I didn't realize Kleven was so good. It says a lot that Arizona wanted him, Greig, or Sogaard in the Chychrun trade. Given this, I assume he's now a much better prospect than the disappointing Thomson, or the unskilled limited JBD.

Can't wait to see him crush some opponents!

How’s kleven been he’s played most of the season on the top pairing right?
Top pair all year. He's gotten more refined with his first pass, definitely trying to think the game better. I think he still needs to fill into his large frame. He may get pushed around on the boards by shorter stockier guys who can get leverage on him. I think by the time he's wearing his man muscles at 24-25 he'll be much more effective than he is now.

Here's how I understand Kleven's contract situation. IIRC, because he is past junior age, (he's 21 now) his contract can't "slide" - rather, he burns a year of his ELC the minute he signs it. (Someone feel free to correct me if I got that wrong.) Also, although he is waiver exempt, he was not on Belleville's roster on the "clear day" a couple of days ago, which means that he is ineligible to play in the playoffs for Belleville. (They're in tough to make it anyway.) Of course, Kleven has yet to sign because is in NCAA, and loses his eligibility the second he signs a pro contract. The other possibility is that he signs an Amateur Tryout Agreement with Belleville and holds off signing with us, but I fail to see what is in that for him - guys coming out of NCAA want to burn a year of that ELC right away. He could, of course, go back to NCAA, play another year, and become a UFA as of August 2024, but he'd have to sign a fairly identical ELC with that new team anyway.

Like I say, if anyone has a better fix on it let me know, but that's how I understand it...

Who cares :)

Can’t wait till he gets here though. Even if they traded down.

Jesus Christ. When is this guy going to stop with the over the top takes? Here's how simple it is:
"Ottawa Senators GM Pierre Dorion: "I went and saw Tyler Kleven this year and came away so impressed with him. We're really looking forward to having him make an impact for this team."
Yeah, but then we couldn't meme him. Dorion is just thinking about us internet degenerates.

Oh come on, relax.

The guy is excitable and effusive, and very positive. Nothing wrong with that. We all talk about how tired we all are of bland responses, but get all cringy when someone shows some genuine emotions.

Just chalk it up as a quirky Pierrism and let it go. ;)

I couldn't care less what Dorion says, what matters is what he does and doesn't do as a GM, and frankly since Melnyk passed away, Dorion has been pretty impressive and one of the best GM and the league!! Of course he's not a sweet talker like Steve Yzerman :naughty:

If the Senators remain in the hunt for a playoff spot I don't see how he gets a game with Ottawa.

If we surpass and have a spot locked up or it becomes clear we are out then he might get in there but I expect he is in Belleville to finish the season.

I disagree. This isn't a quirk, it's just a weird thing to say. You can be excited about someone without having to venture into hyperbolic quips to make your point. I've never been more excited about this team, yet the thought of adopting the players has never crossed my mind because it's weird.
