I think Burrow was talking about buying the Sens out of bankruptcy, when there were no other offers for the team.
The team was likely gone otherwise.

There were no other offers because he said he'd beat any other offers. Remember at the time he was still crazy rich instead of just crazy. Bryden was working on a group to retake control of the franchise before Melnyk came along.

Fair, you do you. I just don't think super wealthy people making investments with excellent returns are heroes. It was a solid piece of business on his part. At least his threats to move went nowhere.
I didn’t say he was hero. But he did allow a whole generation to keep their Sens. He did an objectively good thing for me and Sens fans my age. He made money in the process. Everyone makes money people are making money as we speak. I’m making money right now.

He was owner and he passed away he’s gonna have some sort of dedicated part of ctc lol. Would be wierd if he didn’t

Well, I am definitely down for some EM urinal cakes.

I would certainly like to make that same investment and leave my kids a billion dollars. So hating him for it would make me a hypocrite

Dont think anyone is mad he made money, I think while he wa snaking hundreds of millions off this community he was saying it wasn’t enough and that the fans and the city was crap.

I’d rather die with a good reputation and respect and $100 to my name than die with a horrible reputation and no respect and $100 000 000.

His name still has lots of respect from those who actually knew him. ;)

Right the old ‘how can you judge him if you did t really know him’ line.

I knew the public man and he made sure he was as public as he could get. He made sure Ottawa knew how he felt and how bitter he truest was.

I judge my opinions of him off of what he said, what others have said, and what I hear. Haven’t heard anyone really say anything good about him from my chair.

How do you even know what? You get invited to family dinners.

This is just a line you’re using because you got nothing nice to say about him

"Of all people, Melnyk knows how difficult it can be to make a buck off hockey, even in Canada, even pre-COVID. The running joke around the nation’s capital last spring was not to fret too much about the season being interrupted: Ottawa fans had been practising physical distancing from the Senators for years."

I love these propaganda pieces.

Kind of comical when his initial investment was a little over 100 mil and sold for 950 mil, even if he lost 10 mil every single year (he didn't) that's quite the return.

Won’t know when you’re dead. And generations will enjoy the 100 million more than the 100 dollars. But alas. This is a hockey board

I would not take the banner down.

Has there been any indicator on a plan from ownership or management?

Have they confirmed we're selling?

Is their goal to make the playoffs next year?

Or are they still quietly evaluating everything and putting moved on hold?

I haven't really heard anything about the direction were going.

He did say he wanted vets though. That's all I got.

Did he build some hospital somewhere that I did not see? Did he make some multi million dollar donation to CHEO or other that I did not hear about?

He did, but did become cheap, as time went on with Sens, that’s for sure.

Spent 2-3 million to bring the Eagles for STH (enjoyed that).
Donated to Roger’s House.
Millions in Medicine to Ukrainian orphans.
Donated $5 million to St. Joseph's Health Centre in Toronto.
Donated $1 million to launch the foundation "Patrons of Sport" with Canadian Athletes Now Fund
Donated $1 million to the Belmont Child Care Association for the construction of a child care center at Belmont park.
Donated $1.8 million to St. Michaels to upgrade the field with new state-of-the-art artificial grass, stadium lights, sound system, and an electronic scoreboard.
