Thought I would take a look at how the roster is currently looking for next season.

GONE (3 D + 2 F)
D - Noah Carroll
D - Connor Hall
D - Ross MacDougall
F - Thomas Casey
F - Ryan Roth

ELIGIBLE TO RETURN (3 G + 6 D + 13 F)
G - Samuel Richard
G - Griffen Outhouse
G - Tanner Somers
D - Adam McCormick
D - Kade Landry
D - Kale McCallum
D - Colton Kammerer
D - Justin Nolet
D - Chris McQuaid
F - Austen Keating
F - Benjamin Corbeil
F - Cody Morgan
F - Jason Willms
F - Brady Gilmour
F - Macauley Carson
F - Nick Blagden
F - Camaryn Baber
F - Emmett Sproule
F - Cole MacKay
F - Simon Pinard
F - Michael Petizian
F - Isaac Nurse

RUMOURED RECRUITS (2 D + 1 F)
D - Samuel McGinley
D - Nicolas Savoie
F - Peter Reynolds

- With 19 skaters eligible to return and a roster cap of 24 there will be at least five roster spots that can be filled.
- As always, I wouldn't be surprised if they left a spot open for a possible Christmas addition.
- If that's the case, and the three rumoured recruits come to fruition, I can't see them adding more than one other player this summer.
- I would love if that other player was Josh Lawrence, but one has to think he will get a pro offer this summer after back to back 100+ point seasons. Or maybe another AUS team lures him??
- Losing 1/2 of the defence that was so good at the University Cup will be tough to replace, but a healthy Kammerer + a full season from McCallum should help soften the blow.
- Although I wouldn't be surprised if the defence isn't quite as stout, I think the offence can be even better as the young guys (hopefully) improve with a year under their belt. I thought Carson/Nurse/Baber, none of whom put up a ton of points in the regular season, really elevated their game in the playoffs/University Cup. If they can build off that and produce more offensively next season, combined with Willms/Pinard/Morgan/MacKay/Corbeil/Gilmour/Petizian and a full season of Sproule, you have four dangerous looking lines that can all score, somewhat akin to the 2020 team. I don't think any other AUS team will be able to match their offensive depth.
- If Outhouse isn't back, I fully expect them to bring in another goalie to team with Richard. Somers performed well when called upon, but I can't see them going with him as the primary back-up.

Thoughts?

I can see Lawrence getting some looks from Pro teams. Reynolds is a maybe as he has 1 year left to play. Will he want to stay with a "rebuilding" team? Casey and Roth were never really there so they're a roster loss and not a real loss.

The 2022-23 Schedule is out.

Similar but different from last season. Start and Finish against UdeM and PEI, but the other 2-day game pairs are spread-out now instead of end of 1st half and start of 2nd half.

18-12 split - on par for the past few years.
two afternoon games; one in Oct. and Jan.
3-2 splits versus every opponent (3 games before Christmas and 2 after).
They play each team every six games in groups of six; 1-6, 7-12, etc.

So, in all - this is a very balanced scheduled (for UNB) - no complaints of 'we see them all the time' and 'I don't remember the last time we played them'.

Mid-October will be tough - SFX, @ACD, @SMU, ACD, SMU

UNB has exhibition games listed on their schedule:

Sept 15 at UPEI
Sept 22 vs. Carleton in Ottawa
Sept 23 at Ottawa
Sept 29 vs. TMU (Willie O’Ree)
Sept 30 vs. TMU

Dec 29 vs. TBD (Pete Kelly)
Dec 30 vs. TBD (Pete Kelly)

Interesting there is still no NCAA games and they have 7 games listed (did the rule change limiting the number of exhibition games?). Overall though, I like this schedule.

I wonder if the AUC is booked that night? Or maybe they are trying to expand the fanbase to the Northside.

Yeah, surprised there is no trip to the US. Outside chance they bring in an NCAA time over the Xmas break.

I doubt it. They have Pete Kelly in that time frame

They play TMU in the fall…Pete Kelly is over Christmas against a TBD opponent.

I believe SMU is the only opposing team to win the Pete Kelly…UNB has won every one since.
I remember they had four teams for that tournament.

Anyway looking forward to see who they will bring in this year. I like seeing games against non-conference teams

Yup. Tie game and Gards wanted to go extra innings. This is New Year's Eve and we had a 4 hr bus ride back to Halifax. Stieny said No Way and we had a shootout on crappy ice. Rancourt scored the winner after 3-4 dekes. We got back to the rink around 11 and the guys were able to get out to parties with their GFs.

I think it is probably too costly to do four teams now…at least back then you could use STU and Moncton to round out the field. Personally I prefer two games against a different opponent rather than one game and then a game against someone we see often.

There have only been 4 "tournaments" (with 4 teams) in the history of the Pete Kelly - 2005, 06, 07 and 09. Every other has been 2 game total goal or 1 game between UNB and someone else.
