What’s the earliest klevens season at UND can end? I think tonight is the last game of the regular season and then next weekend are the quarterfinals

Might have been one of the worst signings known to be bad the moment it was signed since Jeff Finger.

Closer to homeless man's Chris Pronger. I do like Kleven and excited for him to bring his skill set to the team, but those 2 should never be compared. Pronger is an all time great.
Lol, that’s mean.

Poor man, in the sense that he has Pronger‘a size and frame, the way he moves and skates. He has a nasty, dirty streak. Heavy shot.

Of course Pronger is a HHOFer, but just as far as tools, if he can become 50% of Pronger…that would be something

Oh yeah I know what you were going for and it's tough to come up with a comparison for someone like Kleven. Fast and tall Volchenkov? A mean JayBo? Complete opposite of Erik Brannstrom?

Next weekend will be a road playoff series, best of three, opponent to be determined tonight. Very disappointing season for them. If they lose that series, the season is over. Kleven could be signed in eight days, on March 12. If they win that series, they live for another week.

He's not alone on an island at 6'4"... and he can skate very well.

The NHL isn't getting soft or loosing the element of players being very hard to play against anytime soon...

Did you see what Tampa just paid an intimidating grinder that can skate? The winners all know this is still going to be a mandatory element to any real contending team.

He's 6'5" brah.

He would be an amazing prospect from 1995 to 2015. But who's he gonna be in the new NHL?

Dude's elbows are gonna be at jaw-height every hit he makes.

He’d have been Derian Hatcher in 1995 when you could hook and hold.

I actually think the price is directly correlated to the NHL getting soft. Hard players are much harder to come by now and therefore command a higher price tag.

DOESnT skate like jaybo.

How disappointing can it be they lost their 5 best players the last two years and their best player this season in Sanderson.

A college team turns over every couple years anyway, so we're used to it. Last year the team rallied in the second half and won the league, without Sanderson, who was hurt. They brought nearly everyone back, and they'd been without Sanderson anyway, so expectations were high.

How’s kleven been he’s played most of the season on the top pairing right?

Just realized he's of Norwegian descent! Easily want him to succeed with us more.
He had me when I found out he's from Fargo

What happened to, "they are a dime a dozen", that doesn't apply any more?

Let's be clear Kleven is going to be a 3rd pairing LD, he's not going to challenge anyone in the top 2 pairings & all we need from him is what we get basically from Holden & Hamonic. He needs to shutdown the other team's good players, he needs to clear the net, he needs to block shots & make some big hits & he needs to stand up for his teammates. This won't happen all at once, but he should improve with time & experience, he's already a decent skater & can get around the ice quickly. I expect he will be a Holden replacement as soon as he is NHL ready.

Just to be clear, a comparison to Hatcher in 1995 is a compliment. The guy was a monster and playing with what the rules allowed was definitely a top pairing guy.

Kleven is definitely a better skater, the comparison is more about what he could have done with his size and strength and his natural disposition towards nasty play. If he played in an era where you could hook, hold and generally manhandle guys he’d be a stud.

He’ll still be a contributor but will definitely need to rely more on skating than someone like Hatcher ever did.

?

Please quote me saying Kleven was dime a dozen. I’ve been on this wagon man. I had him in several mocks predraft.

I meant it in general, sorry I should have been more specific but people used to say that about hard nosed players that they are easy to get & there are lots of them.

Hard-nosed players who can play in the top 6 or top 4 are hard to get. We'll see if Kleven can develop into a role like that.

Hard-nosed players who can fill out the bottom of a roster? Pretty easy to find. The Leafs just went out and got Acciari, McCabe, Schenn and Lafferty over a couple of days. They're hard-nosed players but not real difference makers.

This is somewhat true, but guys with Kleven’s combo of timing in open ice, size/strength, nastiness, and skating aren’t easy to find at all.

No, but we'll see how his timing, strength, nastiness and skating hold up at the NHL level. It's one thing to do it in the NCAA, and another thing to do it in the pros.

I like him and think he'll be a good player, but I think some fans need to slow down a bit. He's not Jake Sanderson. It'll be 2-3 more years until we can count on him to be a regular on this team, IMO.

After all, there was a time when we thought that Jared Cowen and Patrick Wiercioch had skillsets that were very difficult to find (albeit they were different from Kleven's).

I think fans have been pretty balanced, generally on here most expect a bottom pair guy somewhere down the line. Dorion’s comments are by far the most positive I’ve seen.

Cowen could still have been something if it weren’t for the hip injury taking away his skating. Wiercioch required projection and part of his issue is that he never filled out, under 200lbs at 6’4+ is awfully thin.

He isn’t going to take 2-3 years is my prediction, sure sounds like the GM thinks he’s almost ready right now.

Our team will do their usual thing and bring him along as he shows he’s ready.

No reason for anyone to temper expectations, just be ready to adjust them on the fly :)
