UBS Arena: Westbound and Down (or something like that)

I hear you, but the Caps and Rangers STH's aren't unloading tickets in the secondary market for <50 cents on the dollar. I signed on for this season mostly due to the inaugural year at the arena, the recent team success, and like most others - playoff rights. I get that you can't look at this as an investment, and you're gonna be out money at the end of the day, but the limited size of the fanbase just can't support the resale market for this team. Seasons make sense for someone that doesn't care about the resale market, absolutely loves their specific seats and section, and goes to a lot of games. I think the new arena brought a lot of new blood into the STH family, but most of those were casual fans. Next year I'd much rather bounce around the arena, pick off the specific games I want to go to, and just pay market rate for playoffs. Last year's STH prices for playoffs were basically market rate anyway - so that incentive to me has come off the table.
And this is exactly why it was so crucial to keep the success of the past 3 seasons going into the first years at UBS. You pick up new casual fans, first time season ticket holders, and if everybody is happy and enjoying themselves for a few years, it works out well. However, when you instead, make everybody miserable and realize that they wasted so much money when tickets could be had for whatever games you want on the secondary market for like 1/3 of the price, then you will quickly lose all those new casual fans and first time season ticket holders, and usually they aren't coming back then. I am the first person to say that I genuinely believe the NHL screwed us, as our record since the Covid outbreak to me clearly indicates we are a playoff team, but we were supposed to be much more than that this year. And the simple fact is Lou had a VERY poor offseason last year, did next to nothing to get the team to the next level and Barry's coaching and personnel decisions left a lot to be desired for most of the season. It was just a poor organizational performance up and down this season.

in fairness to lou, the next level was one more goal. in his mind, and many of ours i'm sure if we are honest, one goal, kind of a fluke at that in that gourde jumped off the bench and into the play to score the only shorthanded goal we gave up last season. game 7 on the road vs what is as close to a dynasty today as there is. we had many chances in that game and again, hindsight being 20/20, lou probably felt keeping playoff kyle, add parise on the cheap and for the most part keeping all else the same was enough to keep us on the level we were last season. this is truly an asterisk season and tough shit for us, those are the breaks. i have great optimism that IF the right tweaks are made, we will be back next season and in the hunt.

Has anyone walked from the Queens village station to UBS? Now that it's not freezing I have that option. Google maps gives some crazy around the way directions when it looks like a 15 minute walk.

I'm going to Tuesday's game.

You don't need to walk. There's free shuttle buses taking you from Queens Village and back every game.

Why do they rarely ever show replays on the jumbotron? Ever other arena Ive been to shows multiple replays almost immediately.

I know. I have taken them several times. They're very easy and convenient. I just thought that with the weather getting nicer I could walk. My wife likes to walk everywhere! It doesn't seem like there is an easy way to walk from Queens Village though.

Did you change from car to walking on google maps? If it’s on car, it might be showing crazy route because of one way streets

Why are these overpass walkways closed after games? They way we are herded into one spot and then have to wait for the busses to pass for 30 seconds of walking is just terrible. The overpasses go directly to the train and to the shuttle busses. On twitter, the LIRR responded to me saying they are only open when there's something going on at the racetrack. Of course, neither the Islanders, nor UBS responded. I've been to UBS six times (4 games, a concert and AEW Wrestling) and leaving absolutely sucks. Getting there is great.

According to this article season ticket renewals for 2022-23 are going strong.

Hey all. Hoping to make it over from Oz in late 2024. Want to spend a couple of weeks at least in NY area and get in as many Isles games as possible.
Is there locations anywhere in the arena area that are reasonably priced for family accommodation? And close to transport etc as obviously be in Manhattan a fair bit with family.
Had a quick look on Air BNB and mostly seemed pretty pricey?
Looking for some local advice!

I don't use Air BNB's so I couldn't offer anything there. If I were in your situation I'd probably look for hotels in Midtown Manhattan and take the train to UBS Arena, unless the proprosed hotel at Belmont Park is completed (construction hasn't started yet).

If your visit is in late 2024, why plan for it now? Isn't this a bit early?

Those who fail to plan, plan to fail.

Like to be organised! Lol. Thanks for info.
Air BNBs were a good option as a house rather than a hotel room would be great for four of us,

There's really nothing "nice" or for families in the area of the arena. Like most arenas, not in the greatest part of town--- that you'd want to stick around. If you are coming in for a weekend, that's one thing,, but a couple of weeks with the family, is quite another thing entirely.

My advice would be to find some hotels in Manhattan -- they are tons of them, in nearly every part of the city. They will be expensive - start saving now. The NYC (Penn Station/MSG) to Belmont Arena is a super easy trip on LIRR. 25 min or so via train. You'll also be able to take a quick train to see a Devil game, if you wanted to.
