To get Hunter Brzustewicz and a first for a player you weren’t going to resign is great value imo.

I’m a big fan of Hunter’s game. I know he has his critics but I think he’s a very smart player

Seems kinda steep for a guy who's pending UFA and hasn't played all that great this year.
U have to trust your scouts .to get a nhl ready player u have to pay
Now it's up to Calgary to develop players
Right now the number 1 pick is their best part of the return

Having slept on it, i like this deal even more for Canucks

- they took one of the best assets off the board away from rivals (imagine Avs w hims as #2C?)
- this frees the Garland line to get real 3rd line deployment, where they can hopefully do real damage (they had been excelling in a pseudo-2nd line role)
- from their current roster they only moved one guy, their most underperforming skater; if Lindholm is no better than this year its a big lift, if he regains form it could be electric.
- dude is a swiss army knife; RHS PK, PP, 55% on draws netfront scorer who has had selke mention in past.
- yes they paid a number of assets but he was never coming cheap and a) kept their top 3 prospects (Bryz was their #2 RHD after Willander), b) gained crucial $5.5M in cap space next year and c) they actually gained a bit of cap space this year, even while Cgy did not retain, which works for them.

Good trade for both teams

Good trade for Vancouver. Got a premium all around player for a cap dump, 2 meh prospects, a late first, and a conditional 4th.

The 1st rounder is really the only thing with meaningful value IMO. Brusty might become a player but nothing special IMO.
Eh. This is about all Lindholm was worth with how he was playing.

Yeah. I don’t think it was a crazy overpay like some people. My hope is that the Flames get one top 6/top 4 player between the picks and Hunter and that is probably a stretch

This is what you offered for Lindholm

2024 1st + Sean Behrens (LHD at Univ of Denver) + Oskar Olausson + 2026 2nd round pick + RyJo for Lindholm
Which is why they took your offer. Vancouver had more to offer and did.

it was a full price you paid but not outrageous in my mind. A fair trade on its face.

im glad the Avs didn’t pay Calgary’s asking price like the Canucks did and I’m glad he didn’t land in Peg (or Dallas). This one should bother oilers fans most. Y'all smoked them without this player.

I wish he’d gone to the East. Congratulations on adding the best known available rental. A legit 2C and PK weapon. I’ll congratulate myself for the Avs still owning Ritchie‘s rights.

Lindholm has struggled playing with less impressive players than Kuzmenko. Lindholm should get an opportunity to play alongside EP and at the very least, is a much better defensive player than Kuzmenko.

And yes, Brzustewicz is a good prospect and probably has an NHL future but will he be a Clendenning or …?
Or Tanev.

And Brzustewicz started the season and has become one of the OHL leading scorers. It's half a season, and the true quality of the KHL is certainly in some degree of question these days. It's too little for either guy to be massively adjusted in their projection, or have put to bed their respective questionmarks about how they'll translate to the NHL level. They're both still just "B Prospects".

Ritchie i'll give the benefit of the doubt to as an "A Prospect", but again...that's largely because i viewed him that way prior to the draft. He's simply done nothing this season but vindicate that. But for a lot of other teams that had him rated less highly at the draft...he's probably still closer to a "B Prospect" despite having a strong season.

Teams don't tend to have as volatile and kneejerk "what have you done for me lately" approaches to prospects that are a multi-year investment with all sorts of inevitable fluctuations up and down along the way. A lot of the real "adjustment" to trajectory comes when they go to make that jump to the AHL/NHL. That starts to narrow the cone of realistic projectable outcomes pretty significantly. But none of these guys are anywhere near that point yet. It's been half a season.
When as an 18 year old.. in a men’s league that’s the second best one in the world, you start the season as a fringe roster player and perform so well you elevate yourself from the 7D playing 7 minutes a game to the 3D playing 19 per. You're on the 2nd pair, you get tapped on the shoulder for 100% of your teams games.... and you’re still just 18 years old playing defense.

You're on the number 1 team in your conference... you’re having a great growth season and you’re a core player being developed on another club's dime and time. A good team no less.

I'm 100% certain the Avs are thrilled with what’s happening with Gulyayev.

and yes… world class speed. Unreal acceleration. And speed never has an off day. That’s certainly a skill that translates to the NHL. His coach clearly trusts him so he’s doing many other hockey things right too. He’s got a nice +/- rating as well.

It's early still but it looks like the Avs may have crushed the first round of the 2023 draft. It was thought to be an excellent draft going in and still appears that way today. There were some other guys taken late in round 1 also thriving post draft. Like Toronto, San Jose and a few other picks in that area of the draft.

If Gulyayev continues to get this amount of ice time and attention from his KHL club, he’s a guy the Avs bring over in 2.5 years (that's how long his current contract runs) and drop directly into their top 4 at age 21.

This is exactly what a A prospect is doing / how he develops in his post draft season. I'm happy for this Brzustewicz kid and the Flames for getting him. He's having a fine season in Jr. But to compare the WHL to KHL is not apples to apples.

Pulling an Elliotte here, but I wonder if Sharangovich slots back into center now.

Huberdeau - Govy - Kuzmenko could be fun to watch, offensively at least. I doubt it though, they'd probably get caved in.
I'd like to see Zary given a shot at center. I don't think we want to play both Huberdeau and Kuzmenko on the same line. Need someone with the ability to skate

a kings ransom for lindholm, a player who struggled without being carried by johnny and tkachuk lol. At least huberdeau has someone new to pass the puck to...

Yeah he didn't do Calgary any favors. Kinda feel bad for him, one minute he's centering the best line in hockey and then poof both of his wingers disappear. The next season, he gets a new linemate, who scores 34g 73p, and then they promptly
trade him away (which was the right move).

I almost don't blame him for not playing his best, though it can't help that he's only shooting at 6.9%, roughly half of his average since becoming a Flame. And even with his struggles he's still very easily worth his cap hit.

I'd expect to see a rejuvenated Lindholm in Vancouver.

Lindholm was pretty good last year without those two. With average shooting luck he'd be around 40 points. But obviously playing with 2 elite playmaking wingers is going to elevate anyone.

Great trade for both teams.

Sends a clear message from Canucks management that we are trying to make a run and that the management is aware of the holes in the roster.

Flames management tells fans that they're packing it up and looking forward to the future.

Great trade

Lindholm is a 60 point solid two way center. No one expects him to be a 90 point #1 center. Even this year, with the Flames top line being a tire fire, he was on pace for 54 points.

He's a very high end second line center that can play #1 RW. Very valuable for a competing team.

Heck, he's a 1C if given some talent to play with. But his play driving ability is only average.
