7 weeks later and Trouba's value will be even lower on my opinion... The more need the jets have to move him the lower the theoretical return becomes. However a bidding war can change that real fast.

This is definitely a complicated situation, a highly desirable player that every gm knows needs to be moved...

Needs to be moved? That's not how I would put it, more like he might be moved under the right conditions. Trouba will not sit out a year, he will come crawling back tail between his legs late Nov and sign a contract. If between now and then Chevy gets a great trade offer he might be traded.

It is so nice to see all these non Jets fans concerned about the potential return the Jets will or will not get for Trouba. Not to mention the fact that they want to save our coach from being fired and the ensure the Jets make the payoffs by trading Trouba for lessor return because he has little or no value now.

You can just feel the LOVE in the air now.

I just logged onto this page and for some reason there appears to be sarcasm dripping from my computer.

conversely, it's nice of Jets fans to remind us of the greatness of Trouba and that his return according to some should be nothing less then a prime Bobby Orr.

sarcasm can run both ways...

I personally don't care what happens to Trouba ( unless of course he goes to the Bruins ) and the Jets are nothing but an afterthought to me

With Kucherov and Gaudreau signing as of late and the season starting tomorrow got to think something will happen with Trouba soon.

Those two signing has nothing to do with Trouba. He is not signing a deal for whatever reason with us, so the next step will be a trade.

I hope Trouba has a comfortable chair to sit on. It looks like he'll be doing just that for a while.

the difference is that in the case of these players re-signing, there are multiple ways both sides can cave and compromise. They can play around with AAV, term, and NMCs.

With the Trouba situation, it's Chevy that would have to cave, and he'd have to cave by accepting poor value for his player, and that's the only meaningful compromise. The front runners to trade for Trouba would likely be more than okay with waiting this out. Even if the team trading for Trouba compromises, it wouldn't be a compromise of giving Winnipeg a better player. It would be just adding an inconsequential pick. Winnipeg does need that.

Jets nation is not expecting anything soon. Personally I expect nothing till mid-late Nov, no biggie either way.

Jets must feel very confident in the Defence if they can stand to leave a player like Trouba on the sidelines.

It looks to me like he just doesn't want to be there. It's usually best just to recognize that, and move him for the best possible return. I would think that return would be quite large if the Jets would move off their stance of needing a young, top 4 LHD in return...

Perhaps they will fel more confident about moving him if Morrisey continues to play well during the next few weeks.

Maybe with a couple higher profile RFA's signing below expected market value contracts Trouba will too thus increasing his trade value.:D

No way they give him that option.

If he gets a bridge, then he just goes to arbitration after, gets his 1 year contract, and bolts out ASAP.

So you are saying the Jets don't want to pay fair market value? So, not only should he have no rights in his ELC years, his RFA years, but the Jets also want to hold him into his UFA years as well on an RFA discount contract.

Tell me again why he would want to play for the Jets? Seems like they want to screw him for his entire career.

I think trouba signs a bridge deal with the jets still...

maybe, but the big problem with that is the reason he is demanding a trade in the first place. He wants out because of his usage. If he signs a bridge deal, the problems with usage will erode his stats and also likely his development, so it destroys any chance of him cashing in on the next deal.

That's pretty accurate. There's much less of a negotiation going on here. It's more of a "who blinks first".

If Chevy folds - perhaps under pressure to get some kind of return for Trouba to help with this season - Trouba is traded for a bad return (whether value or fit or both).

If Trouba folds - perhaps under pressure to not throw away a whole season and salary - he signs with the Jets. Maybe with some gentleman's agreement that Chevy keeps looking for a trade partner.

If a trade partner folds - perhaps under pressure if the trade heats up, and Trouba fixes an apparent weakness/injury in their roster - Chevy gets what he wants in trade return. Both Chevy and Trouba are happy... provided Trouba is ok with the trade destination.

There's a little wiggle room in each of those scenarios, but not much. On HFJets, some of us would be ok with a decent middle-pairing D (not as good as Trouba), along with a good D prospect (the only weakness in our prospect pool).

It's been discussed before but he absolutely just want out. A few weeks ago, his agent said they haven't agreed to look at even 1 offer from the Jets.

It's not about money.

It's not about position.

It's about him wanting out.

So. Now. What do you do with that?

Trading him at a lower value simply to be rid of him is not an option....in my opinion. The Jets are in uncharted waters at this point. The team has very VERY talented youth and are primed to finally grow into a contender.

What does it say to all the young talent if the Jets instantly bend backwards to accommodate Trouba in a situation where he has no leverage? It says that, as an organization, they can be walked all over. Now this isn't about revenge. It's about setting a precedent. It says "If you want to play hardball, there's the batter's box. Lets play."

So....what do you do with that?

Well...2 things. You either get an offer that you believe is fair, or you let him sit until he signs a contract.

Chevy is going to do 1 thing and 1 thing only....what's best for the Jets.

If there's one thing that man is, it's patient.

He has all the cards.

He has all the chips.

He owns the table.

He owns the building.

He owns the block.

If Trouba believes that sitting out the whole year is better than playing for the Jets, then so be it. The one thing he can't be about it, is pissy.

Your point would be valid if the Jets were being cheap and not willing to pay.

The thing with that is, his agent confirmed that they haven't even opened their eyes to look at one offer.

How can the Jets be lowballing a guy when he won't even pick up the phone?

As for all that stuff about ELC, and RFA, he's choosing to play in this league. If he doesn't like how the league rules pertain to his situation, well then Russia is just a plane ride away.

I agree. In this case, the best possible return isn't going to come with him unsigned.

Second, young, high-end D (so...Trouba) is the Jets' greatest need, by far.

Third, before last year both coaching staff and management said the Jets were going to get "painfully young". The Jets ended up 24th in the league. They also said the team is poised to get even younger this year, so unless something unforeseen happens no one's job is on the line in the short term. And picking up some losses is not unforeseen.

So you are saying the Jets don't want to pay fair market value? So, not only should he have no rights in his ELC years, his RFA years, but the Jets also want to hold him into his UFA years as well on an RFA discount contract.

What on Earth is this?

Teams try to get discounted UFA years by buying them at the same time as RFA years.

Every team does it.

What are you frothing about?

7 weeks from now his value is exactly what it is now, a young top pairing D the Jets control for at least 4 more years.
The more need the jets have to move him the lower the theoretical return becomes.
Nope. Firstly, the Jets don’t need to move him, there is no pressure on them, to do anything. Conversely, unless they pull a Sweeny and don’t even shop him around, some team will outbid any bargain price. Previous management incompetence in other organizations doesn’t imply similar management incompetence here.

This is definitely a complicated situation, a highly desirable player that every gm knows needs to be moved...
Again, the Jets don’t need to move him, they control his rights for 4 more years, 5 if he decides not to play in the NHL this year.

They also have young talented players or quality veterans with term at every spot in the lineup except possibly the left side of the top pairing where Trouba was slotted to play. Not only don’t they not need to fill any other spot in the roster they don’t even have room.

Overhardt has a track record of holding out into the season and the Jets don’t have any incentive to give them the trade they want. I doubt anything happens before mid-late November.

This isn’t Chiarelli we are talking about ;)

There is zero incentive for the Jets to trade Trouba for anything other than what Chevy is already asking for. Anything else does nothing for the team. Conversely if Trouba doesn’t sign he not only looses a years salary, he waits another year before he gets to UFA status.

Their defence definitely suffers with him on the sidelines, but trading him for something other than the top pairing LHD spot he would occupy doesn’t help that situation.
