OT: TV & Movie Suggestions

I had no problem with how Ozark wrapped up. This was showrunner Chris Mundy's vision and he followed it. Nothing that happened in the finale should surprise anyone. How things played out was clearly foreshadowed. When people complain that a series didn't end the way they wanted it to, I have this advice. Start writing scripts, get yourself an agent and sell your vision to Netflix or whomever.

Agreed. I'm not sure why there's angst about the ending. If you were watching and paying attention, you pretty much knew in advance who was going to walk away and who wasn't at the end of that. Not that I didn't want a different outcome for certain people (because I did), but the ending was in line with the rest of the show.

I'm at peace with it. I think some things could have been excuted better. But I do believe that....

Viewers had this absolute disdain for Wendy that unless she died the show ending would not be satisfying. I think that has clouded a lot of judgement from people that I have discussed the ending with at this point. Ruth dying, like you said, was foreshadowed a ton, especially in the last season, and was the final loose end to tie on the Langmore tragedy. It was building to that moment. It is not the "worst ending ever" like people are making it out to be.

Besides really wanting Ruth to make it, the only thing I wasn't a fan of is Jonah at the end. And I get what they're going for there, it feels a little full circle, and "this is who the Byrds are" type thing. Like don't go against the family. But that little brat spent the entire season and more being a whiny bitch and complaining about everything his parents were doing. Which he is ok to do of course when your parents are involved in money laundering and drug trafficking for a Mexican cartel, and also involved in murders. :) But then he does a 180 heel turn at the end.
Is my spoiler tag working correctly?

Works for me, Huffer.

Moar Ozark spoilz:

I think that's really what they were trying to showcase, personally; no matter what happens or comes between them, it's all about one thing -- family. And then you have the juxtaposition of the Byrde's who sort of get out "unscathed" but the Langmore's obviously lose everybody and everything. Well, except for Three, who I guess is basking in his new found riches and has a pretty damn cool new pool.

Felt like they kind of had points in the past seasons where Charlotte was the annoying, whiny kid and then it transferred over to Jonah down the final stretch. The car crash seemed to be the turning point which ultimately brought all of them together and put into perspective how fragile life is and what they mean to each other. As if constant dust ups with cartel members and psychotic Ozark hicks wasn't enough, but alas.

Jonah being the one to step out with the gun and essentially fend off the PI from the Byrde family is definitely a full circle feeling. It's kind of the final chapter that they are all together as one unit which I believe was the main point the writers were trying to drive home. Casino money, cartel death, etc. --- ups and downs-- they will always have the Byrde clan.

I'm not so sure I agree 100% with your policework there Lou

So all movie's and shows have to be accepted as is with no criticism as long as that is how the writer intended it? Can't bitch that we thought it was shitty we have to write our own scripts now lol?

I think there are many legitimate criticisms that can be levelled at shows such as something was just badly written (cough Seinfeld finale cough), or a character's actions were completely inconsistent with what had gone before and made no sense. To me, the Ozark story as it played out rang true and I'm not going to complain about who died or didn't die according to my preferences.

Well, that’s one way of looking at it and although I respect your opinion I see it differently. For me Season 3 was strong but they totally lost me on the drug cartel story arc in season 4. For me it got progressively worse as it wound down. I struggled to finish the series after the restart.

Fair enough. At least now I know what it was you didn't like. Still, could have been worse. ;)

Incoming @JetsFan815 in 3... 2...

I just watched the first episode of "Shoresy"...

Jared Keeso is unmasked as "Shoresy"... he is Shoresy...

The early part is fast paced full out Shorsey...

I laughed My head off... Keeso is an animal and obviously is a total hockey fanatic and monster chirper...

:thumbu:

I highly recommend it to those that played enough hockey to appreciate this level of degeneracy...

This new season of Stranger Things is best yet IMO. Can't wait for Vol 2. If you haven't watched this show yet I don't know what rock you live under.

Yeah it is utterly fantastic. Absolutely amazing writing with numerous plot twists and curve balls thrown.

Definitely the best show going these days imo.

I had low expectations for Stranger Things after not loving many aspects of season 3. I've only watched 3 episodes so far, but I'm very pleasantly surprised.

I AM having some issues buying Caleb McLaughlin as a freshman in high school though.

Yeah out of all the kids he has definitely physically matured the most. But I mean I went to school with kids who were 6'5 by 15. Some kids just get there a lot quicker.

Better Call Sul really picked up last episode. Typicall Vince Gilligan style, you have a slow climb to the top of the roller coaster, then all hell breaks loose.

Barry has been pretty crazy this year, highly recommend it.

Stranger Things is f'ing intense this season, wife stopped watching, can't handle it.

They really up the anti this season in ST. Seems they are growing with their initial audience which I always find refreshing.

Yeah it was pretty dark and intense. Can't wait for part 2. I just don't know how they can top this for season 5. The new villain is way more captivating then the mind flayer.

I've got a theory (spoilers if you haven't watched Season 4 Vol 1 yet) about who the big bad will be in season 5.

I think that Will is going to end up doing an Anakin and turning to the dark side. This one almost seems inevitable to me. He's taken a backseat to the group in multiple seasons now leading up to this season. And he's the only one the monsters of the upside down didn't outright kill on the spot. They dragged him into the upside down, almost as a ploy to meet him pr possibly gauge his power. I think he ultimately confesses his love for Mike, because let's face it we all know he does at this point, and he gets rejected. He grows even more distant from the group as a result and Vecna turns him. They have made multiple hints throughout the years that Will is a sensitive child. The same things they said about Vecna when he was a kid.

Just finished episode 7 of Stranger Things. The first couple episodes of season 4 may scare away those who are more squeamish or don't like horror imagery. But the rest of the season transitions back into adventure/suspense/action mode. It's fantastic!

Maybe I just watch way to much horror and play way to many games. But I find the horror in Stranger Things this season to be pretty light. It's a lot more than they had in other seasons but its definitely not high on the "oh wow I gotta look away for a second" scale for me.

Maybe I'm just broken though.

I call it "understanding that it's not real". There are lots of things I just don't want to watch IRL. But fiction? Bring it!

Agreed.. some people though won't like the cracking.. haha.

OK homies

I have a choice to make. I have never watched Better call Saul or Stranger Things. I was a big Breaking Bad fan and I am a boomer so will I get the schtick of Stranger Things?

Thoughts?
