But at the end of a 2 year bridge he is still under team control, so the team that acquires him now gets a season and 3/4 to sell him on their city. If not, they can move him. And according to WPG he is worth a top pairing defender and a top 6 winger.
What does the acquiring team have to lose? They get a top 4 defender for 2 year and they can then either re sign him or flip him.
Sounds like a win - win to me
Trouba can file for arbitration after a two year bridge. Likely the arbitration solution is for a single year and then Trouba is UFA early. Who's going to trade assets for a guy that can walk? Sure, they'll trade something but only in the manner as you might see a trade for a pending UFA so that a team can get early negotiating rights before the UFA period starts up. So the return the Jets are then looking at is what? A sixth round pick at best? The same goes for the acquiring team. Trouba doesn't like the location, the GM, the toilet paper in the locker room? File for arbitration after not being willing to re-up.
Overhardt and Trouba are hosing the Jets by their behaviors. Teams know whether Trouba will report to them, contract in hand or not. By all reports he won't go anywhere in Canada. I'd have to suspect he won't report to a number of US franchises either for whatever reasons he has for not playing elsewhere.
