Having seen his whole college career, I'm excited for Kleven's pro future. He really improved this year. He's not Jake Sanderson, but I think he may have a long career as a rangy defender with a big wingspan who can chip in a few points. A guy built for the postseason.

Hoping for Pelech like impact.

I think he signs with the Sens and burns a year. If everyone is in agreement that ATO option looks like the way to go. Colin White did this when he left BC. He played a couple games and then, a few days later, signed an ELC for the current season with the Sens. I am not sure what was all said in that initial agreement to sign an ATO . An ATO to delay the ELC start until 2023-24 would mean we have an extra ELC year. That did not happen with White.

Agents/advisors will play a part in the decision

Bruce's tweet mentioned Craig Oster. I suppose he could be acting informally as the family advisor.

Hockey agents are not allowed to represent a potential college athlete in the way that they would a professional or major junior athlete. NCAA rules bar players from signing with agents. This is where some of the major differences between agents and advisors come in.
Family advisors have become increasingly popular in recent years because of these rules. The main difference between an agent and an advisor is that an advisor is paid based on a contracted rate with the family. Their earnings do not depend on the size of a contract that they might procure for the player in the future. Payment is agreed upon before the player even signs with or is recruited by a team.

An NCAA player who is interested in furthering his career must work with a family advisor rather than an agent. There are many people who try to circumvent these rules, but if they are caught it could disqualify the player from playing in the NCAA. It simply isn’t worth it to try to break the rules.

Andy Sutton was one of my fave low key Senators. would be pretty thrilled if Kleven becomes something like that.
I remember when we got Sutton, he added huge size to the D and immediately acted as a policeman to protect our smaller players such as Karlsson. He could hit a ton too. I was sorry to see him leave the team.

I imagine it will be announced by one of the next 3 games & Kleven will be interviewed during the intermission. I'm hoping it will be on TSN than on HNIC & Sportsnet if they would even bother given it's not Leaf news. TSN is so much better than Sportsnet as far as the Sens are concerned.

Friedman sowing some discord about whether Kleven will sign. Says he's concerned about 'the youth and depth on Ottawa's blueline' which could impact his route to the NHL.

Should he be concerned?
Maybe. Chabot, Sanderson, Zub, Chychrun, and Brannstrom are all young and under control for a few years. The waiver status of JBZ and Thomson probably won't help his cause either.

I'm not sure he wants to wait until August 2024 to become a UFA though.

I don’t think it’s that clear cut. He sees next year like.

Play in college and finish his education playing for UND and then sign with any team

Or play in Belleville Ontario for 80k and be under team control in Ottawa for the following 5 years with multiple fixtures already in place on the blue line .

He probably signs but I wouldn’t be shocked if he does not

Kleven LD is exactly what this team needs on that 3rd pairing to clear the front of the net & bring some sandpaper & hard hitting to the defence the way Boro used to hit & put fear into players. The one spot I see wide open for next yr is the 3rd pairing LD spot which is his position, whether he will be NHL ready by the end of training camp next yr remains to be seen as well as who will still be here competing for that spot. It also wouldn't surprise me if PD adds a vet LD to play for a yr or two who has the same attributes. Should be interesting what happens next season to this defence now that they have at least 3 top 4 D.

Anyone who thinks they have six degrees of separation from Tyler please DM him and plead that he signs in Ottawa.

We can not lose this kid.
