I wanted Bertuzzi back and am not exactly thrilled that the Leafs got him but let’s see how it all plays out after the playoffs. Is it possible JVR gets more points in the playoffs next year than Bertuzzi does ? Leafs still have a lot of holes ( as do the Bruins) . Maybe this year’s team while not having as much talent will have better chemistry in the playoffs. I can’t wait for hockey to start, baseball doesn’t do much for me .

I do not foresee JVR out-scoring Bertuzzi in the playoffs unless the bruins go on a miracle run and play 23 games and leafs get swept in 4 and Bertuzzi is injured for 2 of them. Maybe under those conditions.

I expect 15-15-30 from JVR in the regular season. Bertuzzi may put up 70+ with Matthews and Marner

I wonder why Bertuzzi wouldn't have waited longer, it was only July 2nd, how is that a great deal for him? I get what people are saying about playing alongside Matthews and Marner to boost his points and maybe get a better deal next year but that is a gamble and most players want the term because of injuries etc. It is a gamble.

I am sure he will not enjoy the media in Toronto.

I’m confused with this. This seems like an absolute blunder
Absolutely

He should fire his agent

4 years for 22 M from Bruins pre FA or 1 for 5.5 Leafs and go bsck in ?

Cap expected to be on a 5% growth hopefully for League so that puts it around 4.4 M next summer- the amount of top FA intersecting with teams in trouble next season (good teams) he’s going to be right back in a 1 or 2 year deal

Agent wanted 5-7 years at 6+ overplayed his hand

Side note - I told all the Domi to Bruins crowd 0.0 he was coming here no chance and he’s also a Leafs

Pastrnak wants Nylander here - keep an eye on him in Toronto he hits FA he’s here

Actually it sounds like Boston f***ed up.

Cap not skyrocketing unless 4 maybe 5 M is a skyrocket

I’ve watched hundreds of hours of NHL Network and listened to same hockey podcasts and it’s 5%

Everyone from Brian Burke to Friedman to David Pagnotta on and on this past week says 4 to 5 M with 4 M most common

That's a monster jumped compared to what's been going on the last few years, IMO, but I realize we might all have different ideas of what "monster" means in this context.

I think there’s more to it

It would be very leafs typical for Bertuzzi to get a big deal elsewhere and leave leaf’s holding the bag after celebrating like they fleeced everyone. It’s a one year deal.

Wouldn’t shock me to see him land back in Boston either

This confuses me as well. I’m a big bertuzzi fan after the way he played in the playoffs. Sure he had some poor defensive plays, one beyond glaring one. But he never took a shift off. He drove that line in the playoffs.

Very fun player to watch, unmatched hustle every shift and had a little snarl to his game. Elevated even more as the lights got bigger. Something this bruins team has desperately lacked in the playoffs for the better part of a decade.

They can always sign him next year.

That’s true, but at what elevated cost after he plays on a line with matthews?

Have to wonder what the offers were that couldn’t beat out a 1x5.5. Maybe he’s just betting on himself, but the armchair GM in me would have easily gave him 4x5.25 and not thought twice about it

I think his agent had something to do with it. If he gets hurt again, he’s screwed and won’t get more money. Big gamble.

I have no clue why Bertuzzi wanted to go to the Leafs but if that is what he wants I am totally fine. He was good during our disappointing playoff run but not a game changer. Great passing game but no finishing skills.

If the Bruins go farther than the Leafs next year does it really matter?

And absolutely brutal at boneheaded giveaways, but then who wasn’t in the playoffs,it’s like the entire team was inflicted with stupidity, maybe it was that bug or whatever they had ,and it seemed to inflict the brain .
