If the Bruins can trade Hall, Gryzlyck, and Forbort and resign Bertuzzi and Orlov I do it
Still leaves you with having to move another $5-6M. Resigning both of those guys is a pipe dream. Better to look at them as high end rentals. Unless you’re trading Ullmark, Coyle (in addition to Hall), Debrusk, Hampus etc it just can’t happen unless the cap jumps more than $1M.

I think he's been fine.

Sure, you'd like to see a bit more production, but his vision looks top quality. Guy can find teammates under pressure like no ones business. The issue is they're having is not cashing in.

You add in the fact that he could have had 2-3 more goals if they weren't waived off.

I'd like to see him remain on that line when Hall comes back.

Hall - Coyle - Bertuzzi would be a fantastic 3rd line.

Question for you guys (I come from the red wings boards) and I don't want to get crazy into the details because no one wants to be banned or suspended (I'm sure?):

Let's say everything goes right and you guys are willing to pay whatever his contract demands are. Would you guys lower his potential earnings with you guys because he does not have the Covid vaccine?

Personally, if this was 2020 or 2021, I could see and even make the argument that he should get a salary that is less than fair market value because he would be "working" less days/hours because he cannot go to Canada multiple times because of the quarantine rules. But because this is 2023, plenty of research papers have been made and the lifting of the quarantine rules (whether that already happened or is about to), I don't think his vaccine status should matter when it comes to his earnings potential.

So, I am curious, since you are a completely different fan base, would love some input on your thoughts.

edit: the quarantine status was lifted in OCT 2022 I see.

It would seem you answered your own question, even before the edit

In general I don’t agree with penalizing someone financially because of their own health status.

thoughts on bertuzzi so far?
Much better passer than I expected

Not the drive-the-net dirty goal machine we were promised, but has been unlucky by having 3 goals disallowed since coming here. Looked great with Krejci, not getting the finishing from Coyle and Freddy. I do think he could be a plug-in injury replacement for the top 6 if knock on wood something happens to one of the top 6. I'm very curious to see how he meshes with Hall he comes back, if he can get some of those passes he squeezes through traffic, Hallsy could snipe a few.

I am sorry, was not a fan when I saw him in Detroit, and I like him less now for exactly the same reasons. His offensive skillset is pedestrian: He is quick, and sees the ice well, but has average hands, and a very average shot. He goes into corners but only wins about half his battles, if that.
His defense is the real problem. He is lost in his own zone. He constantly chases the puck when he should be anticipating the play or zoned up.

A desperate Sweeney got taken here. Too bad because he was obviously on a hot streak.

Every time I read your scouting reports I feel like they were generated by an AI that doesn't know hockey but knows cliches.

I think Bertuzzi should be on line 2. I think he would drive the pace on that unit and he would have two RH shots to pass to and a true finisher on his neighbour wing.

I like his speed and his gusto, but too often he seems to set up a play to no one or to someone who has trouble with the heat he puts on his passes. It’s been frustrating.

I wish we would have had more time to experiment a bit with the lines and how he fits. Hall being out caused a plug-and-play approach and I don’t think it’s worked as well as we’d hoped. Not putting blame on Bertuzzi for that, to be clear. I just think it’s been an ill-fit thus far and that he’d excel in the right role.

I think we're all in the lolQuiet group right now.

I also think he should be on line 2. But I trust Monty.

Its not just his passing, his IQ is impressive.

I just don't see alot of mistakes. His stick seems to be in the right place all the time to prevent clean breakouts, he reads the defense really well when forchecking and is often in the right spot at the right time to breakup any momentum the opposing team is trying to create in their end, or the neutral zone. Sometimes i think he's using Chara's stick.

Scoreboard: One fluke goal, one. Surprisingly a plus-2 with his poor d. Must help to be on a strong team.
Man U are hard on players. I really can’t agree with you. No disrespect or anything. But I find his Iq makes him a good player. He seems to be good in all three zones and creates a lot of scoring chances. He is a top 6 player playing on the third line. This teams stacked.

If Bertuzzi didn't have that kick in called back, the goal scored on the penalty, the double doink post shot miss, I bet some people would be singing a different tune. I think he has been solid so far and has generated a lot of chances he just has 0 luck. As long as he doesn't pull a Daugavins in the playoffs I think he will be fine
