffs is that even as absurdly good as McDavid and Draisatl are, it still takes a complete team almost every time.

It is also amazing to think about the goalie situation LVK has had to deal with more than this year, and gets good enough goaltending to win.

I still believe Edmonton is closer than Toronto, somehow they just stay engaged and fight. Toronto sometimes looks like the pain isn’t worth it sometimes

Year #30 of Canada going without a stanley cup.

To put it into context Canada has won a World Series, NBA title and MLS title in that same time span despite only have at most a couple canadian reps in those leagues as opposed to the 6 to 8 the NHL has had.

for an even bigger mindf***; an American team won a Grey Cup since a Canadian team won the Stanley Cup.

Oh look at that, they're actually 5th in 5v5 goals scored. Who knew?
In the regular season, in the playoffs they have been brutal for a number of years. It’s only McJesus and Drai. Remember we the Jets swept them and Jets aren’t very good themselves.

That was more Hellebuyck being all world than anything else. Didn't that series have 3 OT games? The 5v5 narrative is overblown.

How do you figure? Skinner had an .890 SV% against LA and that was far and away his best series statistically. Skinner was pulled 4 freaking times total in these playoffs. What in the hell else do you look for as a sign to maybe start the other guy in a game?
I just think Campbell is ass. Mental game is as soft as they come. Skinner gives me more confidence even if he's not that much better.

Skinner bounced back twice this series with solid performances. So I don't blame Woodcroft for hoping he would bounce back yet again.
