Vegas about to circumvent cap again? UPD: Mark Stone back practicing.

So, we're all Blues fans now for the time being? Yes?
:shakehead, because
Stick a fork in the Blues.
I would have thought years ago HF would have realized to quit falling for one of the classic blunders - the most famous of which is never get involved in a land war in Asia and a slightly less well known one is never go in against a Sicilian when death is on the line - but that other one: never bet on the Blues to keep someone else out of a playoff spot.

Because ... unlike Rick Astley, we're always going to let you down.

That’s what happens when your team makes you sit out for months. Your conditioning sucks.

We’re basically one more shift away from load management like in the NBA. Vegas is killing hockey because now no longer are cups won by what you do on the ice. It’s how much you can manipulate off of it.
“Team makes you sit out months” because you haven’t healed yet, or are you saying fake injury? Kucherov legit had hip surgery, the league literally checked on him. He had been getting injections into his hip the previous season to be able to play too.

So yea, lack of conditioning from being out with surgery. Stone was injured too and yea you do lose conditioning when they tell you not to work out and such. The Oilers seemed to figure it because they were clearly targeting his back with constant hard cross checks all series lol.

No, it’s still about what you do on the ice. I’d feel pretty safe betting on Vegas to be out in the first or second round. People forget that not every dollar is spent equally first of all

The parity is still very real. All the teams that got over the cap from LTIR were/are very beatable. You’d think people believe every single million is another great player

The bolts were the closest to a super team and that had to do with years of excellent drafting, developing and savvy trades for young potential players. And they still had some tough series.

Of course he’s injured, I didn’t see anyone really questioning that. What is just absolutely amazing is his ability to be ready for exactly day one of the playoffs. Not a game early, which would be an issue for Vegas, and never missing a game if the playoffs. It is quite remarkable.
Dude tons of people had questioned the spleen injury (at least earlier. Maybe people have chilled on that) like they did Hossa’s skin condition because it’s “quirky” compared to more common injuries

It’s not “amazing” that he’s ready game one. At least not unless you mean in the sense Bergeron and tons of players were amazing for playing through injuries.

That’s NHL culture to play when you probably shouldn’t because everyone else is doing it and you got to make it count.

That’s the gray area created by the leagues own culture. It’s not the slightest bit remarkable.

I’m not a Blackhawks fan, a Knights fan or a Bolts fan and I really don’t give a shit about teams using LTIR like this. It’s good for players first of all if they have the luxury to get their body right because their team doesn’t desperately need you to play on a f***ed hip or back or whatever (which you take home to you with your kids and such)

And the I doubt the league is going to try to make players miss the playoffs with a playoff cap. At least not without making other changes

Ultimately I feel a lot of the response to this is typical emotional sports fan bull shit lol. Bolts fans didn’t like it when the Blackhawks did it. Then they did it. I’m sure lots of people in here would t be complaining if it’s their team.

A lot of it’s either fans of playoff teams who fear having to go through that series, or haters of teams doing it

It’s a competitive league. From the bottom up. Some teams do this or that aspect better than other teams. Occasionally a team does all of it well, and that’s how you get here or the Bolts or Hawks

I don’t care about it because every team is allowed to do it. Just not every team is capable of it. You need

1. Depth to weather losing key guys

2. Tradeable assets with some actual value

Many teams can’t do #1, and many can’t do #2 or even just don’t have the guts to. Those teams that hold on to draft picks like they’re more valuable than wins and or draft poorly. Or who are afraid to trade a core member.

Not trying to be a dick but it's clinched
His butthole is clenched in anticipation

My suggestion is that any player on LTIR for game 82 is ineligible for the first two games of the playoffs.

Typically playoffs start only a couple days after the end of the regular season. So player X on LTIR is unable to play on Sunday for regular season finale but is available to play game 1 of the playoffs on Tuesday. That’s is just ridiculous.

hockey fans by and large are over the questioning of the legitimacy of the injuries that require LTIR. Lacerated spleen is a real and significant injury that requires sufficient time to treat and heal. But being on LTIR through end of regular season should require player to miss at least the first two games of the playoffs. Yes, this would be enacted strictly to prevent shenanigans. If a team can withstand the loss of the best player for the first two games the after that do whatever you want. But there’s also a real concern that going down 2-0 could spell the end of your season.

Again, actual injuries that require LTIR are totally valid. But if they are so serious then the player cannot miss game 82 and suddenly be available for the start of the playoffs.

How about other teams stop making trades with the Knights until they stop this? I was surprised at how cheap the Knights got some of these players.

Judging from their actions, other owners and teams don’t see to care. If this is so wrong, then shouldn’t they try a lot harder to do the right thing? Or is it okay for other teams to try and help themselves even if they help cheaters cheat?

The Knights have made multiple trades over the last few years with multiple front offices. The Knights couldn’t do this alone. They had plenty of help.

Why should the Knights care so much about “doing the right thing” when so many other teams don’t seem to care and are still willing to make deals with them?

He will plan to play game 2.

If they win he will play game 3 at home. If they lose, he's in for game 2.

This is to throw everyone off. :sarcasm:

Before game 1 we’ll have Friedmans legendary tweets saying Stone will be a game time decision, real drama build up

It’s just the bs everyone is tired off.

How the hell can a player be too injured to play in game 82 but be all cleared for game 1, amazingly at the time the cap goes away

The cap heals players hell of a lot better than any doctor there

So just stop saying you can’t fool doctors and have healthy players sit on the side and far less people are bothered about this

Now this is just making the league look like a joke and even Vegas tweet is pushing the knife in well knowing

He was probably cleared a few weeks ago, but team asked doctors to do so just before playoffs so his salary does not count on the cap.

Same as Kucherov, etc. This is nothing new.

League doctors and not team doctors is the future. More teams should have done this, don't blame them for playing the system. Still hope they go out in round 1.

I don't think it's that absurd to be honest.

Who are the worst contracts in the league? If one of those guys gets put on LTIR at the beginning of the season, should they be worried that their GM will value their cap space more than what they bring? What incentives does that provide a GM that would love to bury a contract?

If there is really no need to return a player to the active roster when healthy (which admittedly appears to be the case) then I think the system is actually ripe for abuse.
teams just need to get better at it ...... the key is bringing in better players with the circumvented space.
And when they sell a contract to Arizona.

But it only works well if you have a good team to start with.
Fans need to quit whining because their team haven't pulled it off.
When injuries happen....opportunity knocks.

possobly a good rematch with the Stars

League doctors do go through LTIR players' injuries and make sure everything is correct.

& as we see every year they are easy to cheat/go around

Especially back pain is the easiest to cheat, vast majority of them are considered idiopathic, not knowing what’s causing the pain

Good luck cheating a lacerated spleen and the timelines for it.
