Signing guys who got hurt a lot in their 20s to a big long contract that will be in their 30s except for one year…I dunno. He was good from the redline in in the playoffs. He wasn’t good along the boards in his own zone. That can probably be helped. His foot speed is only gonna get worse. There is an AAV and term where it would be worth it, but I suspect someone else is gonna give him more than that.

Put it this way, I would rather trade assets and sign PLD to an 8x8 deal than give Bert 6x6, and I think Bert wants more than that.
I would love for them to make a play for PLD, but Im not sure what you risk parting with without a guarantee that he doesn't bolt to the Habs

I think he is probably better than Hall... but with Hall you only have to project 2 years and that feels a lot safer.
So that 2years with Hall makes him more valuable.........Although I agree I have always been a fan of Bert , but an over pay I would not be in favor ........

Well you don't do anything with him unless anew contract is in play......

Am I the only one who worries about how someone that bad in the defensive zone is gonna age?
I’m fine with having him back, but don’t want to lose a good player for him. I’d rather even have Taylor Hall.

If we’re dumping Grzcelyk and Forbort to make room for him, sure. But Bertuzzi is so bad defensively I’m not going all out to keep him.

Globe article on Bertuzzi today:
1. Have to believe that this was planned for the middle of the B's second round series
2. Was I the only one not to know that he isn't Todd Bertuzzi's son??? His mom is Todd Bertuzzi's sister. I had no idea. Just assumed.

Would love to lock him and Pasta up as our 1st line wings mid-long team. Even when he struggled putting up points early on, he passed every piece of the eye test (besides the defensive zone). One of the few players that looked like he gave a f*** every shift.

He’s going to get and deserves a huge check. Hope it’s here.

WTH! 1 year to cash in next year.

When do we see the picture of Bertuzzi in Maple Leaf jammies?

Seemed like he went into FA looking for something between 6x6 and 7x7. Probably the best offer he got was the 5x5 that Barbashev signed. Got resentful and cut off his nose to spite his face by signing this 1 year deal. Huge mistake, IMO. Next year he will be 29, which makes a long-term contract less likely. Also the chance of injuries that could set his market value back dramatically.

Honestly, I think he's an idiot.

Or he plays with the Leafs core 4, puts up career numbers and cashes in long term when the cap takes a huge hike next year. He's basically gambling on himself.
