The question specifically was what if Buff or Myers came in tomorrow and said I'll play the left side. If they did that would he sign a contract?
Overhardt tripped over his words to say "what if I asked you if the moon was blue... er orange? We're not going to deal in hypotheticals that would never happen."
The "right side" claim is a ruse, a sham, an excuse.
He knows if he comes right out and says I want to play closer to home in the states so my dad can build some brand empire around him that he would be vilified by basically EVERYONE.
It's been stated MANY times but he was guaranteed the top pair spot with BUFF. And even when he played 3rd pair RHD he was in the top 35 of D minutes played in the NHL. (more than Myers already)
We look forward to the return of Jacob (or his trade replacements) in the nearish future. For the meantime I just pretend he's injured.
You put wayyy too much stock in promises. They don't mean a thing. If Myers or Buff say they would play the left side, that's no guarantee that they actually will, and it's really up to the coach if they do. It's just a dumb hypothetical that's not worth the agent acknowledging. Once the ink dries on the contract, the promises evaporate and Trouba has no power anymore.
Trouba is also definitely not guaranteed the spot next to Buff at all, despite what anyone says. If Morrissey or another LHD take a step forward then Trouba gets knocked down the depth chart again. If Trouba struggles at all, then they will have no patience with him, just like what was the case last season.
Nevermind that Trouba might feel that playing LHD might diminish his career even if it is next to a great D like Buff.
The only answer with any substantiation is usage. Everything else is just wild speculation with no basis.
