Certainly ahead of Parise, Pacioretty, Pavelski, and most of the forwards below him.

I love TJ, but i would say you could make an argument that patches is a better player right now. Maybe he doesn't have the room to grow that TJ does, but 10 more goals and a imo patches is better defensively.

Not trying to start an internet argument, just wanted to let you know not everyone would agree with what you said.

toews is the golden boy to canada and canadians, no other 60-70 point player would consistently get rated so highly
Sportsnet and The Hockey News also rank Toews at #2.

Who's the best player in the NHL for 2015-16?

Puck Daddy

The Hockey News released its 2015-16 NHL Yearbook, which our own Sean Leahy carries around like a kid at seminary school clutching his Testaments.

Within its pages is the annual Top 50 player ranking, and SwissHabs has captured part of the list for 2015-16; we’re guessing it caught their eye because a certain Montreal Canadiens goaltender is ranked No. 1.

Jonathan Toews of the Chicago Blackhawks moves up from No. 3 to No. 2, while Sidney Crosby of the Pittsburgh Penguins drops from No. 1 to No. 4. New to the Top 20 are Victor Hedman (No. 45 last season), Erik Karlsson (No. 27, somehow, last season) and Pekka Rinne, who was unranked due to injury last season.

...

And for the graphically challenged, the list:

1. Carey Price, Montreal Canadiens

2. Jonathan Toews, Chicago Blackhawks

3. Alex Ovechkin, Washington Capitals

4. Sidney Crosby, Pittsburgh Penguins

5. Duncan Keith, Chicago Blackhawks

6. John Tavares, New York Islanders

7. Erik Karlsson, Ottawa Senators

8. Drew Doughty, Los Angeles Kings

9. Steven Stamkos, Tampa Bay Lightning

10. Victor Hedman, Tampa Bay Lightning

11. Patrick Kane, Chicago Blackhawks

(Ed. Note: THN notes that Kane has “replaced Pavel Datsyuk as the league’s preeminent dangler,” which is … descriptive.)

12. Jamie Benn, Dallas Stars

13. Anze Kopitar, Los Angeles Kings

GREATEST NHL PLAYERS RIGHT NOW
Lots of Canadians, but some Russians,
a Swede and even a Slovenian.

10. John Tavares is not the fastest guy in the game, but he more than makes up for it with his great stickhandling, passing and shooting.

9. Anze Kopitar doesn’t get a ton of attention, but he’s a force on offence and defence.

8. As a defenceman, Drew Doughty can do it all, and saves his best hockey for the playoffs.

7. Evgeni Malkin’s combination of size and skill is almost unfair. When he’s on, he is basically unstoppable.

6. Ryan Getzlaf is skilled and a little mean, which is a great combination in hockey.

5. Henrik Lundqvist is consistently at the top of everyone’s list for best goalie. That’s why they call him “The King.”

4. Nobody in the NHL fills the net quite like Alex Ovechkin.

3. Steven Stamkos skates like the wind and shoots like a cannon.

2. They call Jonathan Toews “Captain Serious,” and with two Stanley Cups and two Olympic gold medals on his resumé, he doesn’t fool around when it comes to winning.

1. There are plenty of challengers to Sidney Crosby, but “Sid the Kid” remains hockey’s golden boy.
Among the Canadian media and Canadian NHL analysts, it appears the consensus is that Jonathan Toews is the second-best player in the NHL.

Everyone everywhere knows Toews is the 2nd best player in hockey, excluding HF that is...

Here he can barely crack people's lists of top 10 centers. Its a joke.

I couldn't list all the great players that came between Lemieux and McDavid (there are a LOT of them), but Lindros definitely belongs in that list too.

I dont' remember a player who was so hyped yet lived up to his expectations inch by inch.

People will say McDavid is the next Gretzky / Lemieux mix but everyone knew about Eric Lindros since he was 12. By the age of 18 he played for team Canada in every level including Canada Cup ( which is current version of Olympic team )

McDavid isn't the best player since Lemieux, that would be Lindros

Except the thread where torts just said he was the best...so obviously he doesn't know he's second.

And I haven't seen anyone honestly rate Toews outside the top 10 centers. He usually seems to slot into the 3-8 range.

Quick is underrated by a vocal segment of HF Boards - Kings fans know the difference he's made for this team over the years. That said, I would have Jeff Carter somewhere on this list instead of Quick at this point.

Lindros was overrated. Prima Donna.

Ovechkin was the best skater last season as voted by the Hart voters as well as the players (that was all of four Months ago). These are the same TSN clowns that had Ovechkin, what, 12th last year?

Now the guy is fifth? Other than blatant Canadian bias from a group of Canadians catering to what they perceive as homerific Canadian fans, what else could possibly explain it?

McDavid doesn't even need to be as good as Crosby, OV, or Malkin to be one of the top 50 players in the league, what are people arguing about them for?

congrats you are citing people who buy into mania and intangible narratives, 60-70 point forwards are not top 2 in the league if his name wasn't toews and instead it was bergeron this garbage wouldn't be happening

Toews is #2
Kopitar is #17
Datsyuk is #23

????

What makes Toews so much better than those 2? And what does Malkin have to do to get any respect? I constantly see him outside the top 10 in these lists. Ridiculous
