Drew Doughty urging the leaders to step up, but curiously identifies them as 'they'
not 'we'''
He is the heart and soul of this team, it's living pulse. He is a large part of the 'they' group.

Gotta say, not happy about reading that. Not only does it imply that he isn't in that group that "haven't been playing their best", it also implies a distance between him and the leaders of this team of which he's supposed to be a member.

Take some ownership yourself, kid. If you want to be considered among the best in the world how about you start playing like you are.

I'd like to call a mulligan. It's obvious that the players aren't aware what days are game days. The surf has been good, the water is still warm and the weather has been Africa hot. I say they ask for a Do-over.

I'd be distracted too if the surf has been good. Holy crap has it been good. Caught a bomb the other day.

Remember all the comments about building a decade long playoff team, not just having a few good years then collapsing like TB, Boston and Carolina after they won. About still building from within and not making shortsighted trades?

It's a great ideal, but it's not that realistic. It's like saying I'm going to a build a team that will win multiple Cups. If things work out that way, great, but, other stuff happens.

I still find it funny how Lombardi was said to be too married to prospects and picks to get a team over the top when he got the Kings job. Now after winning a couple Cups, he doesn't hold onto enough prospects and picks.

It's a 30 team league, with a cap, and free agency at a younger age than ever. You either have the cake or eat it.

Since it's Doughty, I wouldn't write too much into it. I would be surprised if he didn't think he was part of that group, he wore an A for a lot of preseason games and he is on the leadership committee this year.

"A lot of us, I guess, are still kind of young in the league, but on this team, we’re kind of old because we have a young team, so we need those guys to step up to the plate".

First he says us, then "those guys". I think this is just how he talks. :)

Yeah, this El Niño is "too big to fail", yet here we are with 92 degrees on October 14th...

Yeah, I wouldn't read that much into it. Seems like he's just being a dumb hockey player. Let's face it, these guys by and large are not Rhodes Scholars.

The Kings are playing like Rocky when he ran on the beach with Apollo the first time. When they play I can hear the sad music. What's the matter with you!?

That makes things easier - start shipping out roster players. They already got one coach fired, won't happen again.

Somehow they got tired of playing Sutter's "system" so they will pout, complain, and not show up? That will end badly for them.

I'm not attached to Sutter for the long haul and wouldn't be shocked to see him retire after this season, but you can't have players calling the shots. Especially the same players that annually disappear for long stretches, just missed the playoffs, and already had TM fired (which by all accounts was very difficult for Dean to do).

This core has expired and their initial goal was met - they won two Stanley Cups. Very few cores will ever do that. Time to move on.

And how many roster player can we ship out until the owner asks ugly questions if i may ask ????

BTW they are not tired of Sutters style only. He copies and "improves" Murrays style. This combined is going on 8 years or something.

I guess we all remember what magically happened after Murray was fired and before Sutter settled in.
Right, the best hockey the Kings played ever.
Flashy offense combined with brutal defense and insane mobility.

So the solution is easy. Get rid of "NHL hockey 79" and stop bringing in Ogres instead hockey players.
A fresh new coaching style by an unknown young coach would be something i support

Some of the comments I'm reading in this thread are ludicrous. Trade Doughty? Lunacy.

If the team continues to play this way, then I think you have to consider a coaching change before anything else. I LOVE Sutter, but his coaching style may have an expiration date. Sometimes you just need a change of voice.

It's only been 3 games, hopefully they turn things around.

you mean 82+3 games ?

Fire Sutter, hire Babcock, fire Lombardi, hire Scotty Bowman, sign Kopitar to a 4 year/2 million per contr

*controller disconnected*

Well, my brother texted me and said straight up "I don't want to go to the game on Friday. You wanna go?"

So, I'm going in the hopes that somehow my attendance will bring the magic back for the team.
