I still wouldn't have trade for Miller, as a rebuilding team you simply don't trade your first round pick.

I am the biggest hater of Jim Benning alive but I can still recognize this was a massive W.

Where JB messed up was OEL, Myers, Dickinson, Beagle, Rousell, Eriksson, etc. etc.

Getting Miller for a late first and a third round pick is one of the FEW good moves he's ever done. It's a massive win in surplus for the Canucks.

Wth this is the second dumbest comment I've seen today.

How are there any guarantees any D man we pick will pan out?
Do you just think that every other team that bottoms out is doing it wrong when they stockpile picks and gear up for a couple BIG drafts? The Canucks are the ones doing it right?

Relax, I missed the word potentially.
It's still better than adding a 25 year old RFA who is gonna need a raise next year, on a team that's 27th in the league.

It's the same cycle over and over, mediocrity for life

You're looking at this too black and white.

We are literally going to overhaul this team. This year's record likely isn't a good indicator for next year.

they're out of ammo. no more reloading

what you see is what you get

Well i hope he works out because i dont see Petey wanting to stay on this loser team
If im his agent im putting a huge number forward 🤣

What we have to understand is that Allvin doesn't work for the Vancouver Canucks. He works for Francisco Acqualini and makes upwards of 2 million a year. If you get paid that much you'll do anything your boss wants.

They have support who they think they only need support from, and that's this f***ing one minded brain dead ownership
The only support they need is ppl showing up to the games, and in this city, with its fairweather fans and oodles of money, it comes in droves. The words that come out of fans who lived and died w this team are meaningless.

This is a team absolutely know that this draft is Stacked, It's one of, if not the best draft class some people are saying in a decade.

You then get some draft capital, and you trade not just a 1st rounder, But a 2nd Rounder in the process, When you have one of the worst prospect pools in the league, absolutely Awful cap situation, and just truly one of the worst Ds you can imagine

In the bigger picture, the Miller trade was a loss. We couldn't even trade Miller for Schneider last year, who we would have been able to draft if we kept the pick and hadn't acquired Miller. And without Miller the 2019 pick is at least one slot lower letting us grab Clarke if we didn't commit the worst trade in franchise history with it. Now we've converted him into an anchor of a contract. Ultimately the Miller trade was Benning's best work and still a net negative for the franchise at every stage of the way.

To be competitive we need to dump OEL, Myers, Boeser, Pearson and Poolman. That's 25M, a little less than 1/3 the entire cap.

And then we need to find two more top 4 dmen, a 3C and fill out the roster with cheap but effective depth.

All we've got to do it is this years first and maybe Hog. Nothing else has value.

It blows my mind that people just handwave all of this away with "we'll just overhaul the team and everything will be better LOL"

No, this draft sucks when it comes to D man, you will be lucky somebody pans out to be at least as good as Hronek.
Okay, Great then you Draft Centers which the draft is stacked with.
Lots of people think that with all the Wingers also available, some of the best D will slip into round 2, Which we have no fight in anymore.

I'll wait and see how Hronek plays before i melt down. I can understand why fans are annoyed but you gotta imagine they are trying to do what they can to be competitive to please Petterson and Hughes. I don't think either of them would like to wait for them to draft players and for said draft players to become quality NHL'ers to compete . Would prob lose both of them in the process.

With no assets.

There's no one coming, no prospects, etc.

The team is going to look nearly the same as right now.

There are definitely more moves coming.

Regardless, a full year of Beau, Demko, Bear, Hronek, Mikheyev and others is going to be huge. No coaching drama/rumors is also going to let the players focus on actually playing the game.

We also have young players coming up that could contribute (Hoglander, Podkolzin, Raty).

Wolanin looks like he'll be a mainstay on the team.

Potential OEL buyout or Myers trade would be huge.

A likely Boeser trade is also going to be massive - he's been pretty checked out this year.

Somewhere in the hundreds of pages LOL bro who reported it? You clearly know about this report aint like theres a ton of reporters out there

You use to be a quality poster that I enjoyed reading, now you just make up reports to help drive your narrative

What in the actual f***.

There have been literally hundreds of links posted here in the past few days. I couldn’t find the one but it took like 2 seconds to do a google search and find that Seravalli was saying that exact thing in January.

I give you that link which proves what I was saying, and you accuse me of lying again?

Agreed.

I just don't understand how fans are already ready to burn the city.

At least let Hronek play some games before the tears start coming out? It's arguably the most toxic fanbase of any sports team ever.

Let's put some things into perspective before we burn the city down.

Here's the last time the Canucks did a similar type of deal and traded a first round pick for a player that was entering his prime (JTM)...

1st round pick (Shakir Mukhamadulin - not in NHL yet)
3rd round pick (Hugo Alnefet - not in NHL yet)

Here are some of the reactions from HFboards...

Etc.etc.

Anyways, a sensible take is to wait for the NYI pick to play out and to see how Hronek performs and what the roster is going to look like next year.

I don't know why people just resort to crying and whining. People are literally saying they're going to stop being fans.. it's freaking hilarious.
Luckily JT brought all the winning, playoff success, and Stanley cups. That shut everyone up

JTM was the best trade this organization made since the Luongo trade.

If JB didn't absolutely blunder everything else (Juolevi, Virtanen, OEL, Rousell, Beagle, Eriksson, Myers, Dickinson, etc.), Canucks could have been a legitimate Cup contender.

No, apart from the one obnoxious boomer in this thread who’s trying so hard to defend this everyone I know is livid.

Man.. it's tough to think critically and have patience.

It's easier to just whine and cry.

God forbid someone has an opposing opinion... guess they're just obnoxious boomers.

What in the blue hell?
Why would the team buy now in this skewed market condition?
This is a Benning-esque move...
And we know how those turns out.

I am not a fan of Hronek either.
He is a very limited top 4...
Who needs the right partner to be effective.
On this team...
He will just be exposed.

Whatever.
This just further convinces me that the whole franchise is rotten to the core.
Management should not have made the move...
And ownership should not have approved it.

We literally couldn't even trade Miller last year for the guy that would have been right in that slot if we didn't have Miller in Schneider.

"best trade since Luongo" - not even worth the asset we gave up for him last year, before we turned him into an anchor

And yet the trade meant absolutely nothing because all they did was lose.

lol because it's the SAME THING THEY KEEP DOING OVER AND OVER AND OVER.

How is it toxic to simply request: "Hey maybe, at some point, you should start drafting and developing a prospect pipeline."

They build us up by adding an intriguing top 16'ish looking pick then send it along with their other top 40 pick for a 2nd pairing d-man who couldn't cut it on Detroit.

We see this same exact thing ever couple of years. Go back and look at the number of picks the Canucks have each year. They have less than playoff contenders most years and they have been near the bottom of the league for a decade as opposed to a team like the Devils who have been drafting high and well and adding picks and prospects during that same time and now are actually competitive.
