Wait, you mean how he's already had a career year in his first season with the Flames playing a full 82 game schedule?

Man, if you thought this season was bad, I can't wait for him to improve. :amazed:

Larsson is a good defender. Oilers fans should see what they have in him before trying to acquire another piece, unless you can offload Sekera or something, concerning contracts and roster spots for the expansion draft.

He was absolutely brutal early in the season. New team, so a part of that I get. But he still ended up as a #5 in TOI/GP...when Dennis freaking Wideman is getting more ice time, that's not screaming Dominant Force to me.

I agree on standing pat. Sekera's got a NTC so I don't see that happening, and even then it's a pretty lateral move of a #3 for a #3 so that's a little 'meh' to me. While I love the look of..

Klefbom-Larsson
Sekera-Trouba

I wouldn't pay what the Jets are likely to be asking. The Oilers made their sell-the-farm move for a young RHD already, and Trouba's a little too high risk for my liking. Even Nurse is a maybe for me, personally. I get that Trouba's the better player right now, but Nurse is expansion exempt, about 1/6th the cost, and in my mind isn't going to turn out worse than a 2nd pair guy which is what Trouba is at the moment.

Jets statement:

“We are aware of the statement issued by Kurt Overhardt regarding Jacob Trouba.

Over the last three seasons, Jacob Trouba has played a key role for the Winnipeg Jets and in our view still represents an important part of the long-term future of our club. As such, any decisions made regarding Jacob Trouba will be made in the best interest of the Winnipeg Jets Hockey Club.

As an unsigned player, we cannot compel Jacob to report to training camp at this time. However, we will continue to work diligently to resolve this matter. We will have no further comment on this matter until such time as it is resolved.â€

I have to laugh at Jets have that try to compare Trouba's situation to Drouin, Drouin had a contract big difference, I also have to laugh at those saying that Chevy should force him to sit out till he gets fair value in trade. You do realize the longer Trouba sits out the lower "fair value" gets in trade

"Fair value" is whatever a team is willing to pay for him. Since the issue is that Trouba doesn't want to play outside of his traditional role, there is nothing that devalues him since his demand is quite reasonable. Given the obvious demand across the league for a player like Trouba, lowballers need not apply, even if Trouba sits.

Again, just to remind everyone:

-There are NO KNOWN CONTRACT DEMANDS other than to play RHD.
-He has no issues with the team or city. It's a question of USAGE, nothing else.

Canadiens desperately need a RD to play with Weber. Unfortunately, they have nothing of real value to trade except futures.

It was a bad decision not to give up Nurse for Hamilton then and it would be an even worse decision not to give up Nurse++ for Trouba. Trouba is an established top pairing two-way RHD. He's better than Rielly, Larsson, Ristolainen, etc. Leafs fans and Oilers fans and everyone else likes to **** on this guy because Jets fans can be kinda annoying sometimes, but Trouba is the real deal and he's become ridiculously underrated on HF.

Wow man usually your posts are pretty good but you are waaaaay out to lunch on Trouba. If you think he is better than any of those guys I dont even know what to say

At this point I don't care if sitting him lowers his value. Agents like Overhardt and RFA's
running to the media trying to force trades need to be sent a message.

Match offer sheets, ignore trade offers that aren't reasonable and bury this kids career if it doesn't help improve the Jets. Sometimes spite feels great !

Somewhat related to the thread, but Rielly is CURRENTLY not a #1D, nor a #2D. He's a very good #3D right now. He has to get a LOT better defensively still to be in the top-pairing level. Trouba as well, he's a high-end #3D just like Rielly.

I just like Rielly's upside more than Troubas.

let him sit all year as a **** you to him and his agent, then dump him. What sort of underachieving 22 gets to make any sort of demands?
I'm glad Jets fans are finally admitting it

I think PHI are perfect partners for the Jets. They got the prospects (especially on D) to facilitate a trade. And PHI needs a RHD. Trouba is perfect for them. They also have Provorov to dangle to the Jets
With what cap space?

Jets fan here.

Not sure why people think we need to eat crow about anything. When your player has Overhardt as his agent, then it is natural to get worried that it won't be a clean negotiation.

As for Trouba's contract demands, I think the market has been set for him for awhile. I don't think he is looking for an overpay but rather, to get the right opportunity to enhance his ability to get a great UFA contract. That wasn't happening in Winnipeg for him so I understand why he would be interested in a trade.

As for whether this hurts Winnipeg's leverage in trade discussions, not really. We're going even younger this year, we have the Laine buzz, and we're not expecting this to be a serious playoff year. Chevy can wait until he gets his price like he always does.

You guys can throw out low ball offers all you want but ultimately, it's Chevy that cuts the deal and he's going to get his demands met eventually for a highly sought position.

What would Winnipeg want? It would be nice to get a premium LHD. Not sure we get it. Perhaps we get a serviceable veteran d-man and the value is a great prospect that accompanies it.
