He was the guy I really wanted to get from Vancouver. Their fans undervalue him.
He's followed pretty closely on our board, and plenty of people have him in our top 5 prospects. He just isn't likely to contribute any time soon, and so we'd much rather keep the guys that can step in and fill out our depth sooner than later (Lekkerimaki, Willander, Podkolzin, Hog).

He's very skilled, but he also only cost us a 3rd like 6 months ago so value-wise it seems solid. If the Flames are patient with him it'll pay off for them imo.

If Conroy just got this for Lindholm, who’s having a down year, I would much prefer to have whatever he can get for Hanifin rather than Hanifin himself.

Would not be surprised if the Devils make a pitch for him + Markstrom and as a Devils fan who doesn't think they'll make it I would prefer to stay away from that as well lol

You could make a pretty decent argument this haul is better than what Horvat got
I don't think you can. The first we got for Horvat is worth a lot more than the first we gave up. Islanders were out of a playoff spot and we're first in the league. A pick that was looking to be top 15 vs 27+ is a huge difference in value. Raty + Beau is close to Kuzmenko + Bru and the 4th + Jurmo don't make up the difference in the first.

Man, the Canucks are getting an extra free month (ahead of the deadline) of the player too...

This is so bad for Calgary. How do you not wait until closer to the actual deadline if this is the best offer you're getting? Conroy must genuinely believe Kuzmenko is an asset and not a liability which is scary.

Not sure I agree. The first round pick was much better in a much deeper draft. Kuzmenko is a higher cap hit to Beau. Brz and the 4th and Raty are the difference in value here. Jurmo is a nothing player.

If Calgary is smart, they'll make good of getting Kuzmenko at his lowest value and trade him again after playing in their top 6. They can also eat his cap hit again and make it at 50% which every team would be all over.

i love this trade! canucks may have best top 9 in west with lindholm they have a goalie who can steal a series. they may well be best team in west in the end. and calgary got full value here. they weren't resinging him and they got in addition to the obligatory 1st and raondo prospect, a high risk prospect with nice upside and reclamation project in kuzmenko they can potentially rehabilitate value on and flip for more assets. everybody wins! until canucks get knocked out by a wild card team and the ohl legend prospect flops. either way, so much fun for the rest of us! i love this trade!!!

Screw the remainder of the season! Just give the Canucks the President’s Trophy, Clarence Campbell Bowl, Stanley Cup and one of their players the Conn Smythe.

Nobody’s beating them. There’s nothing left to see here!!!!!!

Well, if you look at the deal individually sure

But we got Hronek from that 1st round pick so...no complain here

The Islanders were also not a lock to make the playoffs as well so the 1st was around the 12-18 range when it was moved, that's why it was top 10 protected. That first would be the 1st from Vancouver which is currently anywhere from 28-32 would require a lot more to move up to where the Islander pick was. Would be at least a 3rd rounder and likely a late second. Seeing how Brzustewicz was a 3rd rounder who has improved his stock. It probably means Islander 1st = Brzustewicz + Vancouver 1st.

Granted, I'm not thrilled with parting with both, but I can sort of understand it better that way.

It's very expensive for Vancouver if it's a pure rental. I think it's fair if they manage to re-sign Lindholm.

People calling this a "haul" for CGY clearly don't follow the Canucks or their system. The only value CGY got here was the 1st. Which is projecting to be a very late 27-32 range pick. The rest are throw ins. This was the very definition of quantity over quality for CGY. But the optics they will spin from a PR stand point for people who don't know anything about the players. I think CGY could have done better and almost certainly would have if they'd waited.
Lol ok

Miller - Pettersson - Boeser
Hoglander - Lindholm - Mikheyev
Joshua - Blueger - Garland
Aman - Suter - Lafferty

that's crazy depth thicc down the middle.

That’s a bunch for Lindholm as a rental. People here were saying a rental Guentzel wouldn’t even get this much.

Um, it's by far better

Is it?

Kuzmenko > Beauvillier
VAN 1st << NYI 1st
Brzustewicz = Raty

You could argue Brz > Raty but Raty had already played NHL games.

Kuz is a better player than Beauvillier for sure (that could be a great get for CGY).

But the 1st Van got was way more valuable, it was middle of the 1st & had potential to be a lottery pick the following year.
