Amongst the five kingpins & their lawyer(John Sedgewick), Trevor Timmins the only non-NHL player, Marc Bergevin & Larry Carriere both veteran NHL defencemen, then two veteran NHL PWF's of note, Rick Dudley & Scott Mellanby the Habs front office personnel represent a distinct NHL veteran presence. All very well known for their competitive spirits as players, for those fans that would recognize these names instantly for their competitive fierceness and team first ethics throughout their careers. The Habs are well represented in each area of hockey, through junior leagues, minor pro worldwide, as well as in every pro league European or NA. The Habs scouts are recognized as the cream of talent evaluation in hockey, wherever they surface as seen by Sekac's signing last season as well as Carr's from the NCAA. Very little of hockey's talent can elude the watching eyes the Habs have under the Bergevin regime, a fact noticed when he first became GM, the scouting team was rebuilt first with Rick Dudley becoming their Pro Scout and Asst.GM alongside a beefing up of top name scouts. No worries about the Habs missing out on any front to do with hockey talent, their fingerprints will be there checking out each detail thoroughly, with a staff that's known well for their 24/7 work ethic nothing worthy will go unnoticed, of that I'm positive.

It's my feeling that Jagr was never signed by the Habs after his return for non-hockey issues - meaning business issues. I feel they may have made a significant offer and his agent pulled a fast one.

Not a rumour at all. Just my gut feeling.

I didnt say the best, i said some of the best ive seen. Theyre sharp, a beauty of a fit and original as hell. I get bored of seeing the same old bland suits all over town and on tv. They stand out and look really good.

Disagree. To me it looks like he's trying too hard.

Lacks elegance appropriate with his age.

I am not sure why Mike Reilly would sign here.

Tinordi is our 8th dman, Montreal's defense corps is a difficult one to crack.

How good would he be?

He def has a sense of style...although some of his suits scream "Le Chateau" to me, which isn't a compliment lol. For the most part, his suits represent his eccentric personality and really, that's what you wan out of your suits, for them to represent your personality.

Anyways...not sure how necessary it is for Bergevin to go meet Reilly in person, Bergevin has strong ties with Reilly's agent, Pat Brisson. I'm sure if overtures have to be made, they'll be made through him

We'll likely have to move a defenceman after signing Petry. Would make a lot of sense if Emelin is traded. Would leave an open spot for a LH defenceman.

Emelin and Reilly are completely different types of players. Reilly is closer to a Bealieu/Markov type of player.... so no, it wouldn't make sense. You would still have to replace Emelin with another physical defenseman which the team sorely lacks.

If Tinordi/Emelin/Gilbert is a part of a package to bring in a forward or move up in the draft then it makes a whole lot more sense.

who knows what moves they have planned, and it's very hard to guess how good Reilly will be going from the NCAA to the NHL (since I assume a team will get him by saying he will get a certain amount of NHL ice time next year) But he has racked up the points at Minnesota, so if say he were to sign here he would easily be our best D prospect and likely one of our top 3 or 4 prospects overall. All the talk I heard was he wants to sign with the Hawks but some players at the WC's told him not to rush things since he's in the drivers seat and to weigh his options carefully or something to that effect.

+ we could basically offer him a spot besides Subban. Our LHD depth is terribad after Beaulieu and Tinner.

How would it make a lot of sense to leave the team with just 2 NHL left handed d-men in Markov and Beaulieu?

I don't see it as Subban plays way too much for a rookie to just jump in unless he was lights out. If we were a team like the canes, oilers or sabers then I could see it since it wouldn't matter how he does but hopefully we are a top team in the league again next year and while perhaps he could move up the pairings for us if things work out really well for him but there's a lot of big ifs going on.

The goal would be to give Markov less ice time.

It would be a compete with a #4-6 spot with Beaulieu and reilly.

But in the future a core of those two about and Subban and Petry would be amazing.

It's true that the two teams still alive are relying on their big physical defensemen.

I understand wanting to cut Markov's ice time, just think they need to do it by cutting his PK time as much as possible. He's just way too important to what he brings in the regular season, would be very surprised if Reilly could handle that role. It would be interesting to see how he would do here since we need LD's, but they need to be smart about it, I want to win now more then worry about our future core.

Indeed.

That is why he could play at #4 while Markov is still here and maybe step up to a top pairing once he really declines or isnt here anymore.

There's nothing that says Reilly is even NHL ready yet, let alone a top pairing defenceman.

Did you read what I posted ?

I said in like 2 + years.

Where was Beaulieu back then ? Think about it.

You didn't specifically say two years and even expecting him to be a #4 next season is a little much.

Where was Beaulieu back then? last season he was in the NHL as a third pairing D, after paying his dues in the AHL.

If we can get Reilly, it's a no brainer imo.

Why wouldn't you sign a highly sought after dman if he's interested.
If he doesn't pan out, you know there's a market for him.

Lots of guys from the NCAA stepped right in.

Stepping into a top 4 role isn't that much of a stretch

Pens sign Ty Loeny, Didier's teammate at Denver to an AHL contract, a nice pickup for them.

not right from the NCAA and into the top 4 is a big stretch, not saying Reilly won't or can't but to do so and do it well is a lot to ask.

DEKEYSER, SCHULTZ and Sustr all did it with various levels of success.
