Can’t throw him in while we’re in the race. As everyone has already pointed.

Hopefully he can get like a dozen ahl games and an nhl game at the very end

I'm curious why the bolded has become a standard practice with college players. Correct me if I'm wrong, but did we not lose Daccord to Seattle because that 1 game we gave him coming out of College was the difference in being exempt for the expansion draft as it counted as a professional year?

Seems to do more harm to the franchise with less control time vs doing a solid for the prospect.

Usually a carrot to get them to sign, I think.

It could be part of the negotiation process. And if I recall something someone else smarter than me said about contracts is that if you're over 20 when you sign, it already slides by default?

If Klevin signs a 2022/23 ELC starting now it burns a year whether he plays a professional game or not. As long as the ELC signing age is 20 by Sep 15. As of March 1st teams can sign players to ELCs that begin the following season in which case the player can sign an Amateur tryout and play in the AHL.

Klevin will sign, burn the year and likely only play in Belleville. He will the be a 10.2 RFA after the 24/25 season, meaning no arb and not eligible for an OS.

Yeah so the only way around it is to not sign him to an NHL contract this year. Which won't happen.

I like the burn year. You still get 2 more years on ELC and then 5 at RFA, same situation as Sanderson and Pinto. You can go 3 year bridge of ELC and still get a long term deal done.

It’s the quid for them coming over and signing, the promise of a year off the ELC.

Burning a year on a guy like Kleven isn't a big deal. He'll never be an expensive player anyway.

The downside is that he'll probably only get 1 game in the NHL, play 7 or 8 minutes and then sit the rest of the season. Whereas Belleville are 2 points out of a playoff spot and would probably use him every game down the stretch.

Hopefully he'll be willing to do an ATO in Belleville with a contract starting in 23/24.

With Belleville trading away a defenceman yesterday is this opening a spot for Kleven if UND lose this weekend?

If he is eligible to play in Belleville I can’t see why he wouldn’t.

He won’t get the play time up here right now, though he may get a welcome game
to give him a taste of late season meaningful NHL hockey to get his summer training plans in order.

There is no need to play him in the NHL.
There’s no need to play any of them. But it looks like just a contract thing that players coming out of college seem to like

It’s definitely an incentive thing. They get paid some big boy money in their first year. I’m not 100 % tho

If he plays an NHL game then he's no longer eligible to go down to Belleville this season. It has to be one or the other.

Playing an NHL game has no impact on the contract.

Unpopular opinion here, I like what we have in Kleven given we haven't had a physical specimen prospect like him in a while, but I'd rather have Niemela and Hirvonen. Not that I think we'd sure-fire select them, but I prefer having skilled guys selected in our 2nd round.

Of course, none of my hype matters until we see the selected picks play.

Honestly at this point, put Kleven into the line up just to get someone hungry on the ice

So I just looked over our draft history, and I have to say Kleven is my favourite Sens prospect of all time. Can’t ever remember being so hyped for a kid to make the show.

Meszaros is the only other time I’ve been so sure of a prospect (not named Sanderson) and I think more highly of Kleven than Meszaros.

Favorite over: Spezza, Daigle, Bonk, Stutzle, Tkachuk, just to name a few?
