What a stupid, short sighted move. We very likely would have gotten a better player(s) with that mid 1st and high 2nd in a deep draft, along with the benefit of an ELC.

This is the current management’s version of the Gudbranson trade. Almost identical assets given up, albeit a better player in return. Blueberries is still running the agenda of this team. I hope there’s a huge drop in season ticket sales this year, f*** Frankie.

Good comparison. Another year where we could be finishing bottom 5 and having no second rd pick.

F$%& this team. Once again they want to "win" next season with a patched together roster that might compete for a playoff spot...instead of rebuilding properly.

Another terrible part about doing this trade now is if he actually helps this team win games and put them in no man’s land ie a mid round pick rather than a top 10 one. This team isn’t going to the playoffs, so doing this trade now certainly harms lottery chances as well. Just perplexed on timing. It doesn’t make sense.

The timing of this move makes it especially bizarre. Why not wait until the offseason when you can see who shakes loose for cap reasons? Why f*** up your cap situation even more going into the offseason, where you are now capped out without a full roster? Just bizarre stuff.
You do wonder if the Canucks had to pay a premium at the TDL, when it may have been cheaper in the off season.

We turned Horvat into Hronek. The grass really isn't greener. Much rather have Horvat at 8.5.

I don't even like the move but this just isn't true.

Even if you want the team to turnaround quick, this doesn't even fit that timing. Next year is a wash with Myers on the books and Boesser unlikely to be dealt without retention, and afterwards he needs a new contract. If he had more cost-control for 3+ years you could ARGUE this is okay-ish, but without that, I'm mad sus about the overall direction of the team.

What's the goal here - to be the New York Knicks of hockey and make the first round but bow out all the time?

Every new GM should be given a standard “what not to do as a GM“ book. The first chapter of said book is entitled “don’t trade with Steve yzerman”

And, to be clear, this is absolutely the case.

If he can be the Toews to Hughes' Makar and be a pairing that tilts the ice for 25 minutes/game, this will be a win regardless of the price.

This is a really fascinating trade.

Devon Toews' underlying numbers even before being shipped out to Colorado were fantastic. There was a real chance of a breakout there all along. Anyone expecting anything close to Devon Toews is setting themselves up for a massive, massive let down.

I don’t care if he is a good defender, he is not a star defender, This draft is stupidly deep, and we traded Two picks, its f***ed.

I am so incredibly pissed, somebody calm me down.

Horvat extended and a 2nd for Hronek (not extended) Ratu and a 4th.

i dont understand what the direction is here.

This only makes sense if Boeser / Jt. Miller are on their way out and more picks are coming back in, AND there's an extension for Hronek incoming.
But even still, why not use those picks for Hronek and keep ours? Ours are the ones that are going to be high.

I feel like this team pulled the rug out from under me. Bait and switch. And I'm steamed because of it.they can rot their way past 60, 70, 80 years and counting without a single f***ing Stanley Cup in its entire pathetic existence for all I care.

No one does. They don't. Just pissing in the wind and seeing which way it goes.

Filip Hronek is playing the best hockey of his career for the Red Wings

Read that, and now read this.. fook a toook in the smook this trade.

What Should the Red Wings Do About Filip Hronek?

What should the Red Wings do with Filip Hronek? As the rebuild is coming together, players on the roster are falling into the roles of core, placeholders and just-in-case depth, assets for future trade, or young players that we hope will comprise the future core. And then there is Filip Hronek.

Hronek is too old to be a prospect that will make up the future core of the team. But then you look at his age, and he is only 24 years old. In that, it’s hard to really figure out where he stands with this team? Is he the odd man out? I mean, he has been the best offensive defenseman on the team for the last two years. But he has not shown the ability to quarterback the powerplay.

He has been a defenseman paired against the opposition’s top offensive lines. But his defensive zone coverage is suspect. He does not seem to fit neatly into any role in the rebuild. With the four free-agent blue line signings, at least two NHL-ready blue line prospects, and several prospects on the way Hronek’s role is further in doubt. Does he fit with the team’s future at all?
