Question for you guys (I come from the red wings boards) and I don't want to get crazy into the details because no one wants to be banned or suspended (I'm sure?):

Let's say everything goes right and you guys are willing to pay whatever his contract demands are. Would you guys lower his potential earnings with you guys because he does not have the Covid vaccine?

Personally, if this was 2020 or 2021, I could see and even make the argument that he should get a salary that is less than fair market value because he would be "working" less days/hours because he cannot go to Canada multiple times because of the quarantine rules. But because this is 2023, plenty of research papers have been made and the lifting of the quarantine rules (whether that already happened or is about to), I don't think his vaccine status should matter when it comes to his earnings potential.

So, I am curious, since you are a completely different fan base, would love some input on your thoughts.

edit: the quarantine status was lifted in OCT 2022 I see.

We dont debate Covid on this board.
Full stop.

Bertuzzi has done well with the Bs so far. A lot of really nice passes that could have set up scoring chances had his linemates decided to shoot and/or been ready for his pass. Something I noticed in both games against the Wings is what he does away from the puck. Several very noticeable times he was able to float into an empty space in a high danger area, but unfortunately his linemates didn't get him the puck. He seems sneaky in terms of being able to lose his man and find space. Hoping the coaches point that out when looking at the films, and it results in his linemates looking for him more.

Spent some time today watching some of his games with the Wings last season when he scored 30 goals. Although 23 of his 30 goals were even strength last season, dude is legit on the PP. Garbage city master in front of the net creating havoc for the goalie and D. With the Bs PP issues, I would definitely be parking his ass around the crease every chance I got on either PP1 or PP2. Also fun to watch him defend his teammates under any circumstance. Easy to see why the Wings players loved him so much.

This guy is a complete player. I think we will see more of that once he gets acclimated more to the Bs system and his teammates. If I'm Monty I give him some more games on the 2nd line. With Krejci and Bertuzzi feeding Pasta passes good things are bound to happen. Also Bertuzzi on that line gives Pasta some protection. Not sure it the production will be greater than with Zacha on the 2nd line, but I'd at least give it a string of games to see if something develops.

You make great points here. I doubt that they break up the Czech mates though.

Your point about the coaches watching Bertuzzis play preferences
makes me wonder if the Boston video staff pulled video and created
a compilation of his tendencies in the o zone and d zone for the
rest of the team to view. A lot of his play is instinctual and often I
see a lot of Foligno in his game awareness, puck distribution\protection and panic threshold. I as a player would like to see as much video as possible on a new player joining the team.

ST. PAUL — During last weekend’s home-and-home with Detroit, Tyler Bertuzzi rode with David Krejciand David Pastrnak (Saturday) and Patrice Bergeron and Brad Marchand (Sunday). That may be a one-off.

Bruins coach Jim Montgomery likes to pour different chemicals into his laboratory test tubes, especially when injuries dictate (Taylor Hall and Nick Foligno remain missing in action). He wanted to see what kind of reaction Bertuzzi’s game — strong on the walls, soft hands, good timing and vision — would have with those flammable pairs.

While neither of those lines scored with Bertuzzi on them, they both controlled shot attempts by healthy margins. Montgomery may have already had the right mix, however, with Bertuzzi to the left of Trent Frederic and Charlie Coyle.

“That line’s been really good,” Montgomery said after Thursday’s 3-0 win at Winnipeg. “I just tried something different, and was probably overcoaching, when I took him off that line.”

They have three goals in four games together, with one allowed. On Thursday, Frederic scored off a smart feed from Bertuzzi, who also set up Coyle in a similar fashion two weeks earlier against the Rangers. In a loss to the Blackhawks, Bertuzzi won a battle and delivered a sharp feed for a Frederic tap-in. Coyle’s strength on the puck has been drawing double teams, like the one that freed his mates and helped them make it 1-0 in the first minute against the Jets.

They’re producing while still finding their own chemistry, too. On Thursday, Frederic and Bertuzzi missed a few short connections that, if made, would have put the Bruins in odd-man situations.

“He sees the ice really well,” Frederic said. “He’s helping me a lot, the way he plays. Just for chances, we could have had a couple more that we just barely missed on. Chuck’s the same way. He sees it really well on that first play, just simple.”

Frederic already has career-high numbers (15-11–26 in 64 games) and has been a tough matchup on the third line.

“Freddy’s offensive confidence has really grown,” Montgomery said. “I think he knows he can score in this league. He finds those soft pockets in the offensive zone, supporting guys that like to handle the puck down low, like Coyle and Bertuzzi. He’s a really good 200-foot player.”

I'm on the fence with bringing him back. I like what I see but I don't know how important he is just yet in the grand scheme of things roster wise ( the next 3-5 years ) to move out other guys just to fit him in.

I'm in no way advocating breaking up the top 6 as currently constructed, but in case of any injury or any other circumstance that would shake things up, I thought he looked really good this weekend when he was taking shifts with Krejci. Best he's looked since arriving TBQH.

Give the guy a break. He’ll be fine. It’s been a long season for him. Two broken hands, new team and system. He’s a good player. We haven’t even seen the best of him yet. Let’s relax a bit.

Bertuzzi and Pastrnak on same line : epic

Do it Donny

As a hockey savant I’m blown away at how wrong I was about how Bertuzzi sees the game

you aint the only one.

I never realized how much hockey sense he has and gifted passing.
Exactly- I would bet Detroit will go after him considering how upset Larkin was - and a few days later signed contract

Sweeney signs him the Bruins basically replace Krejci when he goes with a plus top 6 F

Hypothetically

Marchand - Bergeron/ - DeBrusk
Bertuzzi - Zacha- Pastrnak
Hall - Coyle - Freddy

This team would be set up for another run

Not sure Krejci retires - I can see another year

The more I watch the more I realize that Bertuzzi is an insurance policy, not unlike Pevs in 2011 when Horton went down. If a top 6 wing gets hurt, Bertuzzi goes in and we're still in pretty good shape. Top 9 C goes down, Zacha slots in there and Bertuzzi goes on the wing vacated by Zacha, and we're again in okay shape. Obviously you don't want to lose a Pasta or a Bergeron, but you have to admit that Don's prepared for just about every contingency here to cover for any possibility and this team will be competitive in the playoffs.

I have always loved the way he has played and always thought it would be great to get him ,but to be honest I was a little shocked that they got him. I also thought the first few games he looked a little uncomfortable , but that last few games he seems to be fitting right in and coming at a perfect time....... I think we all have put our two cents in on who should be in or out of the lineup but to be honest these guys are making it hard for this coaching staff to make out a lineup. The players have accepted the challenge of wanting to be in the line up.....

In a post Krejci post Bergeron world you need this guy. I tried to make this lineup and couldn't make it cap compliant. That's even with trading Gryz and Hall

Bertuzzi-Zacha-Pasta
Marchand-Coyle-Debrusk
Frederic-UFA (but cheap)-Greer/Lysell
Lauko-Nosek-Hathaway

Orlov-Charlie
Hampus-Carlo
Zboril-Forbort

It seems to me like it's impossible for Orlov and Bertuzzi to both be Bruins, which sucks because frankly we'd need both. It's even harder to keep both goalies AND Freddy. I guess we need Bertuzzi much more than Orlov. I'm starting to lean that way and that breaks my heart.

I think it'll come down to re-signing Bertuzzi or trading Hall to fit Bertuzzi in.

Just no way to keep so much talent long-term unfortunately. This season has been an extreme anomaly since two top 6 centers came in on the cheap, injury situation worked out in the Bs favor, and the deadline was pure gold.

Hopefully Bertuzzi is making some good friends in Boston and will want to stay. He and Dylan can still be besties. Larkin can clean up the boat and get it ready for summer fishing while Bertuzzi is in the playoffs.

DS has a tough decision. Bert is 3 years younger than Hall. Neither player is a third liner. Top 6 is where their skillsets are. Makes no sense to have both. As I mentioned on the previous page, Bertuzzi with Pastrnak is a very interesting proposition. Bertuzzi's playmaking ability, grit, and high IQ are custom made for being on a line with an elite scorer. Zacha in the middle makes it look like a formidable line to stop. Just guessing, but I think Bertuzzi could be signed by DS to a long deal at around Hall money (maybe less) if the Bs decide they'd rather have him at 2LW than Hall. There will be a lot of teams interested in signing him, that's a given.

Bertuzzi has created a problem that did not exist before:
The Czech line has been hot all year.
Yet with Bert playing top 6 he has proven that the ol' "If it ain't broke, don't fix it"
may not be true here. Adding him to the top 6 could make it better.

I'm not advocating for any lineup changes. But Berts play has added options and ideas to Monty's arsenal that we did not have previous.

Thats a good thing and speaks well for the player.

I think it will be tough tbh

He will seek greener pastures

One would assume that the RW offered him... something like at 6 years at 5.5m per. Larkin and Bertuzzi are tight...so better to keep both. But Yzerman couldn't get it done

I hope he stays for a fair/hometown discount.

Cant pay too much...as the Bruins will also be required to pay a raise (Debrusk, Swayman)... find a top 9 C
