He's an RFA in 2 years and is a 25 year old 50 point RHD. You guys are ridiculous. Look at our mid first last year? Likely a bust. This isn't a win-now move, Hronek will be a stud for the next 6-8 years.
Yeah, you bought the Kool-Aid. Looking at the points column in a season Hronek was fed PP minutes. Half his points were on the man advantage. He will not get those minutes here.

Wings fans are saying they sold high. They won.

So we moved a physical, responsible RHD for a third, which is also what Gostisbehere just got, to paying two top 40 picks for a small, offensive RHD with Bear, Myers, Juulsen, Burroughs and Poolman on the right, and Hughes (!!!), OEL, Wolanin, Rathbone, Dermott, and I'm sure others that have shown an aptitude in the offensive end of the ice?

I want to get this, I want to understand whats happening, but unless we've moved Myers and OEL for a higher return than we just paid...I just....****....

Why not wait for the draft? The Islanders pick will only increase in value with Barzal out...

and this will obviously hurt the tank, wonderful

The only satisfying thing I can take from this trade, is now I can cheer on Bo again. The better the Islanders do this year, the slightly better this trade becomes.

Giving up our 2nd is absolutely brutal though, why, just why.

People saying it's all Aquilini - sure, he could be pressuring management to add to the team. He's a dog shit owner, but at the same time, he's not forcing management's hand to SPECIFICALLY target Hronek. Why are we trying to fit a square peg into a round hole?

Hronek is 100% the type of defenceman I expect this management to go for and I don’t even mean that as a criticism. Look at the D they created in Pitt when they won cups: all can skate, all can pass, so much mobility and skill. It’s great and so difficult to forecheck.

My issue here is not the player. It’s the cost.

Why trade a first round pick that was high in a deep draft, a pick you rarely get for a rental, and also add your own high second round pick? Even then, it’s very likely this pick becomes an unprotected pick in 2024 that could end up being a lottery pick given NYI old core. Hronek is fine, the price paid is not. This is Benning-level trading where you simply pay the price for the player you want, no matter what that price is. I feel stupid hoping this time would be different.

The Canucks are just on another clock right now to wait out this management group. Then, hopefully, the owner.

This is just about biding time, really. The more mistakes they make, the more the fanbase turns on them, the quicker they are out.

So the Canucks trade a 1st and 2nd round draft pick AGAIN?????
A team that has hit rock bottom and is in dire need of draft picks!
A team that has been stung in the recent past by trading draft picks!
In a season where there is a very deep draft!

Damn this regime pisses me off!!!

Since this team is all in they should be going hard after Gavrikov in the summer. Hronek really needs a stable partner. He was great when paired with Maata and awful with Chiarot.

I get the same vibes from this trade that I did from the JT Miller trade, albeit with the mitigating factors being we aren't getting cost certainty with this player and we aren't getting any sort of discount in terms of acquisition cost.

I have more questions than answers with this one, and they are all negative. I'll start off with the positive - this team needs top 4 defensemen and there is no doubt Hronek is a top 4 defenseman.

Now for the negatives.

The timing is awful. Similar deals will be available in the off-season. We are supposedly chasing college FA RHD - now they have a 25 year old guy we just paid a blue-chip price for ahead of them when 2 hours ago we had the cleanest runway in the league. Even if you sign those guys and then trade for a Hronek level at the draft that would be better than this. But past all that, this fanbase had caught ahold of a bit of "hope" here in terms of counting draft picks and looking forward to the future a bit.. and you took that all away. To what end? Why?

As for the actual player - PP guy whose points will go down here w/ Hughes, though I do think they may look to a 2D PP going forward. Not a guy that will really help the PK or can eat heavy defensive minutes.. you know, the things this team actually needs.

Just a bizarre trade in terms of timing & target. Very disheartening as a fan who has been very excited by these recent moves.

Guys, we threw in the 1st, not the 2nd. Hronek for a 2nd and no cap coming back would have made Detroit fans happy let alone this.

Just some tidbits from the Detroit boards reaction.

the return is incredible for what the Wings gave up

If someone said a year ago we'd trade Hronek for a 1st+ they'd get permabanned for trolling.

The Canucks had better have another trade in place before Friday to bring draft picks back, or this deal is almost as bad or worse than anything Benning pulled off.

I mean a potential top -15 first rounder AND your second rounder (35th overall) in deep draft for a 25-year old d-man from Detroit. I don't care how many points he has, he's undersized and not that great defensively.

Allvin and Rutherford have blown just about all the goodwill they've built up. Another draft where after the top of the first round, they won't be drafting again until the third round. Just terrible for a bad lottery team like the Canucks.

He's an RFA in 2 years and is a 25 year old 50 point RHD. You guys are ridiculous. Look at our mid first last year? Likely a bust. This isn't a win-now move, Hronek will be a stud for the next 6-8 years.

Hronek is only on pace for 52 points this season and has never flirted anywhere near 50 prior. Last season was his best at 38 in 78. While a solid enough player, he's not good defensively which is a massive weakness on our blueline. He also gets a lot of powerplay minutes, something he won't have here with Quinn being ahead of him.
