Post-Game Talk: Utterly Rittich-ulous Leafs Lose 6-3

It's hockey and things all play together, but you look at this series and goaltending was a huge issue. Take Holtby out and just look at the goals allowed.

We allowed 8 goals by our goaltenders. 5 of them were just outright weak. Not "would have been nice to get a save" type goals or "goalies stop the majority" but routine save type goals.


Still we weren't good tonight and I'm real sick of Marner and Matthews mailing it in whenever they want a week off.

Can't disagree with what you said.

When the Leafs had a 3-2 lead, it felt like they might have escaped with 2 sort of undeserved points after a very inconsistent effort to start the game. But in this case Rittich and Skilliter teamed up to more than give it away.

Marner is so brutal. Matthews has his own issues like over holding the puck (to the point of exiting the zone on a 6 on 5 EN situation, to give you an idea of where his head is) but Marner is just bad decision after bad decision like he's getting paid $11 million to play street hockey. Total lack of professionalism.

I’m not someone who holds on to the past, so for me it would shock me because Vancouver has to win 17 games to even make it into the playoffs that ain’t happening.

I also mentioned that they will have great come back but at the end of the day, it won’t matter.

Championships teams don’t like losing and never okay to lose, just can’t say the same thing about this time. They will show urgency once in a full moon and fans will think, they finally got it but the next game, it will be NOTHING.
That playin series was a perfect reflection of this team.

I mentioned this yesterday, most of the team was asymptomatic. Very few had symptoms, this has already been reported. They’ve also been practicing for 5 days to a week before this game. And were likely working out at home, these guys were well rested not fatigued. The guys hardest hit by Covid are not in the lineup

Agree. it seems like the core is running some high end anti-virus that no one has been able to penetrate. Last chance for this team to change their ways for this season comes with Mr. Foligno joining the group (tomorrow I would expect).

As poorly as I feel they have played (eye test not advanced stats), shitty goaltending has hurt... but even a bad team finds a way to win a few games despite that.

Where were these hits? All I saw was a bunch of wimps play like wimps..... and they do it over and over again.
The problem is leafs fans have gotten used to it. We are the windiest team in the league without a shadow of a doubt..... but at least we have more hits on the stat sheet then the Canucks. I wonder where we rank on the season

I agree. You can’t say we’re not winning shit because of our bottom six when guys like Engvall, Brooks, and Thornton will be on the outside looking in.

.839 SV% in the last 6 games despite outshooting and outchancing each team. You’re not winning any games with goaltending like that.

Both Campbell and Rittich owe the team a standout performance.

Winners own bad performances and make amends. They each should get a start in the next few games. The one who shows he's a winner you ride him the rest of the way. If they both shit the bed you can take solace you never really had a chance anyway.
