Still don’t understand what it is about how this guy plays that deserves any complaining. Very smart player who never takes a shift off.
It's because mouthbreathers see he scored 30g last year and hadn't had the finish this year, despite doing everything else extremely well.

Shrewd pickup from Sweeney.

Glad Bertuzzi is starting to look better for you guys. Was just a matter of time, the way injuries played out for him this season he just never had a chance to get the gears going.

Some fans in Detroit couldn't see the value in him. He's a player that can come out of the toughest situations with the puck and make a play. He also can hang onto the puck well and create some time and space for his team. He works and battles hard. He is the perfect player for the playoffs and suites Boston and their window well. Boston should give him the term it requires and worry about what happens on the backend of the contract later. Unfortunately, not the situation Detroit is in right now or else we wouldn't have let him go and would have got him signed. If you already have a solid core of 2-3 elite players, Bertuzzi is like everything you could ask for to compliment that.

He definitely seems a ton more comfortable here. Now you can see him smiling more and joking with the guys on the Bench

I personally think I try to make space for Bertuzzi before Orlov - wing is less important, but I think Hall is a prime trade candidate and Zacha will likely go from W to C opening up another spot on the wing. Age wise it just makes more sense to me.

Same- the d corps pre-Orlov was the best in the league as a group and will still be. Bert and Hathaway both give the Bruins things they need to keep up front.
All depends on the price. I think Orlov, Hathaway, and Bertuzzi would all be great signings, but we have a cap. You‘ve got Bergeron, Krejci, Foligno, Nosek, Freddy, Swayman and Cliffy all on expiring deals.

Something’s gotta give.

Don't see any of em signing honestly - this is their shot at biggest deals of their careers and frankly all will be over paid (particularly if they win the Cup this year).
Realistically, I think Hathaway signs. Bert is the wild card and will have nothing to do with the team but the overall feeling of being in Boston itself.

I'm just going to enjoy the ride for now :)

But there are also rumors Hall could need surgery, which would make him completely untradeable.

Hathaway's contract ceiling is pretty low, and he is finally home, so I think he can be signed more reasonably. Of course, even if only 1.5 mil or so, they may decide that guys like Steen and Lauko can play 4th line for a lot less

Yeah there are a lot of variables to consider this offseason, including if Krejci/Bergy will retire or return. Anything we discuss will be pure speculation at this point...Coyle is also a prime trade candidate for me, I would love to keep him but with the coming cap crunch I just can't justify paying guys 5+ mil to play on the 3rd line.

I was extremely hard on Sweeney in the offseason -- and obviously have had to (gladly) eat a lot of crow.

I do not envy him his job this off season though. But God it would be easier to deal with with a picture of him holding the 2023 Cup sitting on his desk.

I think he needs to get everyone in the room at the end of the season and go around and say "Ok, who wants to be back and is going to sign reasonably? You? You? You?".

I kid of course, but what a frigging puzzle he's going to have this offseason.

Not so sure Bertuzzi wouldn't be pumped at the chance of bettting on himself with a 3 year deal where he's on a line with Pasta
I really wonder what his price tag will be. He's got 28 points in 48 games in a year where he's been struggling with injury. On pace for roughly 47 points, which is the same as his first two seasons before he broke out for 30 goals and 62 points in 68 games.

If we look at last offseason, Kempe seems to be the most comparable guy and he got 5.5 mil for 4 years as a 26 year old coming off of 63 points in 80 games and back to back 35 goal seasons. Another possible comparable in Nichushkin got 6.15 mil for 8 years after his breakout season, but is likely a far better defensive player than Bert.

I would think that Bertuzzi is going to get less money and less term given his health struggles and that he's coming off a down season.

They can clear cap space by dealing Grizz and Reilly, almost six million, that is enough to sign Bertuzzi. I do that in a second. I have loved the way the Bertuzzi-Zacha-Pasta line has looked, that becomes your number 1 line for the next 4 years if you resign Bertuzzi.

Well they have to do something like that just to cover the bonus overages, etc. Doing that alone doesnt get you room for a high value contract

Ha, every trade proposal you have includes Grizz . In this case, I am inclined to agree with you for once, though

3 PP goals and 2 PP assists since being put near the crease on the PP by Monty. Would have even more had some not been called back. He has definitely been a big part of the PP showing better signs of life after a stretch of it being abysmal.

His ability to pass through traffic is Krejci-esque. Made a cross-ice pass last night through serious traffic that I thought had zero chance of reaching Pasta. It did and Pasta got off a nice one-timer. Many such cases of passing brilliance.

I feel like Bertuzzi is going to have a big playoffs. He is learning the system better game by game, and it seems like he is finally back to near 100% after recovering from his injuries. Horrid luck health-wise for him, but he has seemed good to go since joining the Bs. His shooting still hasn't fully caught back up, but that will come.

I actually think Frodo has had a good season but moving him should get you a decent return and maybe the ability go package Reilly in the deal clearing over 6 million in cap space, easily enough to resign Bertuzzi. Cap space they have now should be enough for Frederic and Swayman. That leaves them needing to move one of Hall or Coyle if they want to resign Orlov.

If Bergeron comes back you have Bergeron-Zacha-Coyle/Frederic as your top three centers and still have Bertuzzi, DeBrusk, Pasta, Marchand, Hall as your top wings. That isnt bad after an "all in" season. Can easily fill some of those bottom forward spots with Lauko, Greer, McLaughlin and possibly Lysell.
