His dad says he needs to play and blames Nurse for not doing it now that Kyle isn't around to hound him about it.

Ok, sure. Nurse has a problem with sticking to his tight rotation of trusted guys. We see it in how he is going to ride Fred into the ground this season and has a rotation of maybe 7 guys he trusts with regularity.

But.....

Flynn is firing bricks this season. And that's supposed to be his bankable skill.
In 231 minutes across 27 games he's shooting .429 from 2-point range and .273 from deep
in 99 minutes in the G League across 3 starts he's shooting .348 from 2pt range and .267 from deep.

Over half of his FGAs come from 3-point range where he's been awful. The next biggest bucket is the much-derided mid-range shot (16 feet out to the 3p line) where he's actually shooting even worse.

By several advanced metrics he's the worst guy on the team who's still in the org (so discounting some of the hardship signings and Sam Dekker) and not hurt (David Johnson). The only guy who comes close to being as bad as him is Banton. But Banton is also a freshly drafted 2nd rounder who is known to be a project and who wasn't chosen to do the one thing he can't do right now.

Should Flynn play more to help figure out if he has potential future utility? Probably, if the team is willing to concede that the playoffs or play-in tournament are a pipe dream and accept that they're gonna lose a fair amount of games. But as long as they want to be competitive they're not going to have a place for an undersized PG who can't shoot and seems to be a total black hole offensively.

Obviously the guy's dad is going to stick up for him, but let's not pretend that Nick Nurse is out there intentionally screwing over a player for petty, silly reasons. He's paid to get this team to win and I have not seen one compelling case that Malachi Flynn as he is right now helps the Raptors achieve that goal.

Well, this is ugly. Healthy team outside of Birch and got absolutely destroyed by a Dame-less Portland

Could be wrong here but Nurse will utilize his bench if it’s good but there have been quite a few players that have been playing awful off of the bench, Flynn being one of them.

Not a good enough team. When Boucher is one of your main shooters late in game, you have problems.

All of my friends are hoping we make the playoffs this year, they get angry when I say I hope we go on a ten game losing streak and get comforotably back in the lottery.

Yes, it would be fun to have the excitement of some playoff basketball, but there is very little chance this team would make it out of the first round.

If this off-season we can get another top 10 pick, sort out our starting C situation and bring in a few competent bench players (may be partially solved via the top 10 pick and having Khem be a full bench big), I'll be all aboard the try to win now train next year.

Even if that happens, we won't be among the favourites, but at least we might have a team I would believe has some realistic chance (albeit small) at making a deep run.

Who should we be targeting if we got a top 10 pick anyways?

Have to say I am mostly a hockey fan but making the switch tonight after a dismal Leafs two periods. The Raps were entertaining through 3 quarters. They appear to have very good work ethic.

I know the bench isn't good but Nurse has to play it more IMO.
People keep saying this but Nurse went with a 7 man rotation for most of their championship run…this is nothing new for him. OG would have been 8 if he wasn’t hurt most of that season.

edit…sorry it was an 8 man rotation and OG would have been 9. My mistake.

I could be wrong but during the season he was using his bench a lot more than he is now. Also had Kawhi maintenance days. This team is in a lot different position than the 2019 team.

Bench was outscored by almost 30 today I believe. Hard to play them if that keeps happening.

fred looks injured still, most of the starters have been banged up already this year. everyone is gassed, hard not to expect more injuries with these type of difficult minutes. regardless of how bad the bench has been this formula wont hold out all year, even if we make the playoffs these guys are gonna be hobbling around for the when the game actually gets physical in the post season imo.

if this team thinks its a contender, cool, go out and get a few players that can help. if not, then play the young guys more. but figure it out, and soon plz lol

edit-sidenote: barnes played 595 minutes in college last year. hes now over 1400 so far this year in a more difficult, physical league. i cant imagine how tiring this must be for him lol.

Shortening your bench is the playoffs is expected, having no bench less than halfway through a season is insane. There is no excuse for not giving minutes to Watanabe/Svi on top of Boucher and Precious. Nurse is a bit of a clown
