Started years ago with McTavish but it worked back then. They also grabbed Kassian after crash and then Kane.I will agree they only care about winning not integrity as an organization.
They don't have the luxury of picking and choosing players.

I don't need to remind you that many players refuse to play here, it's basically a running joke in the league.

So we take what we can get. I don't fault management for that.

Are you serious? They got slaughtered 5on5 and Eichel's line owned the Oilers.
Yea I'm serious. My eye test at least. I don't what the advanced stats say.

I don't think anyone "owned" either team, but the ice was definitely tilted the Oilers way tonight. They just didn't have a blocker stop go ten feet in the air and have their goalie stare at it without putting their glove up. Way she goes. Oh well.

Marchessault said something interesting during the second intermission interview with Gene Principe..

He talked about the Oilers playing man to man defense in their own zone.......Didn't memorize his exact words but he sounded confident that they could get to the net for goals against that type of Defense.......

Wouldn't they be better off playing a zone defense that keeps everything to the outside and let the goalie take care of the perimeter shots ?

I'm no guru and certainly no coach but man to man defense seems outdated to me.......
Yeh, Oilers defense strategy looked pretty bad.

Hyman, RNH and Kane are not the problem necessarily. They're complementary pieces that shouldn't be expected to score regularly. The problem is the Oilers can't afford more players of that calibre.

If you think a core can consistently make the second or third round, there's absolutely no need to blow it up. That's a decent chance at a cup and any fans pretending that's not worth it have completely lost perspective. Minor tweaks should suffice, especially finding a goalie.
I think those 3 guys are perfectly fine complementary pieces. The problem becomes when you feel panicked and take Leon out of his spot to play with McDavid. You now don't have a legit #2 C since Nuge is basically a winger.

Stacks the lineup too much and it will eventually come back to bite you in the ass when you run into a team with actual depth like Vegas has.

They ran a graphic during the game at one point. High danger chances for/against Eichel were 10-8, but goals were 7-1. When he got chances against Skinner he scored, when the Oilers got chances against him Hill made the saves. Really what it comes down to.

If there's one thing I feel like gloating about it's that Vegas' handicap in net was significantly overblown. It's still not an ideal situation but they beat the best offense in the league in 6 with said handicap.
