Without NHL hockey and going a little stir crazy now as my Christmas break is dragging on, I really want to watch this. $7.99 for a single day subscription to AHLTV but anyone know a source to stream for free?
Not watching the WJC?

Not watching the WJC?
Definitely am. I'm pacific time though and with no snow for skiing I'm stuck inside with kids and in laws and need all the escapes from life I can't get, especially later in the day when I can justify opening a bottle of wine and sitting in front of a fire with no distractions.

Didnt realize the Bsens game was on now. Ordered it and am watching.

1 goal in nine games and struggles to win a fight against a 5'9 opponent. Can I go to sleep now?
Yes, for a year. Then wake up to see if anything positive happened. It is too early (small sample size) to tell if the poor results are caused by injuries, rust or lack of talent.

I think we've had a chance to see enough. He was also supposed to be an imposing physical presence. That fight threw away that idea.

I doubt that he becomes an NHL player at this point and would trade him if he had any value which I think is virtually non-existent. Yes, the fight was a nothing burger and did not demo that he is tough physically imposing player.

He has transitioned to the AHL fairly well, all things considered. His last game prior to this season was March 3rd in the OHL. He then made his pro debut on December 21st. He went nearly 9 months without playing a game, was recovering from surgery, missed the rookie tournament, training camp and preseason for both the NHL and AHL, and missed the first few months of the season. He then jumped into a much tougher league than he has ever played in at a time where players across the league are really starting to get in the groove on their game.

I have seen some of the clips of his play from game highlights and seen larger parts of the last few games. He has shown some good flashes. He has mostly been used on the 3rd or 4th line but his line has still been effective at generating quality scoring chances and scoring goals. He also wasn't on either powerplay unit until last game. He has done a very effective job of drawing penalties both because of his speed and skating, and his effective agitation.

It will be interesting to see how he develops over the remainder of this season and what his point production looks like as he gets his game up to speed and adjusts to the AHL level.

Part of it is he doesn't look particularly big at the AHL level. In the OHL, he looked like a physically developed teenager in a league with a lot of not-physically-developed players. Now, he's playing with men and he looks very ordinary.

Of course, you can be physically imposing without being physically huge. Raffi Torres comes to mind. But so far, in the AHL, I haven't seen that streak from Boucher. He looks like a guy who's still trying to find his footing.

Boucher's now 10 games into his pro career:

- 4 points (all primary)
- 2 fights
- 32 PIMS
- 8-2 record for Belleville with him in the lineup

For reference, he's got a (slightly) higher PPG than Ostapchuk currently. The production is decent, the eye test checks out and he's not tentative physically. All in all, have to be happy with that given how little hockey he's played since being drafted.

Nice to see him play a few games in a row! I hope he can stay healthy, finish strong and then have a proper off season and show what he has next TC.

From the last 2 tilts he should probably tone down the fighting, or get some different training to protect himself better.

How long before we can sign him to an 8x8?

Boucher will be able to learn a lot from Boko Imama and Brennan Saulnier. Both are very competent fighters. Saulnier, at 6' 170 lbs, has beat up a lot of guys bigger than him. Boko is one of the best heavyweights in the AHL and he has trained with one the best boxers to come out of Canada in Jean Pascal. Boko is listed at 6'1 222 lbs.

It will be a real benefit for Boucher to learn from those two as they have both demonstrated that they know a lot about fighting techniques. Both also regularly beat up fighters that have a height and reach advantage on them.

He just needs Chris Neil to help coach him a bit. The big thing with fighting is maintaining balance. It is part of the fundamentals of boxing.

Look at Neil's old fights. He has tremendous balance. He can take some punches and roll with them, deflecting them off his shoulders, and get himself set up to to land some powerful punches back. Boucher has tried to land a hard right cross in both fights and nearly did. He just losses his balance before he can get himself set up to really start throwing back in return. If he can maintain his balance and set up his punches like Neil, he will give himself a good chance to win many fights.

Yeah, I want him focusing on the game, not fighting. Playing physical by finishing your checks, limiting space to the opposition and opening up space for your linemates. Work on those hands and vision and moving the puck. Be solid defensively. Fighting should be after all that.
Or not at all.

play hard and solid positionally and only fight when you're going to draw a retaliatory instigator because someone jumped you after exploding someone with a clean hit.

But they aren’t robots though, and fighting is an emotional reactionary thing these days.

Sometimes you go because the other guy asks, sometimes you go because you’re standing up for a teammate, sometimes you go because things get super heated. Lots of reasons beyond overthinking the reasoning.

The only time there should be timing consideration is when you’re trying to spark the team, and those fights are pretty rare these days.
