Didn't some guy in another thread propose this exact trade a few days ago?!
He’s still owed money and his contract is only partially insured at best. His salary for this season is $3M, so Vancouver will cover $600k of the pro-rated uninsured amount.Sounds like he'll be LTIR the entire season.
Eh I don't think the Kroenkes are hurting for money. He’s still owed money and his contract is only partially insured at best. His salary for this season is $3M, so Vancouver will cover $600k of the pro-rated uninsured amount.
No, but this is why the trade probably happened with Colorado and not Columbus or some other team. Colorado is basically paying $1M+ for a 4th round pick.Eh I don't think the Kroenkes are hurting for money.
I thought Poolman was going to be on LTIR for quite awhile? Cap move by the Avs?
And for the sake of my OCD sanity, please edit the title to VAN. WTF is VCR? Took awhile to read that.
Poolman only played around 40 games or so and had little effect while on the Nucks blueline. Is this type of partial insurance on a contract standard, or is this another Benning classic?
As context, the Ferland contract turned out to be uninsurable and the Canucks had to pay the entire contract out of pocket after Ferland played 13 games or something.
Eh I don't think the Kroenkes are hurting for money.
$2.4 million will be the amount the Avs take on from Poolman's 2024-25 salary of $3 million. They get rid of paying Brannstrom $900K to play in the AHL, which takes them down to $1.5 million plus the cost of someone to play in the AHL in place of Brannstrom. That will leave them spending considerably less than $2.4 million for that 4th round pick. His contract may not have been insured. Even if it was insured, the entirety of the contract is not covered. Regardless of whether a team is a budget team or not, most teams have an upper limit to what they are allowed to spend in real dollars, or they need to justify certain spending. Can we spend 2.4M to get a 4th round pick is going to be a no for a lot of teams.
And I like to add to this that between being able to pay Tyler Myers $6Mx5 in 2019 and Tucker Poolman $2.5M/4 in 2021 that in 2020 he had no cap space and couldn't afford Chris Tanev who left for a $4.5M/4 in Calgary.I remember Dhaiwal saying this was the strangest contract he has ever seen. And he has been covering free agency for awhile
Dhaliwal may suck as an insider but he knows the free-agency market and he breaks a ton of signings becuase he knows every agent as thats how he got his start.
There was literally NOBODY offering even close to what Benning gave this guy, like not even in the same universe.
The market was a 1 year deal or 2 year deal at a smaller cap at most.
when he got the text saying "Poolman $2.5".........
he responded "$1.5 Million in year 1, and $1 million in year 2?"
agent responded back saying "No, $2.5 is the AAV"
dhaliwal is like "so an overpayment on a 1 year deal at $2.5"
agent responded "$2.5 AAV x 4"
dhaliwal was like "WHAT???????"
He couldn't fathom such an idiotic contract by Benning to give a guy coming off a 1 assist season $10 million franking dollars.
This contract epitomized Benning as a GM
That's a true story of him breaking that signing and the conversation he had. He just couldn't believe it. Like nobody was offering that.
Benning just came from the top rope.
This was ranked as the worst contract by pretty much everyone in 2021.
When someone who isn't stupid does something that seems stupid, it is best to put yourself in that person's position rather than assume the person has suddenly developed dementia.Wow, Allvin just got owned by CMac. A free draft pick essentially.
I think Brannstrom gets picked up on waivers.
has a team ever noped out of a contract in preseason for a contract they signed in the same offseason?

Colorado, not Vegas. Yes, Canucks took on more real salary to achieve cap savings and to avoid LTIR.Assuming Poolman’s contract is insured, he’s owed $600k this season post-insurance.
The going rate to dump $600k is in the late 3rd to mid 4th round pick range. With Vancouver retaining 20% that brings the real dollars down to $480k, clear 4th round pick range.
Vegas added in Brannstrom’s $900k one-way contract. Everyone can make their own decision, but my impression is he’s viewed negatively this preseason. With Poolman’s $480k addition and Brannstrom’s $900k subtraction Vegas is saving $420k in real dollars while adding a 4th round pick.
Seems like great value for Vegas if they dislike Brannstrom that much.
Also a relatively cheap out for Vancouver to clear cap space, even if they end up burying Brannstrom. Would be a net gain of +$300k real dollars for Vancouver.
And Van may be confident Branstrom will be picked off waivers saving that 900 k and freeing up a contract spot.Yes, but the teams mentioned don't have Brannstrom to dump. They may or may not have a 1-way contract that can be fully buried as a proxy for retention, and Vancouver may not have wanted to retain more than 20 percent.

Word around Vancouver has been Poolman's contract is not insured. Its why the Canucks haven't moved it sooner. Generally an insured LTIR contract costs next to nothing to move. Shea Weber's contract being the most recent proof where 7.8M+ for 2 years cost a 5th while Vegas got back an AHL depth player too. The fact the Canucks had to retain 20% of a 1 year 2.5M deal and pay a 4th while taking on a 900k AHLer just confirms that.Colorado, not Vegas. If that’s the case makes sense to me.Word around Vancouver has been Poolman's contract is not insured. Its why the Canucks haven't moved it sooner. Given Poolamn's concussion history, it makes sense the Canucks couldnt get the deal insured.

Concussion issues before he came to VancouverDid Poolman have a concussion history with Winnipeg? Or is it limited to Vancouver?
Just makes that contract that much worse. Benning was so hilariously incompetent.Word around Vancouver has been Poolman's contract is not insured. Its why the Canucks haven't moved it sooner. From what I remember he had a long one with Winnipeg where it was pretty well known 1 hit and he may be doneDid Poolman have a concussion history with Winnipeg? Or is it limited to Vancouver?
