Vancouver led the league in points at Christmas, Can they continue this run into the New Year?

Don't worry. It'll happen. It always does. 😉

Western Canada has been the most interesting region to me this season. No one expected Vancouver or Winnipeg to be this good, and Edmonton to start so poorly. It'll be interesting to see if Edmonton is this season's Florida, who go into the playoffs already playing playoff hockey trying to maintain a playoff spot and go on a roll. The playoffs out there will be a fun one, looking forward to it.

Canucks have like a 85% wr with souchy in the line up.

he got hurt, Canucks lose their stable other left dman, which forced us to play Ian Cole more. Myers struggled dearly for whatever the hell reason and it seems like Myers can only play with another tall dman as his partner.

soucy comes back stabilizes the 2nd lhd which now we are guaranteed a good 45 minutes at least of 2 good lhds.
i do think they can continue this run wether they can win the presidents trophy much harder and a different question. the last 3 games we are going oilers style stacking one line and it’s worked well for us. I do think we need at least another rhd a top 4 rhd to be a real threat.

When you put it that way.. it's clear our franchises have been virtually identical for the last 6 years. I keep forgetting you are not allowed to have good players on your squad.. it's an unfair advantage for sure.

Also, in those 6 years we had Chia and Holland.lol This may be the first post I've ever read that suggests we had a GM advantage over, um, anyone.
To be fair, neither were as bad as Benning.

Regression doesn't necessarily translate to an overcorrection. I expect us to still be playing decent hockey even if PDO falls down to league average.

If anything, this season is the positive regression from all the bad luck we've had the last decade with Benning.

That's how you should take it. Not every fanbase has been as fortunate as Vegas to not experience long term suffering. That is why as merely a fan of the Oilers....I laugh anytime someone mentions the lottery and first overalls. Like I had anything to do with it and I should take it personally that someone else was shitty at their job. I had nothing to do with it and as a fan I suffered through it all. So, when something good comes the team's way as a fan I will accept it, embrace it and laugh at anyone who panties get in a twist over it. It isn't for them to enjoy anyway.

And if you wanna rub some faces in it along the way to those who maybe need a little egging...there's that too :)

We just need to remember it is a two way street lol

I love how you guys say it will happen. No duh, but when?? Could be next month or next year? 🤔

Probably not until next year when the season stats reset. Even if all the variables trend downward, we are far enough in the season that the cumulative numbers won't really drag them down unless they completely fall off a cliff. I mean, even if they got average goaltending and scoring for the rest of the year, they will maintain the above average level.

And like @DS7 said, "Regression doesn't necessarily translate to an overcorrection."

You're a good hockey fan of the best variety. That's all I got. :thumbu:

I mena the Canucks record is inflated. They look pretty similar to the Flames from a couple of seasons ago and they got stomped in the second round. No one knows when teams woll regress to the mean, but it happens sooner or later.

I mean anything is possible. Maybe the Canucks win the Cup. I think the more likely result is that they get ran over by a team in the playoffs with stronger 5v5 play.

So 'anything is possible' is your way of absolving yourself of being wrong no matter what. Then if the Canucks lose in the 2nd round or wherever you can slap on the ol' told yah so routine.

Good for you man. Good for you.

What I’ve learned lately is that Canucks fans are 1) a single monolithic fanbase that all harbour the same tendencies and 2) wrong to be happy for their team’s success after years of misery.

Truly, it is improper to celebrate the fact that the on-ice results have started to line up with the high end talents the team has had for a few years - who are now properly supported or structured.

We should feel shame.

Every victory warrants an apology.

I’m sorry.

If you won 2 rounds, you’d do the same. Different side of the same coin lol

All I want for Christmas is a:

East
Toronto vs. Montreal

West
Winnipeg vs. Vancouver

Then Santa, I wish for:

Vancouver vs. Toronto Final

With a game 7 TOR victory in Vancouver.

You’d make a fantastic statistics teacher

I’ll slow it down. If you guys won 2 series, you would be screaming ‘see screw your regression, it’ll never happen’
sigh... you see? no one cares whether it regresses or not, other than Edm fans. No one in HFVan is constantly monitoring for the PDO to drop.

If it indeed does and this team still make playoffs, its the expectation, mission accomplished. Fans will be happy. If they lose in round 2, thats a huge win for the organisation. If they go beyond that, or god forbid, beat the oilers in the process, I suspect there will be a lot of Oiler fans' heads exploding while the boards will be flushed with annoying canucks fans like in the early 2010s.

but wouldn't he be correct? Rarely does the team with the best underlying numbers win the cup. And I haven't seen many (if any) canucks fans saying this team is winning the Cup. Just that the regression may not happen and they are enjoying the team. Meanwhile, all the haters are saying canucks are going to plummet back to Earth. If they make the playoffs they're getting bounced quickly by a better 5on5 team, etc etc.

So if canucks win 2 rounds, they are achieving as much or more than most canucks fans are expecting and claiming, and also more than the haters are saying.

… I’m not and Edmonton fan, nor do I care if it drops or not. But it will drop at some point lol my gripe is with not understanding basic statistical outliers

You don't have to slow anything down for me I'm not daft it's just a stupid analogy.

Saying a team lost in the 2nd rd due to 'regression' is just flat out idiotic. It really doesn't matter the team.
