When we win the PDOlympic Gold Medal, do we play Carolina for their Corsi Cup, winner take all?

It's just been announced: As of tomorrow the rest of the season has been cancelled and the Stanley Cup will be awarded to the team with the best offensive zone possession.

When you put it that way.. it's clear our franchises have been virtually identical for the last 6 years. I keep forgetting you are not allowed to have good players on your squad.. it's an unfair advantage for sure.

Also, in those 6 years we had Chia and Holland.lol This may be the first post I've ever read that suggests we had a GM advantage over, um, anyone.
Lets look at it objectively during Benning's 8 year tenure:

Worst trade:
Benning: Garland+OEL for 9th overall pick + 2nd round pick + 7th round pick + a bunch of expiring contracts
Chia/Holland: Reinhart for 15th overall pick

Winner: Jim Benning given the fact this cost the oilers a later pick and 0 cap space implications

Worst UFA signing:
Benning: Loui Eriksson 6M x 6 years
Chia/Holland: either Milan Lucic (6M x 7 years) or Jack Campbell (5M x 5 years)

Winner: Jim Benning given the fact Loui was a buyout proof contract barely good enough for the SHL by the end and provided nothing to a NHL roster a replacement level player couldnt provide. Lucic is still a NHLer today, Campbell can easily be bought out for a fraction of his cap hit.

Playoff appearances:
Canucks: 2
Oilers: 3

Winner: Jim Benning.

1st round picks:
Canucks: 7
Oilers: 8

Winner: Jim Benning. Somehow managed to only make the playoffs 2 times in 8 seasons (was on the verge of missing the 8th year) and would have really only kept at most 6 1sts (given that he was hired 1 month before his first draft where he had 2 selections)

Jim Benning sweeps every category of worst GM!

Can somebody fact this ?
PDO was definitley an Oiler fan. He used to post on the blog Irreverent Oil Fans.

One of the main posters on that blog "Vic Ferrari" became the main advanced stats guy for the Washington Capitals. Vic invented corsi. Another one got hired by the Devils. MC79 posted there a bunch, but had his own site. He's currently the head stat guy for the NJ Devils.

They all also posted on Lowetide's site who also used to be an HFboards poster. There was a lot of very interesting stats convos had in the public realm during that time 2005-2010ish.

I used to browse other teams pages because until about 2 months ago HF nucks was a toxic cesspool of the worst of the worst. Most of those dbags are gone but I occasionally browse other forums and the oiler fans have lost their shit over the nucks and jets. Everyone shits on the habs and leaf fans but hf oil is what I imagine an NHL safe space full of betas would sound like.
Telling each other it's pdo and easy schedule etc, anything to convince themselves that they are still relevant because they have anylytics behind them. I'm stoked for jets fans after all the abuse they put up with.
I mena the Canucks record is inflated. They look pretty similar to the Flames from a couple of seasons ago and they got stomped in the second round. No one knows when teams woll regress to the mean, but it happens sooner or later.

I mean anything is possible. Maybe the Canucks win the Cup. I think the more likely result is that they get ran over by a team in the playoffs with stronger 5v5 play.

They just scored 17 goals in 3 games...

0 on the powerplay

To me it's like Makar vs Hughes... or Matthews vs McDavid.. can we not all just agree that those guys are all great!

Now the same for the GM's except I'd like to think we can all agree they are all absolute shit. Maybe one is 8 piles of shit and the other is 7 piles of shit but it's still a lot of shit.
