Watched a bunch of hronek footage, seems like he panics under pressure and can get beat by good skaters pretty easily. But hes positionally responsible.

From what I've seen I'd say he reminds me of winnipeg tyler myers with a better shot.

this is almost exactly what he is

he's more positionally aware than myers but he's just as bad when pressured

I'm saying that, while the core group of EP. QH and TD is solid, they need soooooo much more to be a contender. Having a few solid guys will only lead to a middling team. They needed to double down on acquiring as many younger assets as possible so that, in 3 or 4 years, when EP, QH and TD are at their peaks, they will have the makings of a contender.
Your timeline is off though.. the EP,QH,TD core are not hanging around (until they are 27-28) waiting for support..Their primes are right now, and should be supported.

We've still got our 1st round pick in the draft.

Man this player sucks. Doesn’t even deserve his own thread
It's because honestly very few people here even care about Hronek.

Abject losers, these Canucks. Who buys at the deadline when they're 7th last in the standings and not exactly trending up?

The thing about Hronek is, Allvin and Rutherford should have tons of exposure to this player, when they were managing the Pens.

Wouldn't surprise me they look at him like a young Letang.

I think the closest comparable I can think of is Neal Pionk.

Similar 5'11-6 ft RHD who moves the puck well and has a heavy shot, can run your pp. Good on the transition, at times gets in trouble defensively - especially with bigger forwards. Both aren't big but play with a bit of chip on the shoulder, nothing super tough but will drop the gloves.

His value comes significantly from what he does on the powerplay. He won't be replacing Quinn on PP1, and they won't be playing 2 D on PP1 either.

He has pretty inflated shooting & on-ice SV% numbers this season, and I think it's interesting that the Wings dumped him despite being cost controlled, young, and pretty good - I'm guessing they've looked at those percentages and production & feel like it's not sustainable. Yzerman isn't a goof.

LMAO.

It's not just about buying UFA years... god damn you really don't know anything about hockey.
So you’re saying that Vancouver could’ve just signed Pettersson for 8 years instead of 3 for the same AAV? Same goes for Quinn too, right? Well why didn’t they???

If you think Hronek is going to make $8M in his next deal... good for you but like I said, I'm not sure what crack your smoking.
I said that will be his ask and there’s nothing to suggest it won’t be. Him at $7M+ longterm coupled with this acquisition cost isn’t a good deal. That’s my point.

Sergachev is a MUCH better player than Hronek at this point in time. Also Tampa is rewarding their players after winning cups. It's not a fair comparison at all.
They’re numbers are extremely comparable which is really the biggest factor in contract negotiations. The whole “Tampa rewarded their players” argument doesn’t work when you’re dealing with your own players that want to get paid like their comparables.
On an 8 year deal, he'll get contracts similar to Weegar, Morrissey, etc.

$8M for Hronek HAHAHAHHA that's probably the funniest thing said all day from a Canucks fan.
More players that signed contracts that aren’t actually comparable. You’re terrible at this.

Just like Hughes, he is apparently meant to excel at zone exits...He's a good player.

Listen,I wanted to see 2 first round picks in canuck sweaters as much as the next guy..but looking at where the canucks are currently at in their cycle, this does start making a bit more sense..It was a lot to give up though.
Where are they in their cycle? A basement dweller?

You actually know nothing about hockey if you think Hronek is going to ask for $8M+ at his current pace.

Cale Maker makes $9M
Miro Heiskanen makes $8.45M
Quinn Hughes makes $7.85M
John Carlson makes $8M
Alex Pietrangelo makes $8.8M
Aaron Ekblad makes $7.5M

You think Hronek is anywhere even close to the level of these players? Like I said, let me know where you're getting the bud because it's hitting good.

Or you just have no idea how hockey works.

Of course the guy who plays 22 mins a night is only considered a "PP QB".

Only Canucks fans man...

Ya 22 mins a night on a non playoff team that's better than the team he's coming to. He's simply swapping supporting casts.

In a vacuum would I have traded Horvat for Hronek? I think I would have if we were a team coming out of a rebuild.
When you subtract the high second this year and add Beau and Raty I think that’s a deal that an up and coming team with a real weakness at D should make.
But we aren’t that team. We needed lots of draft picks this year and next and then that’s a trade I probably make. The impatience of successive management groups is just dooming this franchise to more years of mediocrity.

He's not making 8M.

He probably won't make 7M.

You suggesting he would be making 8+ is the biggest joke I've read today.

So you're saying lock the team into being mediocre to appease one player? Got it.
Players of Pettersson's caliber don't grow on trees. Basically every Cup team of the last 15 years has had a guy like him on their squads besides the Blues and I guess the Kings.

It's a lot easier to build around him than hoping to find another guy that good or knock it out of the park with 15 quality guys to make up for it.

I’m back with a cooler head and can think straight.

This is even worse than I thought the more I think about it. Dear god I hate this team. But i’ll continue to watch and shitpost every day.

I'm honestly fascinated to see how they justify this next year when they also miss the playoffs.

Like... at some point who will care? It's the same old show over and over again and the org seems to not understand.

We have to stop that cycle though. I'm preaching to myself here as much as anyone else.

In the event that they felt like they needed to give up picks for a stable RH #1 partner for hughes, I'd say okay but our team isn't in the position to be doing something like that.

But that sad part is I don't think hronek is even that.

I’m not that pissed off about them trading the Islander’s pick for a RD. But the timing is terrible. If you wait till the draft, the extra 2nd is likely not needed here. Just a terrible idea to be trading picks for players at the trade deadline when you are a team near the bottom.

More bad process.

I saw the trade earlier and shut my phone off until now. Im not sure id say I’m upset - rather very disappointed.

But why did we make this trade? I was expecting another sell off from Boeser/Miller and then I read we traded the Islanders pick AND our high second round pick.

I don’t know much about the player but geez he better be good.
