Horvat or Hughes on their own are worth more than Doughty. The guy is going to be 32 in December and his best days are long behind him. A deal with Hughes and Horvat would start with Byfield and Clarke.

???????

What do you mean with "start"
The whole Canucks organization isn't worth a Byfield or Clarke

Obviously the trade is stupid at best but anyone thinking Doughty is done is seriously mistaken. He had a great bounce back season and his recent form is as much down to a poor team around him than anything else. He’s still elite defensively and had a reasonable offensive season, whilst yet again babysitting his D partner. However the baby sitting job for once seems to have been worth the investment as Anderson had a really solid season.

Lol at the idea that Drew Doughty is going to retire at age 34

Again yes the trade doesn't happen but there is some seriously hot takes about DD here

Don't be obtuse. You think Pettersson, Hughes, Boeser, Horvat, Miller, Garland and Demko are worth less than the 8th overall pick in a weak draft or a 2nd overall pick who hasn't proven anything at the NHL level? If Byfield even touches Pettersson's level, you take that and run.

Unless Byfield and Clarke have suddenly morphed into Gretzky and Orr overnight, without my knowledge, you may want to think before you post.

The insanity in this thread is amazing.

The amazing lopsided favor towards the Kings.

The tired Doughty is washed meme.

The idea that the Kings might be hesitant not have Elder and Maatta as their experienced Dmen. Since if this trade happens they’d be the only 2 to play over 2 full seasons of game’s on the roster.

That a 60 point center is a superstar.

That that center is worth more than Doughty even if Doughty was young.

And that the Kings would trade Byfield and Clarke for every player on Vancouver.

There are some real good gems in here.

Doughty is still a good player and yes he did have a good bounce back season (in an awful division though). However calling him "elite defensively" is fundamentally wrong, Doughty has never been elite defensively, he's been average at best. He has however been an elite offensive defenseman.

Lol when has he ever been elite defensively?
It has always been the stronger part of his game. Seriously, did you want him between 2011 and 2017? I can only presume not as the debate was always around if Doughty’s elite D made him a better player than Karlsson and his Elite offence.

Not really interested in Hughes. Good at offense, defense not so much. Kings have plenty of centers so the other piece doesn't do much for the Kings & is UFA in 2 years. With the $ on Hughes new contract, I'd rather have Doughty.
You could just trade Hughes to NJ for a good haul (Ty Smith, b prospect and 1st)as well as trade Horvat at the deadline for couple sweet picks and a pretty good prospect.

You ain't getting that for Doughty.

It would be perfect for a young up and coming team such as LA

Doughty being better defensively than Karlsson doesn't make him elite defensively, it just makes him more well rounded. There is a massive difference between being decent defensively and being elite. An example of an elite defensive defenseman would be someone like Hjalmarsson or Vlasic, or in recent times McAvoy. But Doughty is definitely not that.
