Unless you guys get off to a bad start, then fans will be pissed your just sitting on a valuable asset in Trouba, and will want a return. You are comically optimistic about this whole thing

That won't happen. The fans are totally on ownership and side with them on everything. They literally shout the name of the company that owns the Jets in unison before every game.

Correct me if I am wrong but wasn't it quoted that many/most GM's didn't even know that Hamilton was available when he was traded?

Every GM knows that Trouba is potentially available and that other teams are probably putting in offers.

Yes, Sweeney had to rush the Hamilton deal so he zeroed in on a few obvious targets. Hilariously, in the end, due to McDavid's injury, letting the Oilers OS Hamilton actually would have been the best move, but thats hindsight.

The Jets will have at least 3 rookies in the lineup this year, potentially a few more, plus a goalie who has never been a full-time starter in the NHL before. The rest of the roster aside from a few players is all very young. Most people realize it's a development year.

I wish the Leafs could work on a deal around:

ANA- JvR (@ 3MIL)
WIN- Fowler + Kapenen (or?)
TOR- Trouba

Feel that Jets fans would want more; but who knows - if this plays out for a while....the LH Fowler is a good option, along with a decent prospect from Toronto.

Kapanen = zero value to us. Kapanen goes out, Dermott goes in, and then we can talk.

Anaheim needs to shed salary big time here, JVR at $3 million is only $1 million less then what Fowler makes. Doubt that this saves BM enough to resign both Rakell and Lindholm. Now Spooner at $925,000 would be a better deal for Murray.

Were not "just sitting" a valuable asset, the valuable asset is choosing to sit out and refuses to even to discuss a contract.....huge difference. We have a very patient ownership group who looks at the big picture, not just the short one. Ownership will show zero weakness here, we can't otherwise we set a bad example for future rfa's playing the smallest market and a poor UFA draw. This team must be successful on drafting and retaining our RFA players. Our season tickets are sold out years advance, we have a long waiting list for people to even get season tickets (which they must each year to remain on). Ownership can afford to be patient, logical......b/c they don't have to play the short game, they don't have pander to fans to fill the seats. Our fans know all this, our fans are knowledgeable fans, Trouba is no fan favourite these days, no one is blaming ownership here. So I'm not being comically optimistic, I'm being logical, I'm following what ownership has said from day one, I'm being an informed knowledgeable fan of this team.

The Jets just waived the biggest single reason hurting them in the first five years (which give us extra wins). No one (or very few) here was picking the team to battle for a playoff spot this year with Trouba. There is no pressure on Chevy here, all he needs to do is the logical move. Media has already reported from multi GM's that from their discussions with Chevy they fully believe he's playing the long game here, the patient game b/c he's in total control. Options are:

- Someone meets his price.
- Trouba signs with Jets, to be traded later
- Chevy trades Trouba for BPA (forward) plus a good LHD prospect b/c Josh M has stolen the top 4 job and doing well. FYI Josh has been arguably our best D on the entire team in the preseason. IMO this is the most likely out come, trading Trouba for BPA (forward) & good LHD prospect, but he won't hurry until Josh has played more games in the regular season to be more sure about Josh.

This whole idea of Chevy giving away Trouba at a big discount b/c he has pressure on him to do so, is just pure fantasy from un-knowledgeable forum posters who have no true understanding of the team, situation and ownership strategy.

Not all of us but close. We do have a real good ownership if the would stick to the business side. Problem is Chipman acts as the Pres of Hockey Ops since there is no such position on the team. Out of the top 4 management guys none have a single NHL regular season game playing or coaching.
There needs to be a buffer. They should bring a guy like Don Maloney in as Pres Hockey Ops. They may want to develop their own guy but in the meantime they need to look outside.

Nope, very poor for the Jets. Easy pass

Yes I hear and read a different tone this year. It is the first year of lowered expectations. Losing has started to wear on us I guess.

Actually, I had the same expectations / hopes last season (youth movement and likely a step back in the standings). They dipped lower than I expected, but Laine!

Nobody thinks Trouba will be given away. His value will go down the longer this plays out, not up. RHD's are in high demand but once the season starts, nobody is going to gut their team to land Trouba on November 20th. Best deal for the Jets is to do something sooner rather than later.

I honestly believe that over the first 10 games or so, teams will be assessing what they have. Someone will find themselves wanting on D thus actually raising his value.
Long term, you may be right, but there is no sense in panicking for 10-15 games imo.

Have you seen some of the offers for Trouba? Offers closer to Postma value then Trouba. One of my fav ones was by a Habs fan who seriously offer DD & Emelin and was really annoyed when I declined. Two older cap dumps for Trouba....give your head a shake.

I'm pretty sure he mentioned to us not to long ago to us that he knows someone in the agency that represents Trouba. He does have a source with the Blues.

"Rangers gave us a substantial offer for [Jacob Trouba]."

I just don't see that being something they say on the agent's side. Front office, yes.

Besides, potential acquiring teams are already going to know what Trouba wants, anyway, so it's not going to be about contract value.

Lastly, I don't think someone types out both names in the text.

Fun, anyhow.
