A lot of the 20 year old kids that have already committed are going to make a huge impact.

If you're talking about 18-19 year olds going over, it's not going to happen like some people here think.

Chicago Steel made the playoffs last year. Projected to do again this year.

That's like as good of a "down stretch" as it gets. No franchise can sustain being one of the few best every year. If the "down years" are still respectable, that almost says as much about a franchise as the best years.

And they've pulled in a bunch of big recruits in that stretch (Hage, Valentini, Croskery, Cloutier, Parsons, Pardue, Lapointe, Schultz, Sawchyn).

Charles Pardue is considered a big recruit? He’s never produced at the junior level. Chicago has a good program and culture, stemming from the Ryan Hardy days.

Donovan McCoy (2004 RHD out of the O) commits to Providence College

This is a great committment, he’ll be a top pairing guy right away. This is the type of player collaboration I envisioned it being, same with Mangone, Parsons, Whitehead, etc.

He's a big recruit for a junior hockey team. Was part of the NTDP. Getting those guys to then play for you in the USHL is always big for the USHL teams.

Obviously not the type of NHL superstar (probably likely not even an NHL'er) you might hope for, but plenty of good junior players amount to nothing in the pros.

Gotta think the CHL put the games in London and Oshawa for a reason- there is probably not 2 better rinks to go to and now these NTDP guys can come over

You are comparing a lot of 1 and done players to a system where Quebec/Halifax will get 4 years out of each tender.

Under a tender system, Quebec would have Ethan Gauthier, Tomas Lavoie, Caleb Desnoyers and Maddox Dagenais on their roster regardless of where their pick was (possibly Masse instead of Lavoie).

Over the same period, Halifax would have Peddle, Lavoie/Masse/Poirier, Guite or Morin, and Tynan Lawrence.

Quebec would give up picks 12, 18, 20, and 4 for these guys while Halifax would give up picks 6, 11, 19, and 15 for the top guys though a tender system.

While it is a different approach, it dramatically favors the top teams in a league where they get years of control.

They can delay their commits and play CHL
in between. Most of this year NTDP isn’t really good enough to play college next year.

A kid that went unsigned in his two year post draft window and then undrafted in his 19 year old re-draft doesn’t scream big fish imo. Presumably he could still get signed in the short window for overage players and drop his commitment but only a few overage guys get signed each year.

Okay, but the point is that it’s hard to believe that ship hasn’t sailed with this group. Most of these players will be playing college next year. And for the ones that aren’t, the CHL would have to drop the idea of not releasing their players before age 20. The ones that aren’t playing NCAA next year are almost certainly only spending next year in junior (or if 1 or 2 spend two more in junior they basically suck).

And for the players a year younger they aren’t joining the CHL until the CHL allows them to leave pre age 20. All those kids at this point are thinking they can play NCAA at 18 (maybe even 17 for a few of them).

So yeah as I said the pitch would be to kids that are 14 or 15. Chances are CHL don’t get any more than the occasional NTDP kid that would forgo the college path (and they wouldn’t have to necessarily do that now).
