UNB Reds Thread (Part5)

Yes, you are grasping. The player would have to be recruited and KNOW he has a spot on the team, a spot he is comfortable with. The player would have to know this in December/January in order to get registered. I'm sure a lot of guys in their OA year are more concerned with staying on their current team, if it's a good team, or getting traded to a contender.

One is a goalie…not much point there with Parenteau/Outhouse/Somers.

The other is a forward, but as mentioned, unless he was enrolled at UNB by mid-January he can’t play. Bill Hunt’s latest column mentions the loss of Guay/Boland, but nothing about any additions.

I know I’m grasping here…but how common would it be for guys in their overage year to start taking classes at the university they are planning on playing at? Do some guys already have their mind made up about playing USports and what school that early? For example, say Corbeil knew at the end of his overage -1 season he was going to UNB…would he start moving his schooling to UNB for his overage year? Or just wait? I seem to recall Jonathan Harty being listed as a UNB student on one of those WHL Scholarship lists while he was in his last season of junior…so he must’ve already been taking classes there.
Different recruits, Corbeil and Sam Richard have already been mentioned.

Teams could potentially have a red shirt on campus that is now date eligible, or a former high level player who is no longer playing. So not outside realm of possibility that you may see a new face in a team short of bodies.

team posted photos from practice, someone with #4 on their helmet who i didn't recognize, seems we might have at least one body

I think we may be talking about a former OHL winger, who put up close to a point a game in his final junior year, with some minor pro experience, but not going to replace the former 50-40 goal scorers that UNB lost, in Boland and Guay.

I was at practice on Sunday, prior to officiating a U13 AAA game at the AUC. I counted 20 skaters (maybe 19 - they were moving around), but certainly more than 17.

UNB will have three newbies I believe, once they get around to announcing ...

Btw, AUSTV will be doing Saturday's UNB-UdeM game, so Mike and I will be on the shelf. Oh well.

It's official.

"Former Ontario Hockey League forward Ryan Roth, of St. Louis, Missouri, along with former Quebec Major Junior Hockey League defenceman Chris McQuaid, of Charlottetown, PE, and former Woodstock Slammers defenceman Chris Becker, from Oakland, NB, have joined the UNB REDS men’s hockey team."

REDS Add Three For Resumed Season

I'm not knocking the CHL guys, but adding a guy who has not played "competitively" for 3 years and had very marginal numbers when he played....????

Yeah don’t really get that one…but have to think the only way he dresses is if things really go off the rails in terms of injuries.
He was already the equipment manager and practiced with the team during the “pandemic non season” . Pretty sure it is just a formality adding him.

I agree. He probably won't dress unless there is an injury on the back end. But he will continue to practice with them every day.

Agreed - a useful utility player if you need to fill-out the roster due to additional injuries. Obviously he has the conditioning and some skill. It doesn't cost the team anything (no one else is available).

Reminds me of Dean Parson in the early 90s. He was the equipment manager in '92-93 and played two games due to injuries (1A and no PIMs).

Took less than a period for injuries to strike…Keating leaves with what looked to be a lower body injury.

They are now without their entire top line from the first semester.
