For what it's worth, those are Elliote Friedman's words, not Kevin Cheveldayoff's.

Friedman had initially been operating under the assumption that the Jets were actively seeking to trade Trouba - at least until his interactions with him this past weekend in Winnipeg. Then he apparently came to the realization that the GM isn't waffling here, and isn't likely to.

So he was wrong initially and now you want to hang your hat on his conjecture?

My point is no one knows what the asking price really is. We know teams have kicked the can without luck. We know that Kevin Cheveldayoff has been completely tight-lipped other than to say "We'll do what's best for the org." To go from that quote to "nothing less than young, elite, cost-controlled player" is ridiculous. But it's what Friedman is paid to publish.

So please stop thrusting Friedman's musings down everyone's throat and trying to cut short the discussion around here. You did this on the Rangers' board too.

Got to think with Lindholm now signed, something happens with Trouba soon. Got to think Boston may kick the tires on him now given their poor performance last night.

Friedman is easily the most respected reporter in the league. His musings now reflect those of the local reporters here as well. If you wish to ignore that reality, fine. BTW, unless you are a mod, you have no right to presume to tell me what I can post and where I can post it, FYI. Feel free to discuss whatever you wish, and I will do the same.

Are they citing internal sources or are they citing Friedman?

Friedman is no hack......He chooses his words very carefully and has many many sources that he uses to form his opinions. He is not always correct but I don't think he is one who puts out opinions just to sell newspapers of get web clicks .

Of course he is not Chevy or Trouba that goes without saying

Yes, lower contract demands can't hurt the return.

Maybe this changes Trouba's demand, or maybe not. If he will sign for less now, I could see a team increasing their offer. Any team trading for him will have already talked to his agent to work out a deal. I don't think this was ever about money, just the opportunity to be a 1RHD that doesn't exist on the Jets.

Its pretty bad when the Oilers have had little interest in Trouba.
He's not as good as he/agent thinks or Chevy would have signed him by now. He's also not as good as Chevy thinks he is or he would have been traded by now(requested last May). Weird situation

*edit* I'll be less snarky.

We get it.

You don't think Trouba is as valuable as the rest of us do.

That being said, "He's not as good as he/agent thinks or Chevy would have signed him by now." shows how much you've paid attention to the situation.

I'm saying that Friedman's words are now in line with the locals; the answer to your question should really be self-evident.

Remember when you were going around using the words of the locals to definitively tell everyone that Trouba wasn't on the block and didn't at all want out of WPG and was perfectly happy there?

Maybe you should think that when it comes to negotiations, hanging your hat on anything said publicly by anyone is rather risky.

Let's get real...The reason EDM has little interest is because they have been told he doesn't want to sign there.

Actually, all I said was, at that time, there were no reports he was available in trade, because there weren't at the time. Feel free to paraphrase while building a strawman though.

Friedman is clearly saying what he is saying now because it reflects what he encountered when in Winnipeg this past weekend, he even prefaced his comments essentially in that manner.

I would also abide by what Friedman has reported. He seems quite sure of the pivot he has made.

As an aside: Friedman is great but he's no Bob McKenzie... let's set things straight here.

It was never about money, that's clear. IMO and many others the whole positional excuse is just that an excuse. He doesn't want to play in the Peg b/c it's in Canada (speculation) and a small market.

However, he will be signed and playing with the jets before the end of November. No team will meet Chevy's demand and Trouba will not give up a year.

I think it has more to do with Winnipeg than Canada.

After the game against the Leafs, I'm not confident at all that Gardiner belongs to the top 4. :)

Ya...i keep trying to gauge Trouba's value by watching him play games this season as well...oh ya, that's right.....:)
