But at the end of a 2 year bridge he is still under team control, so the team that acquires him now gets a season and 3/4 to sell him on their city. If not, they can move him. And according to WPG he is worth a top pairing defender and a top 6 winger.

What does the acquiring team have to lose? They get a top 4 defender for 2 year and they can then either re sign him or flip him.

Sounds like a win - win to me

Trouba can file for arbitration after a two year bridge. Likely the arbitration solution is for a single year and then Trouba is UFA early. Who's going to trade assets for a guy that can walk? Sure, they'll trade something but only in the manner as you might see a trade for a pending UFA so that a team can get early negotiating rights before the UFA period starts up. So the return the Jets are then looking at is what? A sixth round pick at best? The same goes for the acquiring team. Trouba doesn't like the location, the GM, the toilet paper in the locker room? File for arbitration after not being willing to re-up.

Overhardt and Trouba are hosing the Jets by their behaviors. Teams know whether Trouba will report to them, contract in hand or not. By all reports he won't go anywhere in Canada. I'd have to suspect he won't report to a number of US franchises either for whatever reasons he has for not playing elsewhere.

OMG, why would I ever trade for anyone who wasn't under contract for the CBA max of 8 years? He may decide that in 7 years he doesn't want to resign?

Cmon. You have 2 years to sell your franchise and city along with an extra year on a contract to get him to sign. If he doesn't like your city and franchise you have already banked the two years he gave you, plus the assets you get in a trade.

Trouba knows he will eventually be paid enough to last a lifetime regardless. He is choosing his significant other over easing a headache. Who cares if you agree or not. He sees this as his only way to ensure that he gets to move to the U.S. If he signs a bridge I'd be surprised. Or signs at all.

Realistically, whatever contract he signs when he eventually signs a long term contract will be enough to retire on. However he actually needs to sign that first before he can bank on it lasting a lifetime. Additionally, if he doesn't sign a contract in the next 3 weeks or so, he has 2 options:

1 is go play overseas. Won't make nearly as much, but will at least be earning something decent. However that's a hell of a lot farther away from his GF and family then Winnipeg or wherever he may end up getting traded to is.
2 is sit for the rest of the season. Sure he'd get to spend more time with family, but that's a year of lost income that he will never ever be able to get back. And it's absolutely going to hurt whatever contract he eventually does end up signing. Additionally, it leaves him in the same situation he's in now, with no contract in place, not earning any money, and still owing Winnipeg those 4 years.

I think it's going to be incredibly unlikely that he doesn't sign a contract with someone prior to Dec 1st. And if I was going to bet on it, it would be that he'll sign a 2 yr contract with Winnipeg.

Trouba is overrated and he thinks he is much better than he actually is.
I hope Chevy dumps him on a team and gets a great return.

Good riddance to Trouba.

Hmm, condescending and building a strawman at the same time? Well done. :)

I'm not contending you can only sign a guy for 8 years (or 7 or 6 or 5). I'm contending every team in the league knows whether Trouba will report to them or not. Because of that a two year deal with the Jets poisons the return for them. The trade market has been limited by Trouba/Overhardt already. That's hardly a good faith arrangement. Plus it ignores the contentions that Trouba has already kiboshed trades to Canadian teams.

How exactly do you get two years to sell the city if Trouba refuses to report? I would be willing to bet Overhardt has spoken to each and every GM in the league to indicate whether his client will report following a trade or at the very least the likelihood or re-signing with that team.

The restrictions I'm taking about are not legal ones like in a contract but rather what JT has had his agent tell teams that are interested in him. All GM's already know whether or not JT is interested in playing there.

And that matters why/how? The moment he's under contract JT/his agent cannot talk to other teams. Neither does JT have any control over things until his current contract expires - which only happens if he plays it out.

So, if he's signed to a bridge deal it will still restrict the teams he can be traded to as only teams he would re-up with would be in on the bidding. Giving him more control. A longer term deal at a reasonable cost and he becomes more valuable to the teams he likes (as they don't have to worry about JT going back on his word or asking for a ton of $ in 2 years) and maybe even some he doesn't.

That's why long term is in the best interest of the Jets.

Sure it is, but that doesn't mean he'll sign it. Here's two questions for you.
1) What's in Winnipeg's best interests?
A) Allowing Trouba to sit for an entire season and having to deal with the same BS 6 months from now OR
B) Signing him to a 2 year contract where the team can either play him or trade him to anyone they want?

2) Does Trouba's value remain the exact same, increase or decrease if he sits for the season? I mean do you really think that his value (whatever it may currently be to a team that he'd sign a long term contract with) will still be the same in June 2017 if he did not play in the NHL for the 16/17 season?

Why not just let him negotiate a contract with whatever team the Jets work out a trade with? Assuming he gets traded and really wants to go to team X or team Y, there's really not much point in Chevy giving him a 5.5x6 year contract. Maybe Trouba would agree to a 5mil/year contract to team X or Y because he really wants to go there (which would likely bump his value).

He as a RFA can already negotiate a contract with any team in the league. However he won't sign one, because Winnipeg would match whatever he signed, and then he's stuck there just like Kane was until Chevy decides to trade him. The issue is that Winnipeg obviously hasn't gotten a trade offer they like from one of the teams Trouba would sign a long term contract with.

Trade Trouba in a deal for RNH

I've thought the same thing before. Not 100% sure I'd do it. But Jets need another really good center as much as they need Trouba imo

RNH salary is a bit much but if Oilers retained 33% on him, that would put his salary near Little.

Edmonton is rolling though, doubt hey want to be making any trades at he moment.

As an Oilers fan I'd do it but wouldn't retain. Jets could send back a contract if they want; maybe Trouba's bestest friend in the whole wide world, one Mark Stuart? :naughty:

Edmonton = Canada

It would be a lot easier for Edmonton to flip Trouba for an RHD than Winnipeg for an LHD, especially since the Oilers would likely be interested in a wider range of ages and skillsets than the Jets purportedly are.

Really, pick a right-handed defender signed for more than one year who can quarterback a powerplay and that's a player who can help the Oilers. That list is probably bigger than "bluechip young D who is Trouba's mirror image".

I see no point involving Edmonton.

Who's gonna want a player that missed a whole year at 22? Less people than would want the same player without missing a crucial development year I'd bet. If NYR trades for Vatanen or Shattenkirk or has Skjei come a long way, there's a big suitor gone. If Boston does something to get someone who can actually help them this year there's another. I can't speak for Boston but it's been reported repeatedly that NYR are going to bolster their D this year. If Trouba isn't eligible to play, there's at least one team that won't be in for him next year. Then take away all the teams Trouba doesn't want to play for. The tight spot Chevy is in just gets tighter and tighter.

Also NYR are .5 years younger than WPG based on opening day rosters and they're playing 3 rookies every night. So much for that tired argument. And WPG needs an awful lot as evidenced by their GM and fans writing this year off before it even started and by their performance so far. Many, if not most, of our wingers would be upgrades on anyone but Wheeler, Laine and Ehlers.

Obviously the answer to who will want him , with the fact there are VII threads about him, is pretty will everyone. I do like you if if if story though. There are only so many young quality dmen like Trouba available in the NHL. The fact that the Jets can't find anyone that is willing to give up an equal left handed version show they are even less available. You keep hoping for your blossoming skjei player though. The fact that Brendan Kitchen is a better prospect with higher results, and he hasn't even had a sniff at the NHL...tells me a lot.

You really should brush up on your Googling skills. The Jets are the second youngest team average (25.75) in the league just behind Buffalo. They are over 1 years younger on average than the Rangers (26.887).

You should also learn to Google "Jets team roster" and you would find we also have....Schiefele, Little, Buff, Myers, Enstrom along with the 3 you mentioned who with out even looking would jump right in as 8 of the top players on the Rangers...and counting Trouba...that makes 9. That is if they could beat out Tanner Glass....doesn't he still play for you guys?

If you want people to take you seriously, you really should provide facts instead of spewing out the crap your are posting instead of just throwing out your random opinion. Basing your reputation on incorrect information just makes you look foolish. Google only has one field and one button.... master that, then come back and tell us how no one wants Trouba.

Anything related to Trouba starts with Sergachev.

Anything related to Ehlers simply doesn't start.

Are you really trying to say the Jets roster is better than the NYR? That's what it sounds like to me. Very much like....how did you word it....random crap spewing opinion. Something like that.

I forgot, you have no need for any of NYRs players because your team is so good.
