I see UNB dropped the two exhibition games over Xmas. They will probably just have the Pete Kelly Cup in the Fall since they are already playing TMU back to back.

Fall trip to the US in the works?

Simon Pinard to the AHL on a 2 year deal for him:

Great deal for him, about as as could expect even if stayed the duration at UNB? Unexpected - good for Simon, great kid! We will miss him; but I am sure we will find a solid replacement.

Yeah, I guess I was just kind of surprised at the timing. (mid-Summer)

If a guy gets offered a one-way AHL contract, then he takes it. I think it's great when CIS guys get the call. It doesn't happen too often.

Agreed , this sucks as a UNB fan but as a CIS fan and someone who wishes more people would pay attention ,it is a win when a guy signs an AHL deal or in one of the top European leagues .

As for Pete Kelly Cup - it was originally played as the 'Christmas' event as they would have the Fall Classic in September. When the AUS set a 6-game limit on exhibition games, that killed the Fall Classic. Four games in the Fall (two in the US and potentially two in Ontario/Quebec or locally as 1-and-1) left no more games for the Fall Classic (if you still wanted the Pete Kelly at Christmas).

Last season, the Pete Kelly moved to the Fall because things were busy at Christmas (FISU preparations, WJC in Moncton/Halifax).

This season - the two double-headers consume 4 games and the single on PEI seems odd and leaves you only one game at Christmas. The opponent would likely want to play more than 1 game if they're coming downeast so it UNB can't find a dance partner for the guest - it becomes a tough sell.

The best arrangement would be to bus on the 27thm, play on the 28th-29th and return on the 30th. It may still happen - like Lethbridge in 2019.

I don't like the cap on exhibition games but I'm ok with no Pete Kelly at Christmas. Let the players have the Xmas break off.

I always feel like I can’t not go to the UNB game but I’d rather be at home watching the world juniors , so I’m cool with this

Updated look at how the roster is shaping up:

GONE (3 D + 3 F)
D - Noah Carroll
D - Connor Hall
D - Ross MacDougall
F - Thomas Casey
F - Ryan Roth
F - Simon Pinard

ELIGIBLE TO RETURN (3 G + 6 D + 12 F)
G - Samuel Richard
G - Griffen Outhouse
G - Tanner Somers
D - Adam McCormick
D - Kade Landry
D - Kale McCallum
D - Colton Kammerer
D - Justin Nolet
D - Chris McQuaid
F - Austen Keating
F - Benjamin Corbeil
F - Cody Morgan
F - Jason Willms
F - Brady Gilmour
F - Macauley Carson
F - Nick Blagden
F - Camaryn Baber
F - Emmett Sproule
F - Cole MacKay
F - Michael Petizian
F - Isaac Nurse

RUMOURED RECRUITS (1 D + 2 F)
D - Samuel McGinley (signed LOI)
F - Sean McGurn
F - Peter Reynolds (haven't heard anything all summer regarding his future, has one year of CHL eligibility remaining so wouldn't be shocked to see him return to SJ or be traded to a contender)

- Roster cap is set at 24 skaters and right now it appears they have 18 skaters returning + McGinley/McGurn as definite recruits. This gives them 13 F + 7 D with four more spots available.
- Again, expect to see them leave at least one spot open for Christmas like usual. Keep in mind they have entered previous seasons with more than one spot open (and that was with the lower 22 skater cap) so not a sure thing they necessarily add anything else this summer.
- Losing Pinard is a massive loss IMO as he was the one true sniper on the team...a guy who could score from anywhere and beat a goalie with just his shot. Although they have lots of guys who put up big numbers in junior, I don't think they have anyone who fits the profile of a pure goal scorer.
- Any word on McCallum and his recovery from the injury he suffered in the AUS Final?

I was thinking the other day...I would have to think MacDougall is getting pretty handy to some milestones/records for wins, no? If I'm not mistaken Dave Adolph has the record for most career wins. Is there anywhere that keeps updated and complete records of such things?

Dave Adolph retired with 488 Regular Season wins (Lethbridge and USask combined).

Gardiner is at 460 and would need a 28-2 season to tie and 29-1 season to set the record. Not impossible but unlikely - more like next fall ('24/25).

The following season, 24/25, would be Gardiner's 25 - Adolph set the record over 28 (three season's sooner for Gardiner). A combination of better records and some longer seasons (more games played).

I have no idea what the Playoff record would be - Gardiner is at 82-41. Certainly in the top 3, maybe the best?

For Nationals - Gardiner tied Tom Watt for the most championship game appearances, with 11, and tied Clare Drake for the most tournament games coached, with 42. If they go to Nationals this year - he would break Clare's record and another title (not far fetched) he sets that record as well.
