Drew Doughty urging the leaders to step up, but curiously identifies them as 'they'
not 'we'''
He is the heart and soul of this team, it's living pulse. He is a large part of the 'they' group.
I'd like to call a mulligan. It's obvious that the players aren't aware what days are game days. The surf has been good, the water is still warm and the weather has been Africa hot. I say they ask for a Do-over.
Remember all the comments about building a decade long playoff team, not just having a few good years then collapsing like TB, Boston and Carolina after they won. About still building from within and not making shortsighted trades?
Gotta say, not happy about reading that. Not only does it imply that he isn't in that group that "haven't been playing their best", it also implies a distance between him and the leaders of this team of which he's supposed to be a member.
Take some ownership yourself, kid. If you want to be considered among the best in the world how about you start playing like you are.
"A lot of us, I guess, are still kind of young in the league, but on this team, we’re kind of old because we have a young team, so we need those guys to step up to the plate".
Last time we had a big el nino was 97...

Since it's Doughty, I wouldn't write too much into it. I would be surprised if he didn't think he was part of that group, he wore an A for a lot of preseason games and he is on the leadership committee this year.

First he says us, then "those guys". I think this is just how he talks.
Yeah, this El Niño is "too big to fail", yet here we are with 92 degrees on October 14th...
We need to stick together as a board. Except they, they can go away. You know who you are.
I see how it is.
You think the players do it on purpose, and you support them over the coach?
It's 92 degrees because of the warm water that is bringing El Nino.
That makes things easier - start shipping out roster players. They already got one coach fired, won't happen again.
Somehow they got tired of playing Sutter's "system" so they will pout, complain, and not show up? That will end badly for them.
I'm not attached to Sutter for the long haul and wouldn't be shocked to see him retire after this season, but you can't have players calling the shots. Especially the same players that annually disappear for long stretches, just missed the playoffs, and already had TM fired (which by all accounts was very difficult for Dean to do).
This core has expired and their initial goal was met - they won two Stanley Cups. Very few cores will ever do that. Time to move on.
Some of the comments I'm reading in this thread are ludicrous. Trade Doughty? Lunacy.
If the team continues to play this way, then I think you have to consider a coaching change before anything else. I LOVE Sutter, but his coaching style may have an expiration date. Sometimes you just need a change of voice.
It's only been 3 games, hopefully they turn things around.
GDT prediction - "I can't believe kingsholygrail went to this game."
