We will never know but I honestly think Oilers would be worse off had they switched to Campbell
How do you figure? Skinner had an .890 SV% against LA and that was far and away his best series statistically. Skinner was pulled 4 freaking times total in these playoffs. What in the hell else do you look for as a sign to maybe start the other guy in a game?

Yeah I don't see this core getting it done. Too much reliance on the backs of McDrai, and just like last year, they got burned out. At least Draisatl did.

Hyman, RNH, Kane were all disappointing. Nurse is what he is. Bouchard is an absolute offensive weapon but he's in line for a big raise.

Both goalies need to be fired into the sun. I bet there are probably 15 guys in the AHL that deserve a spot over these two
Hyman, RNH and Kane are not the problem necessarily. They're complementary pieces that shouldn't be expected to score regularly. The problem is the Oilers can't afford more players of that calibre.

If you think a core can consistently make the second or third round, there's absolutely no need to blow it up. That's a decent chance at a cup and any fans pretending that's not worth it have completely lost perspective. Minor tweaks should suffice, especially finding a goalie.

well let me try this again, hopefully this wont get deleted, i removed the profanity the filter didnt get.

Imagine selling your team and organization's soul to sign a guy like Evander Kane. You know his history and why the league allowed him to be bought out, and yet you still sign him. He only puts up 4 points in 2 rounds and becomes a non-issue, except for swearing on TV about "####ing around and finding out" (which was actually just him throwing punches at a defenseless and prone player). The team, from top to bottom, is a crass and classless organization. Management tells fans who can't afford to attend that they're tier 2. They employ unlikable jerks, and when things don't go their way, fans pelt the ice with garbage. Tonight, cosmic justice visited that eyesore of an arena. This team is as if truck nuts morphed in to a hockey organization. It's so refreshing that they're done for the year, and a reminder that sometimes, the A-holes in life get what they deserve.
Started years ago with McTavish but it worked back then. They also grabbed Kassian after crash and then Kane.I will agree they only care about winning not integrity as an organization.

Oilers may be shitty but they showed a lot more effort than low life Jets.

Jets actually got way more than they deserved.. the A holes deserved to be the scum of the West. Only good thing they did was that they helped eliminate Flames from playoffs race.

15th worst in a 32 team league isn't cup caliber. We know they can be a top 8-10 team.
Their goalies dragged that ranking down by 4-5 spots this season imo. Campbell especially for a large stretch was just handing out goals and they kept playing him hoping he'd snap out of it.

They were much deeper than the Oilers are today. Take McDrai away and this team is in the Bedard race, while most of the named teams still would have comfortably made the playoffs.

Yeah, "easy to say in hindsight" UNLESS it was already being said by certain people BEFORE it became hindsight. In that case, it's foresight. Not hindsight.

Compare Oilers' treatment of goaltending in the playoffs to Panters'. Bob sucked in the regular season, Campbell sucked in the regular season. However, when Lyon started plaing poorly for Florida, Maurice immediately reacted and started playing Bob instead. Bob then carried Panthers to the conference finals on his back.

Oilers were in a similar situation. Campbell sucked all playoffs, however in playoffs Skinner started playing poorly. They just stuck with Skinner instead of switching to Campbell, Skinner continued sucking, and they got eliminated.

Is it possible that Campbell would have started sucking if they had started using him a lot more? Of course that's possible, but it's also possible he wouldn't have. In the little time he had in the playoffs, he was strong. Instead, they decided to trust on the guy who sucked, and shockingly enough, he kept sucking until he sucked the team into getting eliminated.
The craziest thing I ever saw.

I had zero doubts oilers were going to lose with skinner in net. Didn't even feel like watching when I heard the decision.

And last year he kept going back to a tired mike Smith instead of giving a game to koskinen vs the avalanche, who was more than capable of playing well for one game.

How is that a bad strategy? Oilers looked great in 3rd with McDrai united.
Marchessault said something interesting during the second intermission interview with Gene Principe..

He talked about the Oilers playing man to man defense in their own zone.......Didn't memorize his exact words but in my opinion he sounded confident that they could get to the net for goals against that type of Defense.......

Wouldn't they be better off playing a zone defense that keeps everything to the outside and let the goalie take care of the perimeter shots ?

I'm no guru and certainly no coach but man to man defense seems outdated to me.......

That Roy missed 4 minute high stick on Ekholm was brutal.
It is my understanding ALL 4 referees can call or verify a high stick penalty. 2 refs for sure. How do you miss that?

They were 12th in 5on5 Goal differential, which isn't anything special, but it's a far cry from what 80% of the trolls would have you believe. The team directly above them in 11th was none other than Vegas.

Easy to say in hindsight.

Skinner is the better goalie as of today. Which isn't saying much because Campbell is brutal.

But I would have likely done the same. I have zero trust that Campbell can win me a series where as Skinner I have just an ounce more trust.

That signing was a mistake and I'm sure the Oilers have realized it as
well.
As of today like in right now or say, before the game, Skinner is not the better goalie
