Again.... people need to realize none of this is circumvention.

If the Vegas team docters declare Eichel can't play until late April, that is their medical opinion. Maybe the Sharks team doctors opinion would be he can play in late March.

That wouldn't mean the Vegas doctors are wrong. It's a matter of medical opinion.

It's not cheating. if their medical staff deems Eichel cannot play until late April, that is their decision.
Add in the fact that the league has their own doctors who check in on these players, it’s not just a team doctors decision

The NHLPA also doesn't mind a player that could have returned earlier but didn't because they wanted to wait for the playoffs to bring them back.
The NHLPA absolutely minds when players are forced to play despite not being healthy. There's paragraphs of articles and exhibits in the CBA dedicated to protecting the players from having to do that.

Vegas did miss the playoffs when they tried the LTIR “shuffle” a couple years ago. When they started to slide, they brought the players back but it was too late. Did it again last year. If they are doing it again, this is their 3rd time doing they would be cheating.
I don't think it was the same that season, they were fighting injuries already in November and some guys just never got healthy. Having the most man games lost in the league is a bit different than LTRing a star player before the trade deadline.

This and you can bet your ass insurance companies aren't going to pay out money if they don't have to.
Insurance is the least of concerns for teams in this situation. Not to mention, it's not necessarily a given that insurance even applies because some players are uninsurable due to their injury history / some players have exclusions that apply for certain injuries.

Feels like 31 other teams just aren't trying hard enough to win it all this year if they're not even willing to literally kneecap a star roster player.

I meant a team under the cap could add the big ticket players on or before the trade deadline. Then run a roster millions over the cap after the trade deadline.
Oh I just meant that this rule would only apply for the playoffs. So you would still have to be compliant in the old way during the season after the deadline.

Fans are funny when it comes to successful teams. Irrational.

Mark Stone hasn't played a full season since 2014-2015 season. He is very injury prone. Why the surprise he got injured? And didn't he have a surgery last year? Just did it to help the team capologist? LOL

Jack Eichel had a surgery on his knee 5 weeks ago, I guess he is also faking it and just helping the team?

Meanwhile Oiler's Mike Smith reports to camp, fails physical (undisclosed why) and goes on LTIR. Was he injured to end the season? Played all playoffs so no. Where was the outrage?
Then the Oiler's overpriced Duncan Keith retires, so no more cap hit, only to get immediately employed as a front office guy. Don't these two Oiler moves scream cup circumvention? Sure, they sucked so didn't win like Vegas, but the Vegas players had actually missed a crapload of games and had surgeries. Not everything is a conspiracy.

If the NHL really wanted to close all the various LTIR "loopholes" they would get rid of the rule that allows teams to replace a player on LTIR's salary

What’s the benefit then of running a team under the cap for ~80% of the season till the trade deadline if you can‘t load up your roster for the playoffs?

I think it was a valid question for the mains. They did it last year. And now it appears they could be doing it again.

So you willfully ignore that Eichel has been out six weeks, had surgery and has already been reported as skating and is due back in March and that this was simply a move to activate Theodore while having other injuries?

Any cursory look on the Vegas board or around many sites would have shown you this.

You can't really hide that this is either a dishonest attempt to stir shit up or just not very well informed about the situation.

It's purely just as a way to have some limit on cap spending during the playoffs. I just don't think that continuing the cap as it is during the playoffs is a viable option, because there's no realistic way to get under the cap at that time. The league wouldn't want that awkward situation, no matter how reckless a team's GM is.

Having only dressed players count during the playoffs still gives those teams who do this LTIR sheninanigans a benefit, but they at least they don't get to stack the lineup to a ludicrous degree

Surely you can understand the difference between two players never playing hockey again versus players being too injured to play in the regular season but miraculously being healthy enough for day one of the playoffs.

The players that were “brought back” were playing hurt which is one reason the team stunk. Why does everyone assume that if a player is playing he is 100%? Guys will play when they are still banged up, especially in the important games.

Can people shut up about this stuff. EVERY TEAM IN THE LEAGUE CAN DO IT, AND WOULD DO IT IF NECESSARY! It is allowed, therefor it isn't breaking any rules!

Stone was not miraculously healthy in game 1. He was seen limping in practice after game 1, and had a poor game 1. But who cares about facts when you can rely on emotions?

Vegas has given away popular players in trades in the offseason because of cap trouble. If the team cheats so much they could have said those guys were all “injured.”
