I'll ask this here: People around here talk about Brannstrom as a third pairing defenseman. He seems to be stuck there. Why is that? The way he's playing he'd be on the second pair on some teams.

I have no idea what you are talking about. This is absolute nonsense, Brannstrom was a joke in Colorado this year. Couldn't even outcompete Kylington for a spot and you want him to be a winger? Are you seriously joking fam? I lost IQ posts from this.
And the Aves lost a cheap top 4D when they gave away Brannstrom.

Good for Brannstrom if he found a good fit for his play style.

He was really abysmal for the Avs during pre-season - he just kept turning the puck over and over.

Maybe being placed on waivers lit a fire under him but he certainly lost his spot on the Avs with his awful performance during pre-season.

Another goal tonight (although it'll likely get changed to Raty).

Some nifty moves as well. His confidence is booming

Speaking as an outsider, I actually think it would make more sense to run with Pettersson-Myers and Soucy-Brannstrom. Brannstrom played primarily RD in the past and I think the mixture of those pairs complement each other extremely well.
No he didn't.

Every single time Chabot would get injured in Ottawa, a young and inexperienced Brannstrom would step in and knock it out of the park.

If you pair him with a steady defensive player you have a strong top 4 defensive and puck possession pair. It is proven.

Invaluable depth to have.

He's been our third best defenseman. Within the next week or so he's going to be bumped up to second pairing.

I cant tell if this is complimenting Brann or insulting everyone but Hughes/Hronek. Its pretty bad back there.

Both. It’s a “good for Brannstrom, bad for the Canucks” situation right now. Obviously super happy with Brannstrom and he’s found money, but the rest of the D core are shitting their pants.

Smart undersized D that makes limited mistakes and helps advance the puck up ice, but isn't someone you'd like to be playing big minutes in the playoffs, if at all.

Wouldn't surprise me if he carves out a Grzelcyk-type career.

Vancouver just seems to be able to get a lot out of Swedish players.
how quickly ppl forget about OEL and Loui Eriksson. its like draft picks, we acquire a lot of Swedish players, in the end its up to their fit.

Not on Ottawa though, we are so damn good that he was barely a 7th D-man here. That's how we understand hockey in Ottawa. Sens pro scouting has been terrible for so long

Replaced Mathieu Joseph by Mike Amadio (even paid a 3rd round pick to do so)
Replaced Brannstrom by Hamonic (I wanted to keep Brannstrom and play him on RD when no LHD is injured)
Etc.

Watch him play right now, you won’t be thinking this.

Even the last 2 seasons, it was easy to see that there was something with this player, backed by advanced metrics of course. I've been insulted so much for defending this player lol, particularly on Cap Friendly's forum.

There was 2 huge biases in Ottawa : size and the fact that he was THE return for Mark freaking Stone (that's on the GM)

I initially had Tobias Enstrom and Toery Krug as comps but eventually turned towards Grzelcyk
