If he doesn't make the sens in camp I don't see a team picking him up of he is sent down. That time of year there are tons of similar players that get sent through waivers.
I doubt he makes it through waivers. Thomson makes 860K and is a RD. I’d think a Chicago, Arizona or Minnesota would take a chance on him.

I think teams will see a fairly recent first round RD who can skate and take a chance

Not at the start of the year when everyone has similar players to make decisions on. Teams like their own guys at that point.

JBD and Thomson have little value at this stage and could pass through waivers next season if they have disappointing camps

Both were terrible selections in the 1st round. No idea what the scouting staff was thinking taking them there.

It was at Cornell

"Greening is a rare bird in the NHL. He has a degree in applied economics and management from Cornell University, where he was the hockey team's point-a-game captain and graduated with a 3.99 grade-point average."

Ivy league is pretty elite

I was quite literally blown away. A 3.99 GPA is phenomenal, compounded by the fact he played at high level men’s hockey program.

Then instantly gets enrolled at Harvard the second he leaves the league - which I thought was even more impressive.

Clearly a driven man with clout and connections.

As much as we all love Sanderson, imagine K'Andre Miller-Drysdale as a pairing. We also should have picked Tomasino in 2019. Ugh, so many missed opportunities.

Even with Norris being out the whole year:

Tkachuk-Stutzle-Giroux
Debrincat-Pinto-Batherson
Greig-Tomasino-Joseph
Kelly-Kastelic-Watson

Chabot-Zub
Miller-Drysdale
Brannstrom-Hamonic

Gustavsson
Forsberg

we'd have been a playoff team.

That D core is worse than our current D core

Um, what?

Miller = Sanderson (I think Sanderson will surpass him, but Miller has been great thus far).
Chychrun >> Drysdale yes, but this also means we can keep the high pick either for another great prospect to draft, or trade for some goaltending help.

You legitimately answered your own question.

I'd rather have Miller, Drysdale, and our 2023 1st rounder that can used as a trade chip for a goalie like Saros/Hellebuyck, than Chychrun, Sanderson, and JBD.
What does a trade chip to use for a goalie have to do with our current D core vs. the imagined one?

I’d rather have Miller, Sanderson and a trade chip to use for a goalie too.

makes our team better.
Well, yeah. Has nothing to do with the D cores though, which is what I commented on.

Miller would absolutely have made our team better. Could really just stop there. We’d be better with K’Andre Miller rather than JBD. News at 11.

Not sure there is a team in the league that would look to switch Sanderson for Drysdale, regardless of position or team makeup, including the Ducks.

I think Thomson will end up being the odd player out but will be a bit surprised if JBD doesn't make the team next year as our 3RD. JBD is our only prospect who is as shutdown savvy as Zub. Kleven can be that, but has more tools that might modify his game to be a bit different.

Kleven 1st period last night was amazing. There is no way he ends up being a bottom pairing caliber player.
He moves so well, and not just for his size. He has quality hands, sees the ice well, jumps in the play nicely, has the shot, reads the play well defensively.

Much better player than I anticipated and he hasn’t really even (understandably as gets acclimated) started to use the physical game that we all know is coming.

Had kleven laid any of his signature open ice hits yet in the nhl? Or even tried? Im guessing he will try introducing that to his game as he gets more comfortable with the league and all that

Remember when people were upset that we traded up for him? Loved the pick from the start.
I remember that one.

I think we had traded up in the previous draft and missed. This guy just seemed like another Jared Cowen miss. Tall, big, and lanky but can't handle the puck to save their lives.

I was wrong.

Cowen could have been a serviceable dman if it wasn't for his injuries, I didn't feel he was necessarily a bad pick, he just had bad luck.

People complaining that we go so far away from McKenzie's list but when we moved up with a second and third to grab a guy listed at 36th in the 44 spot, there were still complaints. The Leafs duo that were drafted using those two picks have done diddly.

Kleven is a lot closer to being NHL ready than a lot of people thought. Extending Brannstrom and Hamonic and fitting Kleven in and timing will all play a part.
Kleven is our best prospect D right now. IMO he is ahead of JBD, Guenette and Thomson.
Is Kleven a bottom pair shutdown D or is he more than that. He could very well be more than that or he could realistically become more than that.

As of now I'd have no issues starting the year with as our D corps
Chabot Zub
Sanderson Chychrun
Brannstrom Kleven

Will Hamonic sign as a 7th D? To me he clearly can still play and he offers intangibles.
If he signs it could push Kleven to the AHL. I don't see them using Kleven, JBD et al as 7th D.
If Hamonic is in the starting 6 they will use a guy like Heatherington.
