While this is true, Futa and Blake aren't as mentally wrecked as Dean is. Lombardi has taken the entire year of mistakes by players personally and maybe it's clouding his own judgement in running the team.

This is what baffles me about the Lucic trade, though. You're wrecked by your team's off ice behavior and moral choices...so you trade for Milan Lucic? A guy with his own unpredictable history and alleged locker room issues? The ****?

I would have expected Dean to hold tight to a guy like Williams, or even better, do everything he could to get Mitchell back on the team. Trading for Lucic makes zero sense now knowing how emotionally barren this past year has made Dean.

Sutter: "If there is no sense of urgency in the top guys, they won't be productive".

??????

Sutter took this urge away a long time ago.
I absolutely think they do it on purpose though.

Actually what does it need for you guys to get that Sutter is not the right person for our club ???

You think the players do it on purpose, and you support them over the coach?

You get about 30 regulation losses before you get to the point where you start slipping from the race. The Kings actually had fewer regulation losses last year than Chicago, NYI, Minnesota, Vancouver, and Calgary, and only 5 more than the league leaders. They just of course couldn't score a goal in the SO, or even OT, to save their season.

They haven't even hit the road yet though. There's no extended road trip until mid November.

yep i second that

that group is bad, but not that bad

they are not putting any effort in whatsoever

i guess Brown has to because he's the captain, the rest of the team doesn't give a f about Darryl's system

but what's Lucic's excuse? he just plain sucks

Trade Bailey

Now, let's not be hasty. Bailey has the skill. He just has developed some bad habits, which have led to breakdowns, which have led to a loss of confidence. Bailey just has to get back to fundamentals. Keep it simple. Review video of plays that worked. The effort is there. He'll get through this adversity. Bailey has the heart of a lion.

Don't give up on Bailey.

That makes things easier - start shipping out roster players. They already got one coach fired, won't happen again.

Somehow they got tired of playing Sutter's "system" so they will pout, complain, and not show up? That will end badly for them.

I'm not attached to Sutter for the long haul and wouldn't be shocked to see him retire after this season, but you can't have players calling the shots. Especially the same players that annually disappear for long stretches, just missed the playoffs, and already had TM fired (which by all accounts was very difficult for Dean to do).

This core has expired and their initial goal was met - they won two Stanley Cups. Very few cores will ever do that. Time to move on.

Its not what you support its what you can do to fix it.

When was it that the players chose to not listen to Sutter? A few years ago when Kopitar, Brown, and Doughty went MIA in the 2013 playoffs? Was it during that stretch in Jan/Feb of 2014, when they went 6 games with 3 total goals, all from Kopitar? Was it later that same year when after finishing with the lowest goals against in the league(mostly because of Jones and Scrivens when Quick was hurt), they did what they did in Games 1 and 2 against SJ? Was it in Game 4 of that series when they said screw Sutter, we're actually going to show up tonight? Was it last season, when they played poorly to start the year, only to be saved by Quick stopping every shot for the first few games, and the 70's averaging 2 goals per game?

Is Sutter so bad that he tells the players to not go to the net and stand around? Is there a coach anywhere that would ever say something like that? Go to the net and move your feet are the most basic things in hockey. Every coach is going to say that exact same thing. As well as play solid defense, be strong along the boards, and make a good first pass. Maybe that's why every player gets tired of every coach. They all say the same things, because there are only so many ways to play hockey.

A picture says a lot.

Add in a team shooting percentage of <1% at even-strength. (Per JL)

Yep, there is absolutely nothing threatening about the Kings. The Kings players seem perfectly happy staying on the perimeter and trying to bomb shots through a sea of bodies that would end-up going wide anyways. Nobody wants to pay what it costs to go to the scoring areas. This looks like a team full of guys who are satisfied with what they have accomplished in the past and simply no longer have the drive

The best thing about the Kings the last few years (before last season) is that they played like hungry rottweilers off their leash. Even when they lost they'd post 50 shots. There's no intensity anymore. What was the final shot total last night? Had to be right around 12-15. Pathetic.

This team has checked out. Time to move on. The sooner the difficult decisions are made, the sooner we can get back to contending. The worst thing you can be is a fringe playoff team.

Canucks fan here saying I doubt that the kings miss the playoffs. Season is an 82 game stretch, not just 3. Some of y'all give up hope way too quick. It's too big of an anomaly to happen 2 straight seasons.

Yup. We've been spoiled rotten by the recent championships. :shakehead

I'm not gonna really worry unless we go the entire October without at least a point or at least looking like we're trying.

If this happens, the Kings are DONE. 0 points in 1 month? That should be the green light to make serious roster changes.

I think Dean would step down before firing Sutter.

I agree. I don't think Dean is in a good headspace right now and I wont be surprised if he steps down. I also think we are lacking in leadership big time right now. Williams was one of the last big leaders on this team with his "don't give up on me, boys" speeches.
