Not sure why anyone is surprised. Leafs were built to be an superior offensive scoring machine which they are. But outside Rielly their defense and goaltending is below average.
This team is Auston Matthews and Marner and Nyander on occasion. The depth up front is far from superior when it comes to scoring and the defense and goaltending are below average.

The President is a moron and the jury is out on the new GM.

But that’s why Keefe might need to shake things up, try to find different combinations that click. And this would need to be tried for longer than a few shifts, or one period, or one game. What do they have to lose with how things have gone so far?
Haven't we tried a number of different combos over this period? Spread out the big 3, normal top 6 and a loaded up top line?

Big changes needed.
I watched every second of the last 6 miserable games and the only thing that didn't make it a 6 game win streak was not having a goalie.

Jones is old and washed. He used up all his health points keeping us in the top 3 of the division to this point. Big pat on the back for his hard work but back to backup for him.

It's time for a new goalie. Need to pile up some wins for a nice cushion on last wild card.

And yes there's stuff to be said about team defence but I'm not giving a report on the team. It's facts that some goaltending easily flips the last 6 games into a 6 game win streak.

Gut the team at your own risk.

coaching is less the issue.

now that you have made it public, it seems insane that the NHL wouldn't act on your reporting.

if it had some merit.

what do you think? Is the NHL ignoring your solid case against a referee who is biased against your favourite team? or something else.

are you yourself connected to the NHL somehow? that might explain a lot.
Not my reporting, but thanks, I think.

If the league were to acknowledge it, then they'd be admitting there was a problem, and if it were an actual problem, boy oh boy would the books ever be angry.

As for myself, I don't think it's a problem at all, all I'm doing is being observant. Do you follow basketball? Point shaving is a hallowed tradition both at college and pro levels, and there's a million ways to do it.

Your favourite football team is down by 7, the clock is ticking, and the team is driving. The QB is laying in passes on crosses 6 yds at a time as they cross the 50 the defence is getting jumpy and the safety's are staying home. It's what the offence wants. The QB is under centre, he fakes the pitch rolls right burning time waiting for the receiver to make the break but the allpro LB who's as fast as any RB is suddenly there and drops him for an 8 yard loss.

2nd and 18, a passing down for sure. The offence lines up in a shotgun. He looks downfield as his TE makes the out break and the RB slides into the flat, completion good for 14, but there's a flag. Holding, wtf holding this Oline is the least penalized in the entire league?, lose the gain +10, lose the time which is worse. Next down, the routes are different, a completion's made and another flag, this time its the back judge who calls it.

The guys in the booth are pouring over the replay, looking for the infraction and of course there's always going to be a hold, just because someone always holds.

Forgotten in all that is now instead of possibly being in field goal range and they need 30 for the first and the clock is dwindling away. A change of possession the home team scores on a quickie up pattern just past the 2min warning, and they go up 17-3. Game over the 49ers go back home and have to wait till next year. The next day the books are are collecting big on the Giants.

Stuff like that happens

All the time, and if you're not seeing it you must be kinda new.

So many issues with this team, mainly in goal, our d-core and our d-zone structure. This team will never go anywhere when 2 of the most important pieces are tire fires.

Come the summer time, the defense needs a complete redo. Gio/Brodie are washed and Lilly hasn't taken the next step that we need/expected him to take this season.

I wouldn’t spend an asset on another backup, do they try to fit Fleury in?

Why wait until summer? I think it should start right now

Have we ever found out how this is Van Ryn's fault?

I'm guessing there's some super secret, members only access to a Jeffler blog where all of Van Ryn's failures are detailed.
Maybe we could get a sample?

It’s going to be the 2020 season all over again. The Leafs management will not spend assets to help this team. It will be addition by subtraction like they did with Tyson Barrie. I think one of Domi/Bertuzzi is probably moved as a rental. Then we trade for a depth defenseman. That’s probably it.
I'd rather they didn't open up another box of bandaids, because all it is, is an exercise in futility, it has never worked and all it does is cost us huge in the long run.

There is something broken deep in the core of this team and acquiring another beaten up veteran isn't going to get us any closer.

I don't feel good in saying any of that, but the patient needs major surgery. The real problem is that, if you don't move the right guy you'll still have the problem.

The best thing they can do is let this season play out and hopefully pick in the top dozen, and then move out the problem. The coach will have to go, because no matter what he is tainted with all the bad chemistry!

I am so disappointed that it's come to this.

You ain't part of the club and you never will be, sorry.

Last night when the Canucks gave up their 3 goal lead their captain was smashing his stick and freaking out on the bench. I can only guess it’s because he hates to lose.
Our guys upon losing just sit their like bumps on a log looking like I can only guess they can hardly wait to get back to their hotels
Our captain probably just stared out into space like a bumbling idiot

8 games now where he’s been a liability every time he suits up. In terms of on ice performance, he’s lead the way for the inept play

This season is a write off and managements knows it.

Jones has always been at best a backup. Not sure what the leafs were expecting.
They were expecting him to maybe play half a dozen games as a short-term injury replacement and spend most of the season with the Marlies.
Did you play for Skip Bertman?
This guy was a coach???

I wouldn’t mind Berube.
Is he actually a good coach or just a meathead who just got really lucky one year?

I don’t think there is any combo which makes Bert effective, even last night he blew the empty net to give us a 4-3 lead. He’s more disappointing than anyone, I’d deal him for the highest pick

Gregor is a fourth liner, and we have that set for now

Knies isn’t completely ready for the nhl

Tavares has been tried with Marner, nylander, and neither. Looks like a 4C no matter what

These guys are just bad, and in knies case, not ready.

My only complaint is we spread the big 3 out 1 game, it worked and then we instantly went back to normal top 6

Keefe needs to have an extended look at 3 lines

Coincidentally that's when wifey and I quit watching the game and turned on Killers of the Flower Moon. It was a nice feeling not wasting 3 hours of my life watching mediocrity for a change.
Awesome?

Not so awesome?

Meh?

Scorsese is losing his grip?

You're not wrong...

I wonder if a guy who is not the son of a billionaire would get the same opportunities Tre has got, if you look at his track history, a not stellar history, not a terrible history, he makes as many good moves as bad moves... kinda feels like a knowledgeable fan could have the same effect as Tre.
The upside though! Free pizza and quesidillas in the boardroom.

We can get Bert away from Tavares, that's a good start. Tavares is a blackhole for offense right now and is dragging down every linemate they put him with.

Too bad we screwed up Mitch's best game of year .. he played a stellar game all around .. but same old same old .. Willy showed up a few times but was largely non-existent .. some decent shifts here and there from 3rd and 4th lines

But bottom line that D is bottom 5 in league and they can't handle any speed on top of them .. we are a give way machine in our own end .. outside of McCabe we can't stop a cycle to save our lives .. and outside of Benoit we don't clear da net to let our tenders see pucks and mitigate deflections .. it is an unmitigated disaster in our backend .. but Tre/Shanny just watch on and DO NOTHING to FIX it .. da definition of insanity is to do same thing and expect a different result .. eventually any tender will suffer badly .. much like Demko last year when Canucks played brutal defense .. like I said you could put Roy in our net and nothing will change .. thinking Woll or anyone else is gonna change da end result is dreamin in technicolor

And lastly Keefer you can move JT to LW please .. we are getting rolled badly every shift he is on da ice at C .. that one my friend is on you .. we all know you have NO D but you can move JT out of C immediately and help team immediately .. use JT on da wall to help clear our zone .. he is a simple player and he can handle da job as well as face-offs .. thats it that all

Let’s see if this genius sits Knies for a Robertson tonight, because he clearly needs a reset.

That was a really hard fought game last night, in terms of style of play. Maybe if we started on time, the result may have been different. I actually thought Marner was a monster this game, and I’ve see a few Canucks fans notice that as well.

Jarnkrok and Willie are a terrible PK pair too.

Kampf has to bring more.
You can add Matthews to those two, of guys who should never be on the PK.

the pk started to slide when they started of putting solely offensive guys on it.

You might as well have Domi or Bertuzzi out there as well.

Can’t wait for the 6.5 million dollar increase in cap hits due to Matthews and Nylander’s new contracts to kick in. Should make our lives a lot easier imo
Pay em more, more wins

Amirite
