Mind Prison
If I understand social network analysis correctly, I believe we ALL are six degrees of separation from Tyler Kleven.
I want to DM him but I am scared I’d make an ass of myself and everything worse. I’m his biggest supporter and while I think he will be great anywhere he will flourish here.

I can’t tell you the amount of times I’ve been tired, frustrated and ready to lose my mind only to think of this guy as a Sen and be instantly called, cooled and collected.

there was some concern when he did not want to sign last year

Holy crap
Kleven will have to be really good to make Ottawa out of training camp next yr & given the numbers could be sent down simply because there is no room on the roster since he will be waiver exempt.

I expect that Chabot, Chychrun, Sanderson, Zub, Hamonic & Brannstrom will likely be on the team & JBD is no longer waiver exempt & if not traded could also make the team as the 7th D. It could also depend if Brannstrom is kept or moved during the summer.
Holy crap. Did you just say you expect Brannstrom on the team next year?

If he were smaller he might not have NHL size and strength, which he currently has. He also has NHL skating. He isn't an 18 year old kid.

I'd give him a solid look.
He's definitely the type if prospect that is going to need some significant time in the AHL. I think it's been good for him to stay in College this long. He probably needs a full year next year then gets some call ups the following season.

Yeah if he’s smaller he’s probably a long shot to make the show. But again he is a big kid that will need time to grow into his frame and learn how to use it at the pro level.

Chara is a tired example but a good one.

Mandatory shoulder press at the gym EVERYDAY!!!!
It's the cartilage and ligaments that get damaged. Weight lifting and building stronger deltoids (shoulder muscles) over the years can put additionally stress on cartilage and ligaments. Personal experience.

Chara got 25 NHL games in his D+2 and 59 in his D+3.

Kleven is going into his D+4 year, was a higher draft pick and had no less impressive play post draft.

So maybe not the best example for your case.

I agree he may need some AHL time but I wouldn't write him off in the NHL.

Eh it’s an example of a guy that took a little longer to find his game but fair point.

I’m not against Kleven getting his cup of coffee next year but I see no need to rush him.

There is no reason why Kleven won’t get walked by AHL forwards next year. The kid is tantalizing but he is not up for awards like Owen Power. He isn’t even on any too defenceman lists for NCAA hockey. We love our prospects but let’s pump the brakes
Those awards always go to offensive D.

Nobody is clamoring for top pair and he does need to marinate but with his skillset he could be a 3rd pairing guy in the NHL.

For sure. But the question is when? A lot are pencilling him in to join the team now and next year. I know the awards will go to flash, but they also recognize overall play. I think he will need time is all

If Kleven becomes a bottom pairing defenseman in 2 years, who becomes a defensive #4 in his prime, that would be great for the Sens! I'm not saying he will, but I think that's his upside if everything goes well. He could just as easily become a low upside JBD type that makes less mistakes.

Totally agree. The narrative of him coming in to play this year first came up right as they boys were tuning up the Wings and there was hope of a playoff push. At that time, it was a complete pipe dream.

Now? We may see him get a taste of the NHL but I think he needs at least a year in the AHL before he can be on the Ottawa roster, probably more. I won't be surprised if he surges in development though, he seems to be another guy that just wants it bad.

Personally, I'm eager to see him in a game or two at the NHL level to see where he's at, but expect next year to be in the AHL.

A lot of the time top tier NCAA and CHL D men who transition to the NHL struggle because of the physical maturity, and that plays a role in how long they need at the AHL level. Kleven still has room to grow, but should already be able to handle the size of NHL players. He's going to need seasoning, the question is how much.

I imagine it will be announced by one of the next 3 games & Kleven will be interviewed during the intermission. I'm hoping it will be on TSN than on HNIC & Sportsnet if they would even bother given it's not Leaf news. TSN is so much better than Sportsnet as far as the Sens are concerned.
It’s better concerning everything. Sportsnet is like f***ing amateur hour. Also completely void of any humour

Man kleven is getting heavily overrated
I think it is just a bit of excitement for a style of player we haven't had in a long time.

Big, decent skater and seems to be mean. Those guys are immediate fan favourites.

Also, with the firepower we have up front and the issues defending, a guy who can (hopefully) stop cycles and clear the crease would be welcome.

Fair enough. I agree.
